There are ton of products these days for OBD diagnostics. As far as value for cheap, there are OBD Bluetooth modules that can connect to your phone and utilize diagnostic apps. But, those things depend on a reliable Bluetooth connection that I have occasionally found problematic on the cheap adapters, and once you have a code like "P0301", it does no good without an Internet connection to look it up. This device plugs straight in to the OBD port. It has no batteries that can die, as it is powered by the vehicle. You simply install the cable into the diagnostic port and it turns on. Make sure to turn the ignition on. It will power on even with the vehicle off, but it will give a read error if the ignition isn't on. No worries, because it will prompt you on that even if you forget. The screen is bright and easily read in the day. It quickly acquired the OBD standard and connected. It's a simple device that functions well for reading OBD data and problem codes. It has some simple data stream functions to see what is happening over time, so you can drive a little and then see what occurred. Don't expect complex scanner function like airbag, anticlockwise breaks, or module programming. That stuff costs way more, and fees per brand of vehicle are needed. So why this over a Bluetooth module. Well, we put it in a camper. That camper drives far from home, it goes into places with no cell signal, and it would be very expensive to tow. This scanner gives me piece of mind that I connect no matter what wherever I am. Without cell signal, it can provide general diagnostic ideas without having to search the internet. That might be the difference between getting it back home for a $6 spark plug instead of a $1000 tow and ruined vacation. Looks professional. Well built housing and buttons. Robust cable. Easy installation. Seamless connectivity. Fair value for money. I like it.

Might as well buy a $300 scanner. Not equipped with much software to do anything. Need a license to use key mobilzer. Not compatible with U.S launch bc made in China. Not worth over $400. Don't waste your money on Launch.

This is a great scan tool that can scan, read and erase diagnostic trouble codes. The cord is a great length as well so you can plug it in and sit comfortable while looking up the codes and not worrying about tugging on the cord. It is well built and also very compact at the same time. It also has a built in DTC code look up so you can look up the codes that pop up or the codes if given. Its very easy to use and user friendly. I also like the 2.8 color display which make it easy to see all the features and use the device. You can also pull up the vehicle information such as the Vin and milage. You can also check if your vehicle is im ready to pass emission test. Works with a wide range of vehicles from 1996 to newer. You also get life time free updates so you can have the latest updates to diagnose your car. It also have live data stream to check air intake, throttle position, fuel, o2 senso etc. This has alot of features and it a great portable, handheld, small obd2 scan tool.

Neither my husband nor I are mechanics, but we are certainly glad to have this LAUNCH device. After unpacking it and reading the instructions, we found it easy to use on each of our 3 vehicles. All of them came out with no issues, and we didn’t expect to find any. In scanning the 1998 Ford F-250 truck, there were some items that said the vehicle did not support. There was one unsupported item on the 2010 truck, and none on the 2 year old car. So, the newer your vehicle, the more information this device will provide. We look forward to using this device to routinely give our vehicles regular check-ups. The information we get will do a couple things for us: give us peace of mind; and when something is wrong, help us decide if we can fix it ourselves or need to take it to a mechanic.

I had high hopes for this Launch CR (Code Reader) 529, given that Launch has very capable tools in the OBD Diagnostics market. The Quick Start Guide has a description of the device, buttons, and their functions. It also has the instructions on how to download the update program from the Launch website. You will need to register the tool before you can download the updates. The Guide also has general instructions on how to connect the tool to the car and get the tool ready for diagnostics. I consider myself an advanced OBD Diagnostician, having tools such as Autel's MK908P, and a few others. I thought that the information in the quick start guide of the CR529 left me hanging. On the plus side: -Free lifetime updates. -DTC Database -Well built - DTC, Freeze Frame and Data Stream recording, printing and playback - I/M mode to check the inspection monitors status On the minus side: -The download website on the Quick Start Guide does not work. I get a 403 Forbidden Message. www.x431.com/download does work. -Short OBD cable, not long enough to use comfortably on the passenger seat while on a test drive -The tool is sluggish. I have OBD bluetooth dongles that work with an app on a smart phone, which are much faster -When selecting a single parameter data stream graph, the way to go to the graph screen is by pressing the back button. If you choose two parameters, the display will show the graph as soon as you choose the second parameter -To scroll down on the help pages, you have to use the right arrow button, why not the down or up buttons? I find that for the price, there are better options available.

Launch makes great tools and this is no exception. It is straight forward to use and has a lot of info for this style of scanner. If you’re a diyer this would be a great option to get. Read and clear codes and see data.
