This was my second electronic lock installation in as many weeks. As I already knew what I was doing, the installation was easier than the first. I DID re-use the existing bolt mechanism, as the backset was already set appropriately and it was mortised into the door. Setting up the codes and interface with my home automation was easy. CAUTION: it will not let you set the access code to the same digits as are used in any other Kwikset device linked to your automation hub. Something to consider: most 911 services will accept the access code during a call for assistance and then transmit it securely to responding units (our county is to a secure laptop on board the responding unit) and enable their entry to the premises. A good feature if you live alone or are incapacitated and cannot get to the front door to let them in. ... show more

For those of you installing this, there's a part where it says you get a green light or a red light. If you get the red light you have to retry until it's green. However, like another reviewer, I got an ORANGE light. Nowhere does it talk about an orange light. So I spent a long time trying to troubleshoot and figure out how to fix it. Well, I gave up and just decided to try to finish the set up with the orange light. And guess what, it worked like a charm. Moral of the story, if you get an orange light treat it like a green light. ... show more

I wanted one for a year or so and finally got one at a great price. I read a few questions that said it wasn't compatible with ring but it was. I bought it used and needed to reset it. Once reset it connected immediately and I added a code from my phone and then added the other codes. On app it will lock and unlock as well as accept the codes and arm and unarmed the house. This lock only took about 10 minutes to install, was easy to add to my Ring system (Z-Wave ftw!) and then was auto-recognized/added to Alexa skills. I lvoe when things just effortlessly work and this definitely does. Installed on 2 garage side doors and my back house door and am very happy.

The hardware was very easy to install and feels solid. Being able to use my original house keys are a plus. It runs very smooth but it is also noisy. That's something you will need to be okay with. This was easy to install into Hubitat Elevation and took less than 10 miniutes to add 5 sets of codes into the lock and assign them to someone. I was able to link it to Alexa and Google was a no go. I've been struggling with Schlage locks on my Hubitat platform for 3+ years since migrating from Wink. With one installed at the front door and one at the back, I've been through a total of five failed units. I don't know why Schlage can't figure out their QC and warranty policies on these locks, but it's embarrassing for them.Since all of my locks, including non-smart ones, are keyed alike - I felt locked-in and didn't want to change brands for just one or two doors. ***IMPORTANT*** - this is not a well documented feature, but this lock can be re-keyed alike with other Schlage locks by ordering a replacement SC1 keyway with Kwikset's patented SmartKey technology to allow you to match keys yourself with no special tools or training. This is a big deal to me, since I can keep all the other Schlage locks but benefit from this lockset, which is: 1. Much less expensive. 2. Much more available in retail channels. 3. More compact and 4. So far, much more reliable. Throw in the z-wave 700 series radio and this is a NO BRAINER. The SC1 keyways aren't that easy to find or determine the correct part number, but as an example, I ordered Kwikset P/N 85174 in black finish to match my Bronze lockset. Easy to install, easy to rekey, and finally freedom from Schlage's failed ecosystem. BTW - I'm still waiting, 11 weeks now, for the most recent warranty replacement to the failed Schlage lockset this item replaced. I haven't decided yet what to do with it whenever it arrives, because when the other Schlage lock in our house fails, it is going to be replaced with another one of these... ... show more

I love the way this lock looks. I have the matching lever (SmartCode 917) on the front door as well as the back, as well as the Halo Touch model on the back door so both entry doors looks sharp and modern. The build quality is what I expect from Kwikset; durable, sturdy, and solid. I like the smart key feature so I can minimize the number of physical keys I carry. Installation was on par with other locks, straight forward and the included instructions were clear. This isn't my first smart lock. I have their wifi lock on my back door and have had a previous z-wave Kwikset locks on my previous home. I was able to add this lock to my SmartThings app easily enough. My one disappointment is there seems to be no way to add this lock to my Google Home, despite what Kwikset itself says. All information I could find is how to add a Kwikset wifi lock to Google Home, not their z-wave or zigbee locks. According to their FAQs, this lock should be compatible with Google Home, but the only other information they give is 'consult the home automation system.' There is no option in Google Home to add a Kwikset z-wave lock, only the Kwikset app itself, which their z-wave locks are not included. Other than that, I really like this lock. I'm slowly making my home into one that is truly mine and that includes changing out more traditional hardware throughout. The contemporary look of this lock, coupled with its smart capabilities, is a big step in that direction. ... show more
