Makita engineered the 7-1/4” Circular Saw (model 5007F) with pro framers in mind, combining power and performance with ease-of-use features, superior balance, and job site durability. The 5007F is ideal for a range of framing and cutting applications. The 5007F has a powerful 15. 0 AMP motor and a high power-to-weight ratio, with all ball bearing construction and a heavy gauge aluminum wraparound base engineered for improved durability and straighter cuts. The 5007F has a large cutting capacity (2-3/8” at 90°, 1-3/4” at 45°) with a maximum bevel capacity of 0°-45° for the most common angles. Makita engineered ease-of-use features into the saw with large and easy-to- read markings on the depth and bevel scales. Blade changes are more convenient with a flat motor housing design for increased stability when changing blades, with a conveniently located shaft lock for easy blade replacement. Visibility is improved with two built-in LED lights and a built-in dust blower engineered to clear the line of cut. The 5007F is engineered for framing walls, siding, roofs and floors using a range of dimensional lumber and engineered lumber including OSB, LVL, PSL, plywood, and more. Truly a pro saw. I had this exact saw I purchased nearly 40 years ago and it finally needed to be replaced after it went under saltwater in the Hurricane Helene flood. Even then, it still ran and cut but the bearings were finally on their way out. I'm hoping this new saw -- identical -- will last me for the next 40 years! LOL ... show more

I've got a three circular saws: a worm-drive, this one, and an old Milwaukee I bought forty years ago. I use them a lot. I was using my Makita this morning (A bobcat killed half my chickens, so they're getting a covered pen), and it occurred to me I ought to write a review, because this is the saw I usually grab. I can't say exactly why. It just seems light, nimble, easy to use. It's got a good sight line, it cuts very smoothly, and for whatever reason its just easier to cut accurately right along your mark with this saw. I think somebody must have spent spent a lot of time getting the ergonomics just right. I bought mine eight years ago: it runs good as new. I feel a little guilty abandoning my old Milwaukee, which is indestructible, but a clunky and unwieldy beast. ... show more

    • Great saw, sturdy - smooth- solid. However- heavier model so caution if you are a professional framer doing a lot of quick work.
This is great, professional grade (and I used to be professional anyway, I use this one a lot but more for personal building). One thing to note all you framers out there: You CAN'T use your speed square as a guide for quick cuts (real woodworkers now know I am a hack, but if you're framing you know what I mean). The engine will knock the speed square. This means you have to do things the right way. HOWEVER, this thing is so stable, you quickly grow into it. I ripped a bunch of sheets with this and they were the straightest I ever cut (my table saw just sits there sad and alone). If you plan on quick framing or climbing around with it, however, I'd go for a different saw (maybe I'm just lower skilled or getting old, but I like a lighter saw when framing out lots of walls in a short time, et cetera). As it is, this one is perfect for on the ground work, your shop, et cetera. Heavy duty and solid, makes great cuts and rips sheets beautifully. Used a metal blade to cut some steel siding too, and it held up to that kind of work wonderfully. ... show more

    • Very Scary but the instruction book won't help you!
I am a complete novice to woodworking. I got this circular saw because I need to cut 2X4s, plywood and other wood for small projects and its much less expensive than a table saw (what I really wanted). I pored over the instruction booklet that came with the saw. It was mystifying to say the least... My basic questions, which were not answered by the little instruction booklet, were: How do you cut wood safely with this saw? How do you turn it on? How do you avoid dismembering your body parts? Well, the book isn't all that helpful....I ended up watching a lot of You Tube videos to see how to use the circular saw in a safe manner--I mean I would not touch the saw until I'd watched about a dozen safety videos. And I think you should too!!! Some of the finer points to consider: Circular saws can kick back at you. That means they can go berserk, jumping out of the groove and embedding themselves in your abdomen!! Seriously, I saw the photos on Google!! Eeewww. So don't stand directly behind the saw! uhm.. what else..oh circular saws can kick back because you didn't support the boards on both sides. Therefore the boards fall together when you are cutting and the saw blade gets caught in the groove--that is called "binding". Saw kicks back and embeds itself in your abdomen, or femoral artery (another huge bleeder!!!). Anyway, I haven't yet cut off my leg or ascending aorta but my heart rate increases by 20 bpm everytime I use the saw. Update: 4 months later I still have all body parts. That's because I always wear gloves, goggles and maintain laser focus while using the saw. No spacing out when playing with circular saws! I'll rate the saw. It cuts wood very well from 2 X 4s to plywood. However, adjusting the blade depth is a real pain in the neck because it doesn't move smoothly. It is a bit heavy, which makes it awkward to use--should have got the table saw. Updated: May 22, 2016. oh thank goodness I am still alive. Upgrading my review to 4 stars from 3 stars. I think the saw itself is a lovely, functional device, despite it's heaviness--which won't bother you if you are really a manly man. (I am not, I am a woman). The saw itself does what it's supposed to do. It easily cuts a piece of wood. Isn't that what we are all looking for in life? I am thinking now that my prior 3 star review was really a critique of the instruction manual (bad job of writing it, sorry Makita..) For God's sake if you are going to sell such a dangerous piece of equipment, why not SPLURGE and hire someone to write a better instruction booklet. You might even go to your final glory having saved a few lives and limbs. ... show more
