This may be premature but this is the nicest hard drive that I have ever owned. I was going to purchase a less expensive drive that would give me more storage (like the 12 tb) but I am glad that I didn't. First of all, I read some of the reviews that spoke negatively on the cord that comes with it. I was fortunate enough to have a slot on my laptop for it. I LOVE the cord. Not only does it free up an extra usb port but most importantly it may be one of reasons I was able to transfer 260gbs in an hour. I'm not always up on the latest so to me, that's lightning. Did I forget to mention that while it was transferring those 260gb, I didn't hear a sound. With those qualities you would think that this drive needs to be plugged into a wall.....Nope. Lastly, I actually like the orange casing. This hard drive is handling heavy workloads with ease. The orange vest seems appropriate. 5 stars all the way. Stop searching.     • Not working after 2 weeks of use.

I purchased this to have in my stash as a photographer and when I went to use it, it is not working. It’s not durable. The cord doesn’t stay in the hard drive and keeps disconnecting. Very frustrating as a creative who has to store photos and do post production.

This drive works just fine, and while it’s not indestructible, I have dropped it a couple of times and it’s doing alright. It’s obviously more fragile than a SSD, though. Fast reading and writing. I bought it because I used to work in a tech company and this is the drive our IT department used. I read the reviews here before I purchased it, so I knew ahead of time that the cable could come loose. I move it around a lot, and as long as I’m careful and sure to plug the cable into the drive securely, I don’t have any trouble with it. Is it a hassle? It can be. A deal breaker? Not for me, not if you’re careful when moving it around, but it just depends on the person. Something to consider, sure. ... show more

I bought this when my other brand backup failed. I was shocked the other brand failed after only a bit over a year of using it. I got this Lacie in a state of modified panic. My MacBook Air was fine, but one never knows. I ordered Lacie and got it the next day. I backed my time machine onto it and it took about 2 hours or so the first time. Easy as pie!! Each subsequent backup has taken about 5 minutes or less. This is a very sturdy backup. Very very very happy. Not expensive either. I'm a Lacie person now. Travel for work. The drive is fast (~100-110 mB/s) vs seagate 5tb (80 mB/s). USB A vs USB C makes little difference (c is 3% more). Be careful you dont put it it on any non usb 3 hubs. Will update for durability in a few months but we used these in grad school and they seemed pretty robust. I was apprehensive that this was about 20-30% more expensive than vanilla external but am satisfied with the premium as its a bit faster and looks pretty good and I assume more durable. ... show more

I love these hard drives. I have two now that I use for all my photo and video backups as well as computer backup just in case. Never had it die, and loads quickly with all the data. I also love the color so I don’t loose it.
