We just returned to the United States after living abroad for 12+ years. We made a conscious decision to purchase an EV and the home we selected already had a Level 2 Charging receptacle wired in the garage, thus it was logical to purchase Level 2 charger. After going through numerous home charger reviews on the net we selected Grasside and are very happy that we did! The hookup was literally plug-and-play! Three screws to mount the charger; three screws to mount the cable and EV plug. The Grasside App lets you set up a charging schedule so you can take advantage of those "super non-peak" hours and you are good to go in the morning!

I just received the Grasside Level 2 wall-mounted home charger yesterday. It was easy to install worked flawlessly immediately. I also downloaded the Grasside app and found it intuitive. I also like the easy way to schedule charging hours so I can ensure I’m charging in the middle of the night when rates are their lowest (see the picture below of the app interface.) Notice that I only charge between 11:30 PM and 6:00 AM. My only caution is that if you own a Tesla, as I do, you will have to purchase a J1772 to Tesla adapter. It fits on the end of the charging wand (see picture.) The one I purchased cost about $30. The J1772 connection is a standard used by many other EV manufacturers. It is handy to have the adapter for Tesla available in case you need to use someone else’s charger not designed for Tesla.

I grabbed this 48-Amp Level 2 EV charger to install at home as a charger for visiting guests. Inspecting the charger and its construction, everything feels heavy-duty and very well-built. The unit has an IP65 waterproof rating that will allow me to use it throughout the year in all weather conditions. The overall size of the control box is compact and doesn't take up a lot of wall space, and the charging handle mount is very convenient. Inspecting the wire connections and the seams around the control unit, I noticed everything is sealed tight with no visible points of entry for water. This unit is hardwired and should be installed by a licensed professional electrician for safety. The included 25-foot charging cable feels thick & sturdy, while still remaining flexible enough to easily maneuver around to your vehicle or garage. The LED screen is bright and easy to read at a glance from all angles. Connecting the unit to my 2.4GHz wireless band was very easy and without any issues or loss of network. Accessing the charger from the smart app makes it convenient to monitor charging and manage settings from my smart devices. While the RFID feature is a nice added layer of control, the standout feature for me was the smart app control.

This is a really nice Level 2 charger, and I especially like that it gives you several ways to control how and when you charge instead of forcing you to use an app for everything. You can simply plug in and charge, use the button on the unit, control it through the app, or even use the RFID cards if you want to prevent someone else from using it. At 40 amps, it can provide up to 9.6kW on a 240V circuit, which is plenty for home charging. I also like that the current is adjustable. You can select 16, 24, 32, or 40 amps directly from the charger, with even finer 10-40A adjustment available through the app. That's useful if you don't always want or need to charge at maximum power. The construction is impressive. The metal enclosure feels much more substantial than some of the plastic EV chargers I've seen, and the 25-foot cable gives you plenty of freedom when deciding where to mount it in the garage. The IP65 rating also makes outdoor installation an option. Installation is relatively simple since this version uses a NEMA 14-50 plug rather than requiring the charger itself to be hardwired. Of course, a 40A continuous EV load requires the proper 50A circuit and a correctly installed, EV-rated 14-50 receptacle. This is one place where I wouldn't cheap out on the outlet or electrical installation. The smart features are actually useful too. Scheduling charging for off-peak hours can potentially save money depending on your electric company's rate plan, and being able to see charging status and history from the app is convenient. My only minor complaint is that the Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz only, although that's still pretty common with smart devices. Pros: 40A/9.6kW charging capability, adjustable charging current, 25-foot UL-listed cable, substantial metal enclosure, plug-and-charge option, app and RFID control, scheduled charging, NEMA 14-50 plug, IP65 rating, ETL listed to UL 2594. Cons: Wi-Fi only supports 2.4GHz, and you'll need a properly installed 50A circuit and quality NEMA 14-50 receptacle to take advantage of the full 40A output. Overall: This is a very complete home EV charging setup. It's powerful without being unnecessarily complicated, and I appreciate that the smart features are optional rather than required just to charge the car. Between the 40A output, long cable, metal construction, adjustable current, and multiple control options, I'm very happy with it.

I have used this charger for multiple charging sessions and tested it under different conditions rather than judging it only by the advertised 48A rating. The 25-foot cable gives me enough reach to position the vehicle in different places relative to the charger, which is particularly useful when the parking position is not directly beside the wall-mounted unit. The tradeoff is that a cable this long takes more space to manage when I am finished charging. During charging, I paid attention to the charging rate shown by the vehicle and how consistently the charger maintained the expected output. The advertised 11.5 kW maximum is useful as a reference, but the actual rate depends on the vehicle’s onboard charger and the available electrical supply, so I would not expect every vehicle to draw the full amount. The smart app has been useful for checking charging status and managing scheduled charging. I specifically tested whether commands and status updates were reflected promptly rather than assuming that app connectivity automatically means reliable remote control. The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi requirement is also worth noting because it can matter when deciding where the charger can be installed. I tested the RFID function as well as the physical button controls. Having multiple control methods is convenient because I do not have to depend on the app for every interaction. The RFID option is particularly useful if I want an additional method of controlling who can start a charging session.
