I had some reservations about ordering an automobile scanner at this price, but its bidirectional feature and multiple vehicle compatibility convinced me to take a chance. This is not one of those $59.99 scanners that you see advertised on television and the internet. While I think they may be okay for their limited purpose, this is far more sophisticated and handy for the seven vehicles in my family. When the product arrived, it came with top notch packaging and its own case hard plastic case, which looks like a small brief case. It included all of the connecting cables and all of the electrical outlet connectors for world use. I especially like the auto scan feature which gives an overall and thorough diagnostic of the vehicle. I am sending some pictures of the packaging and of a scan of a BMW. As you can see, it examines many aspects of the vehicle and reports abnormal scan codes. You can even clear codes if you choose to do so. I found the user interface to be very easy to view and not real complicated. I also liked that the included instructions, though not lengthy, had me up and running in no time. Given all of the features, some of which are way too complicated for this amateur mechanic but perfect for a home shop, I think this is an outstanding purchase for the price point. I am sure there are other scanners on the market that are way more expensive, but for the price point of this one, you sure get a lot packed in it for a very reasonable price point. This is not a cheaply made piece of junk. It probably doesn't have enough features for a full time, multi-bay shop, but it is absolutely perfect for my needs. It's a homerun! ... show more

I’ve only owned the LAUNCH X431 CRP919E for about a week, but it’s already earned a permanent spot on my bench. For context, I was previously running an Autel MaxiAP200 for basic scans and an OBDLink Bluetooth adapter paired with DashCommand for live data. Both are fine for what they are, but they each only did a slice of what I needed, and neither could touch the more involved service work on my car. The CRP919E does all of it in one unit, and after a week of putting it through its paces I can say it’s a serious step up. My main test subject has been my Mercedes CLE which is exactly the kind of car that exposes the limits of cheaper tools. Mercedes modules are notoriously deep, and generic scanners tend to give you a shallow, incomplete picture. This thing goes where the others couldn’t. The basics are fast and painless. Reading and clearing trouble codes, live data streaming, freeze frame data, and I/M readiness checks are all right there the moment you power it on. The interface is well thought out so you’re not tunneling through five layers of menus to pull a simple code. Live data refreshes quickly and you can graph parameters, which honestly does everything my OBDLink + DashCommand setup did, except without juggling a phone, an adapter, and an app that occasionally drops its Bluetooth connection mid-session. Having it all native on one dedicated device is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade. Where it really pulls ahead is the advanced stuff, none of which my MaxiAP200 could do: • Service interval resets — After maintenance I can clear the service reminder myself so it actually goes away, instead of living with it or paying someone to reset it. • Brake service — This one nearly justified the purchase on its own. On the CLS, dealing with the electronic parking brake used to be a real obstacle for any rear brake work. Retracting the caliper through the scanner was a simple, guided process — put it in service mode, do the job, close it back up. No workarounds, no risk to the actuator. • HVAC diagnostics — I was able to pull climate-system-specific data through the CLS’s modules, the kind of readout a generic scanner just doesn’t surface. Being able to see what the HVAC system is actually reporting takes the guesswork out. • Battery programming and registration — This is a big one on a Mercedes. These cars need the new battery registered so the charging strategy is correct, and skipping it shortens battery life. That used to mean a dealer trip. Now I handle it right in my own garage in a couple of minutes. Bi-directional controls and active tests are the real hidden value. Being able to actively command components and run tests instead of just passively reading codes like my old setup is what makes this feel like a professional-grade tool rather than a code reader with extra steps. On a German car especially, that’s the difference between guessing and actually confirming. On the hardware side, the build quality is solid, the touchscreen is responsive and bright enough to read in the garage, and the Wi-Fi updates keep the software current. Overall Impression I’ve used several OBD2 scanners over the years, but the Launch 919e is in a completely different league. It feels premium, runs incredibly fast on the Android 10 platform, and provides deep-level access that I used to think was only possible at the dealership. For the price of a couple of diagnostic hours at a shop, you get a tool that pays for itself almost immediately. Volvo & Polestar Compatibility As an owner of both Volvo and Polestar vehicles, finding a scanner that actually talks to all the modules is usually a nightmare. This tool is a total game-changer for the Swedish car enthusiast. VIDA Alternative: If you’ve ever looked into the cost of a Volvo VIDA subscription or the specialized hardware required for it, you know it can run into the thousands. The 919e handles the specialized DoIP protocols these cars use flawlessly. Full Module Access: It doesn't just read engine codes; it gets into the "nitty-gritty" of the Infotainment, Climate Control, and Battery Management systems. Extremely satisfied with this scanner. Launch brand came recommended to me by a friend that is a mechanic and it does not disappoint. You can view PIDs like most scanners but the graphing function has been a huge benefit. It is bi-directional so you can actuate functions on the vehicle - I have found this to be extremely useful in troubleshooting. One aspect I recently found was the ability to generate vehicle health reports and create a QR code/link to send to someone. The price is well in-line with what is offered. I would not hesitate to buy. Setup was easy and the user interface is easy to navigate. It comes with a create carrying case and everything feels high quality. I am an amateur and work on vehicles as a hobby, but can see this being effective in professional settings as well. Great and easy to use. Bi directional functionality is what I needed and this scanner delivered. Recently upgraded from an older Matco model and this one is leaps and bounds ahead of my previous scanner. Definitely worth the price it comes in handy. X431 Scanner it was a excellent choice. You can scan your vehicle and get the codes and also will look up codes on internet for the problems you are trying to fix. Also has a diagnostic you can use to go into the system you are working on and it will start the system and turn it off to diagnose it. I can also send me or customer a report on codes and problems the vehicle needed to be fixed. Im pleased with the scanner on what it can do for the money.     • A solid upgrade for a diverse fleet

