works well tells you if your key fob works by pressing any button on the fob an whatever frequency your fob is shows by flashing on of the LED lights. it also let's you know if the sensor in your door handle works when you hit the lock button on it flashing the same way showing the same frequency range. if you replacing a key fob an want to know if the fob works this is it but if it gives of a signal or the frequency matches that of your car. if your trunk have a sensor an button you too can press the button on the trunk with this tester near the bumper to see if the sensor is good. for other key fob sensors in the car you'll need a scan tool to help them ping off a signal to find thier location but scanners will let you know rite off the bat what sensor is dead if there is a problem. but bottom line this tester comes in handy to know your car RF an get the right Fod that works when ordering them. best to open the fob an see if the motherboard on your fob looks exactly like the fob your looking at online before ordering.. almost all cars bought in America have the same frequency but so picking up a fob from ebay or Amazon would be a brezz. unlike cars like what i have that was imported from japane thats a RHD 2006 Nissan Fuga 450gt that is identical to the 06 Infiniti M45 although the fob look the same on the outside they don't work because different frequency an different motherboard. so yeah "IR" to test any tv, air-conditioning, home audio or car audio with a infrared remote point at it press any button an LED will flesh if that remote works an can try any other button to know if all bottons work on remote. very handy tool indeed

Ordered a previous RF tester on Amazon and it was a dud. This one is way better. Highly recommended. Tested the IR scanner with my TV remote and it only detected the power button press, not any of the other buttons. Strange thing is that the first couple tries would actually turn off the signal tester but after that it would work. Tried the immobilizer scan function but never got it to work. Not sure how to do it and the instructions don't explain it at all. Just a picture showing a key in a lock saying "IMMO Signal test." Anyway, it does what I need it to do and that's to test my car key fob remotes and that works great!

This unit I bought as I deal with a lit of suspect key fobs, and this was a very cheap way to tell you. Wish it had a signal meter, but then $39, vs a $700 tPMS tool I was using, I definitely can't complain. Picked up the fobs at 900,434, and 315 with no issues. The fob has to be roughly a foot away however at max, anymore and won't pick it up. Picked up a friend's ham radio also lol (asked him to see if it would and he transmitted a few feet away) One surprise was IR for tv remotes and it will also pickup the pulse ring for anti- theft keys (on keyed vehicles, there is a ring that sends out a charge to "ping" the key and many times I've had to guess if it was bad, but tried on a Ford and picked up the loop ! Only real con I have is on time. Most test tools stay on 5 minutes before timing out, this one shuts down after about 2 even if you are using it. Flipping it back on, it works, but I rather a longer use time. So if you work or around vehicle or home key fob systems, very cheap price for a good tool.

The five star reviews are right. This frequency tester will save you so much time - don't pull soldered key batteries out of fobs assuming the battery is dead before using this tester. I would have saved myself $10 on a 2032 soldered battery as well as the time of removal and install if I had just used this tester first. The lesson is that especially when there's Dead main 12 volt batteries on German cars, remote functionality on some of these fobs can be forgotten and you have to reprogram it. This tool saves you the time of trying in vain to program a fob with a dead battery, and replacing batteries on fobs with Good batteries that just need programming. This launch remote frequency tester is a solid investment, and you can use it for other signal devices as well like garage door openers and such. Time is money. save both with this.

Costs more than some but only requires proximity to the transmitter-- it does not have to be in full contact with the tester, which appears to be a requirement with the lowest-cost testers. Mine works great and I'm glad I finally got one. Key tags that I was about to toss apparently just need to be reprogrammed, great to know since mine are discontinued items that are hard to source. Worth noting that the webpage has a seller warning, but my shipping was fast and on target, and the item appears to be of good enough quality to last and was well-packed.

Based on the description, I thought this would help me locate my key fob. My car started, so I knew the fob was inside somewhere, but this thing didn’t help at all. I eventually found the key on my own, and even when I held it right up to the device, it still didn’t beep.
