I have a rust bucket of a car that's around 20 years old. Every year something is wrong and I'm at the dealership paying $$ to get it replaced. My check engine light went on a couple months ago and everything seemed fine. I decided to send some money to get this canner and it was well worth the investment. It gave me the code and then I was able to look it up online to see if it was serious or not. Definitely worth it and I can use it on another car if need be.

I had a check engine light glowing and inspection time is this month. My mechanic wanted to charge me $120 to see what the error code was! I bought this code reader and used it this morning. It told me what the error code was and how to reset it. No check engine light any more. This scanner is easy to use. I would recommend it any time you have a check engine light. That way you know what the issue is, so maybe you can do the repair yourself, or at least know what the issue is before a mechanic perhaps tells you an expensive (false) story.

The device works, but the screen doesn't light up so I had to use a flashlight to read it. Apparently the one I got was defective, so will return and get something else. Edit: I tried it again and this time the screen lit up. It lights up about 80% of the time. When it doesn't I have to unplug it and plug it in again to get it to work. I'm updating the rating to be fair, but I wouldn't buy this again.

So far, I like everything about this code reader. The price was right. The screen is bright easy to see. The controls worked exactly as they should to navigate through menus. It connected promptly with my car and erased my misfire error code that had been cropping up as a result of a bad coil pack. Have only used on one vehicle at this point, but since I help a lot of people work on cars, I'm sure I'll be testing it on more automobiles soon.
