  • Works like it should!
Color: Satin Nickel
I bought this to put on my workshop door deadbolt. I am introducing some automation and IoT functions around the house and shop, and this is part of that. When I first attempted to install it, I could not get it to match up with the deadbolt no matter what I tried. I have a Kwikset deadbolt, so it should have been pretty easy. It was anything but. I finally discovered that when the deadbolt was installed on the door by the company that built the building, it was not installed correctly - it was twisted a bit. I ended up purchasing a new deadbolt altogether. Once I installed the new deadbolt and was confident it was correct and working, I went back to installing this conversion kit. Second round, the physical installation went smoothly. I did have issues getting it connected, though. I am using Home Assistant, and have a remote Zigbee gateway, based on a Raspberry Pi. I don't know if the issue was with the lock itself, HA, or the Pi, but through repeated resets or multiple components (including the lock), I finally got it working. I wish I could tell you what fixed it, but I honestly am not sure myself. Maybe persistence won out. Maybe I found the proper curse word combination. Whatever it was, it has been working for a few weeks now with no issue. ... show more

  • Simple Way to Make Existing Locks Smart
Color: Satin Nickel
This actually replaced my existing Kevo, so it was a simple installation of swapping out this back panel. It paired easily to my Home Assistant via Zigbee. The device’s batteries last a lot longer than the August Lock. The back panel is solid, though the black plastic panel is a bit flimsy. Also, the placement of the screw on the bottom makes it challenging to install because the door handle is in the way. I’d prefer if the unit was more streamlined and less bulky, for a better look. Overall, this is a great alternative to other smart locks and retains the existing lock look and functionality from the front. Works great with Home Assistant. ... show more

  • Louder than a chainsaw and dead after 3 months
Color: Satin Nickel
The instructions are verbose, but fairly usable. Getting it configured "correctly" for left-vs-right doors is confusing at first (mostly a wording and status communication issue) is a bit weird, but fine. Otherwise, it works. Connects just fine to Home Assistant and seems to work. However, it is LOUD. Like... REALLY loud. Like... "power drill" loud. Or "chainsaw". How is it THIS LOUD? I can literally hear it echoing down the hallway of my floor of the apartment building... from OUTSIDE my apartment. How has no one else mentioned how loud this is? ... did I just get a bad unit? Update: 3 months later (note: I replaced the original unit with another that seemed to be slightly quieter), the motor has just stopped functioning. It started sounding a little funny less than a week ago, happily locked yesterday morning when I went to work, but then was no longer working when I got home. No sounds or anything indicating even an attempt to lock/unlock when it is requested to, but it does still seem to be reporting the lock status when manipulated manually. So I guess the motor is just dead. Guess the motor isn't rated for more than 250-300 cycles... ... show more

  • Nice and easy
Color: Satin Nickel
Easy installation easy to integrated into our existing security system. Able to keep all the locks keyed the same like they were prior to installing. If you can read instructions and know how to use a screwdriver it will take you less than an hour to install it and get it set up.

  • Works well, beware of connection issues
Color: Satin Nickel
The device works great and was easy to install. It includes hardware for a number of deadbolt types, and clear instructions regarding which hardware kit to use with which brand of lock. It paired quickly with Home Assistant, in order for it to function you will need to add "lock:" (without the quotes) to your configuration.yaml to enable the lock integration. I did have some issues initially with the device staying consistently connected to my Zigbee network. It would work for a short time, and then stop responding to commands, with a "no route" or "no response" type error code, despite being within line of sight to my hub. This was resolved by adding a routing device (an inexpensive ZigBee smart plug) to an outlet nearby. ... show more

  • Great product
Color: Satin Nickel
Setup was easy. Works with ZHA. I love the fact that there is no need to change the lock mechanism or the outside unit. My favorite part is you can easily remove the battery pack with no tools in two seconds and your lock becomes an ordinary (dumb) lock with no outside connection, and still looks good. ... show more

  • Cautiously optimistic
Color: Satin Nickel
Based on the other reviews in withholding final judgment. Right now though I easily installed this device to am existing Kwikset deadbolt. It is connected to my Home Assistant instance via ZHA for a few days now without issue. It responds much faster than the August lock I tried out (likely bc it works without a cloud connection). Couple things though. First it is recognized as a gen 1 when I connected it and the box showed a manufacture date of 2017. Second i was sold an open box unit rather than a new unit. Amazon did give me $20 back so I'm satisfied. The batteries in the box were corroded and weathered by poor storage conditions. The lock hardware itself looks ok. I pulled the zigbee board out and it is in good shape. Even being opened, it was obviously unused so I think it'll all be ok. Yes it's loud and you have to take the face plate off to replace batteries but...it ended up only costing $80 so again, I'm ok with some design shortcomings. A few days is not long enough to evaluate battery life but I will update my review if that looks to be an issue. Overall, so long as it lasts, I do not have any major complaints considering the cost. ... show more