For several years, my go-to diagnostic tool was the LAUNCH Creader Elite For BMW OBD2 Scanner. IIt was perfect for what I needed at the time—mainly, a check engine light on my 2004 BMW. After successfully working on the BMW, I started to feel more confident tackling issues with our other cars—a Ford, a Mazda, and a VW. I started to feel the limitations of the Creader Elite. Reading engine codes was fine, but I needed to get deeper into the vehicles' systems. That's why I upgraded to the LAUNCH X431 CRP919E OBD2 Scanner. The jump in price was significant, but so was the jump in capability. The X431 CRP919E is a game-changer. It's not just a code reader; it's a full-system scanner. Now I can access everything from the ABS and SRS (airbag) to the transmission and TPMS modules. The biggest selling point for me was the bi-directional control, which lets me perform active tests on components. I can now command things like the fuel pump or cooling fan to turn on directly from the tool, which makes pinpointing problems so much easier. The special functions are also a huge plus, allowing me to perform oil resets, electronic parking brake resets, and other maintenance tasks that previously would have required a trip to the shop. It's truly a comprehensive tool for all our cars. My concers are Of course, the upgrade isn't without its downsides. The most obvious one is the price—the Creader Elite was a simple and affordable solution. The new scanner is a serious investment. One concern is the update policy: my original scanner came with lifetime updates (only for BMW), while the X431 CRP919E only includes two years. After that, I may have to pay a subscription to keep it up-to-date. Overall, the upgrade was worth it. While my original scanner was perfect for my first successful repair, the LAUNCH X431 CRP919E is an essential tool for a home mechanic with a diverse fleet. It provides the depth and functionality needed to tackle a wider range of problems, turning guesswork into confident diagnoses.     • Great Tool - Overseas Support is a Challenge

This tool functions well and is fairly easy to use. What wasn’t clear to me is this tool is not supported by Launch-US. I bought this tool to be able to work on my Jeep JK. When I first started using the tool, I had cam/crank relearn and cam phaser cleaning functions. For some reason these functions recently disappeared. I reached out to Launch US customer service and was informed this model is an overseas model and not supported by Launch US. I was told to reach out to Launch’s overseas customer service. I used the contact seller feature through Amazon After hearing from the overseas support, I was told I need to purchase the full program for my model vehicle. No answer yet on why I had the function when I set up the tool and then they just went away. From what I understood, the product came with the current functions available at this time for my vehicle but future updates would be at an additional cost after a year. While the unit is well made, functions well, provides good diagnostic data, the overseas support is a concern. The quality is very good and the tool is very durable. Overall I like the quality and data the tool provides is very useful. Hopefully I can get the missing functions restored without paying extra. If you are in the US, I would recommend purchasing a unit supported by Launch US. This Launch tool is a great product and reasonably priced. The support is the main concern. If it wasn’t for the support issue, I probably would have given this tool 5 stars. ... show more

I have been using Launch products for a decade. Their software is excellent - comprehensive, logical and easy to navigate. I purchased this model as a smaller more compact unit that my larger Launch. This compact unit is fully featured, with extensive capabilities and bi-directional controls for diagnostics of items such as fuel systems. Normally I use my Launch tools on European cars, but with this unit I thought I'd try it out on a Japanese car. With a 2012 Nissan Frontier in the shop, we were quickly able to determine the issues that needed to be addressed. The Launch connected to the engine management system quickly and read the VIN in about 5 seconds. The System Health report checked all subsystems which took about 30 seconds. We had several issues reported. One with steering angle which was quickly fixed by full left to right steering rotation to set the angle sensor. The EVAP system reported a P0448 - common with this Nissan. A replacement EVAP valve was ordered. The health report is well organized and easy to read. I really like how compact this diagnostic tool is, while being fully featured. It is robust, in a hardened case, light and easy to handle. The CPU is quite speedy - don't let the small size fool you, it's quite powerful and I never saw a lag from boot to shutdown. This diagnostic tool is serious bang for the buck - Launch is one of a couple top tier diagnostic tool companies. In a fully ruggedized Android tablet configuration, and with 2 years of free software update, I just don't know where one could do any better. And this is why Launch diagnostic tools have been my go to for a decade. This X431 continues in the tradition of my other diagnostic tools. ... show more
