  • Great machine - here is how to make it work!
Color: Black Oak
Wow. This is a great little machine - I have run through all options from internet radio, FM radio, bluetooth and CD and they are all super. It is very, very hard to find a device that will do all these things, at a reasonable price. This machine does it and the sound is amazing. However... As many have said, the manual and set up can be a nightmare. I am moderately tech savy and am replacing a Grace internet radio. Having read the numerous reviews here talking about the bad instructions, I went to their website and read the on-line pdf version first and read the manual that came with my machine cover to cover before I even turned it on. After a number of hours and research (some good clues here in reviews on Amazon), I have it all working. Here are some comments and hint about how to get around problems. Manual - awful, confusing (I underlined sections) and the labels of the controls on top in the picture in the manual are microscopic. I used a magnifying glass to enlarge and then wrote notes on the manual! Controls on top - awful -- silver on silver with tiny tiny letters - you might have to keep a cheat sheet next to the machine if you don't use the app or remote Remote-no clues as to various functions. Like can you use it to turn the machine off(?).well if you know what STB means and you are used to having an on-off button on upper left side you might find it (I found another user here revealed it.) Signing onto Frontier for the internet radio connections. Presently, they do not allow you to register and set up an account - you have to sign in thru Facebook or Google. Maybe that will change someday, but right now, unless you are willing to access thru them (hate them both) you won't be able to use the internet radio connections required. Undok app -- it is fabulous. Not all controls are on it but those that are great. Be careful to download the correct app. There are two on apple store named Undok and both control internet radios - the purple one with Frontier as a subtitle is the one you want. Presets- I give this a separate topic because trying to preset either FM stations or internet radio was a pain using the control top or remote -- it would randomly respond but the same hard press, soft press, quick press, slow press, did not always work. However, the app assigned presets very easily! I wish I had known that before I wasted time trying to press the control top and remote. Dimmer - it has a dimmer but the difference between high, low and medium is very small (I can't really tell much difference. Some people have asked about it on the questions and answers. I think it would be a problem in a bedroom although I did notice that by using the analog rather than digital clock, the brightness was diminished so it could be used in a bedroom that way. Internet connection - mine worked flawlessly - it found and connected to my wifi without a hitch. General support - the website has been down for a few days and I found very little information there when it was up about troubleshooting etc. The questions and answers here seem to be answered by LeMega representatives quickly so that seems to be the main place for support. I noticed that it appears to only be sold through Amazon in the US so can't find any other forums for user advice on various issues. I hope this is helpful and speeds up set up for people. Don't shy away from this machine out of fear. It is worth it. ... show more

  • This Unit Sounds Pretty Good But Does Have Some Shortcomings
Color: Black Oak
While looking at and comparing the many internet radio units that Amazon offers, I was torn between the Grace Digital Mondo Alto and this Le Mega M5P, so I ordered both. Up front I have to say that I would still have the Grace Audio if the FM tuner had been able to tune in my local NPR station: I have listened to "Echoes" most evenings for years and just can't do without it, so the Grace was returned. All Grace had to do was supply a connection for an external FM antenna and it would still be on my night stand. I loved the clock/date display the most: blue with light blue letters, the day and the date as well as the time. It really needed tweeters to give some high end, but loved the stereo separation of separate speakers. Okay, that said, I kept the M5P. With the separate left and right speakers with a 5.25" "sub" down-firing (albeit in one enclosure), it just sounds good. The EQ is a nice touch to help make it sound the way you want it to. Unfortunately, the only EQ that you can adjust yourself is only 2-band, bass and treble...midrange would be indispensable since small speakers like these are most efficient in the midrange band, and it would have been great to taper that down some, but... When I connect my Astell&Kern music player through bluetooth it sounds really good. It has a full color display but the date/time display is black and white...also very strange. I really didn't need a CD player and haven't tried it because we live in a digital age, and all my music is online through Tidal, on a micro SD in the A&K, on a flash drive or internet radio. There's a big telescoping AM/FM antenna on the back but I don't even need to extend it because it works well as is. The unit itself is a wooden enclosure, heavy and tough, which helps make the speakers sound very good and produces nice resonance. The overall software and function are a tad on the clunky side, but works. I would recommend that the next software update (hopefully there will be some in the future) make the transitioning from one function to another a little smoother, and that you consider making the clock/date display a color background, blue if you're taking suggestions. Also change the format of the date from european format to a US format and add the name of the day. Please? I know this is nitpicking but this unit wasn't cheap and hopefully I will be living with it for a long time. My last gripe is the button cluster on the top: being older, if I need to change a function, I need to turn on my reading light and put my glasses on to find the tiny button in the circle of tiny buttons...I do not like that at all. I guess it looks cool but really isn't that functional. So sorry for the long diatribe, but if you're a shopper and spec-comparer like I am, hopefully there's some useful info in here. This unit has a substantial price for what it is, but if you are an audiophile and enjoy good sound, which is the reason for having a unit that plays music as far as I'm concerned, this is probably the best sounding offering of the vast offering of internet radios on Amazon. ... show more
