So Good.

I'm reviewing the 4.5 quart Le Creuset round dutch oven. I have a bunch of Staubs and love them. Also great cast iron, De Buyer carbon steel, stainless steel, and unglazed clay pots. They all work well but for different things. What I'm struck by with this Le Creuset (which means the crucible) is how the enamel works. It's quite different than the Staub enamel. Both are glass on iron and both leave a very clean and direct taste. But the Le Creuset browns quite strongly. It's stickier. And maybe because the casting is so thin, the cooking goes quickly. I have another Le Creuset that's 20 years older, and I can see that they've advanced both their enamel and their casting. These things are hugely expensive, but I really like how this one works, especially with acidic foods (e.g., tomatoes, vinegar). It imparts a lovely taste signature that stainless steel can't, and has great--perhaps perfect--proportions for a dutch oven. Plus, for enamel, Le Creuset (and Staub) are the most chip resistant ones available. I've put my old one through so many torture scenarios and it's still like new.

Le Creuset pots last forever!

I've had a Le Creuset 3.5 quart dutch oven since 1978 when my new husband bought me one with a 1 quart sauce pan for his new bride to cook dinner with. He spent over $400 at the time in a fancy department store because it was what I wanted and the man was not a fool! Today I'm still using that same 3.5 dutch oven at least once a week but decided how much I'd love a bigger one for lots of French onion soup and other large batches of whatever. When I saw this one at such a SUPER LOW price, I snagged it! The dutch oven I received is perfect--no chips, no marks, smooth perfect ceramic coating. And yes, it's freaking orange-red! Red hot chili peppers! But boy howdy, can it cook awesomely with even temps and on every surface imaginable. LOVE IT. It will out live me--these are made to last a lifetime and my young bride ones are 44 years old and still serve me like yesterday. Do not waste money on cheap sh*t, people, buy the good stuff. Le Creuset products are like diamonds...invest all you can and enjoy them because they last forever.

You really can’t go wrong when you buy Le Creuset. I really love this pan, I had to replace the one I’ve had for about 20 years because I dropped it on a hard surface and cracked the cast-iron. I looked everywhere to find out if I could get it repaired, but it wasn’t looking good so I went ahead and replaced my pot. Color is beautiful, and the inside finish on this newer pot is actually much easier to clean.

I got a great price on the 7.25-quart enameled cast iron Dutch oven. Apparently there are fakes out there, so I did some online research. From what I can tell, mine is a real Le Creuset. It may or may not be a factory second (some of the ones on Amazon are also said to be factory seconds), but if it is I can't tell. I got it for $135 less than the same item on the Le Creuset website. These Dutch ovens are so easy to clean and versatile. I can see this becoming a staple in my kitchen. It heats up evenly and wipes clean after a quick soak. I invested in a set of Le Creuset items since purchasing this, and I hope to never have to buy a set of pots again.

Seller not telling the truth

This 5.5 qt Le Creuset was at a reduced price because, supposedly, the box was damaged. Actually, the box looked fine to me and the pot arrived in good shape but it was not the color advertised - both in writing and as pictured. I've been wanting this pot for quite some time. The price was good but since it's not the color advertised and the color I wanted, I have to wonder if anyone tells the truth anymore. That's disappointing. I'm going to keep it because of the price and the otherwise hassle of returning it. Maybe that's what the seller was hoping for. He/she got her wish; I didn't. Really need to be careful about 3rd party sellers on Amazon.
