Description

The SmartCode touchpad smart lock with Home Connect technology enables the lock to wirelessly communicate with other devices in home. The lock allows the user (through a web enabled device) to remotely check the door lock status, lock or unlock the door and receive notifications. SmartCode is a one-touch locking motorized deadbolt. With your personalized code, you can enter your home with the convenience of keyless entry and the back-lit keypad provides increased visibility. SmartCode is easy to install, program and use, and operates on 4 AA batteries. It also features SmartKey Security as the back-up keyway. This single cylinder deadbolt can be locked or unlocked by using the keypad or key from the outside as well as the turn button from the inside.

I have several Kwikset smart locks and love that I can re-key them using the smartkey tool. This is the first one that has network connectivity. I had to upgrade to the Echo Show 8 (3rd gen) to get the ZigBee hub capability (Echo Plus and Echo 4th Gen also have the ZibBee hub). To connect the lock, I used the Alexa app and had to choose Lock and "Other" (only preprogrammed to Kwikset Halo). When choosing "Other", it asked for type of connection (ZigBee, Z-wave Etc). I chose ZigBee 3.0 and it connected immediately. The ONLY think I don't like it that this lock mechanism is louder than the one being replaced (Kwikset 909 SmartCode) ... show more

This was the second lock that I installed. The first used the wrong communication system so would not link to my system. When I got this one, it was easy to install because of my prior experience. Be aware that there are three communication systems; wi-fi, Z-wave, and ZigBee. Make sure you order the correct system. ... show more

This is a problem with the re-key option with these locks. I received a previously returned lock that had been rekeyed. The manual keys did not work. There was a note in the box that stated that they digital part of the lock did not work. I still attempted to install the lock but as stated the lock did not work even after doing a hard reset. Zigbee and Z-wave are the way to go with home automation. They can be locally controlled by the hub, so the internet isn’t a weak link. And, they use less power to communicate which is especially great for battery powered devices. They’re both a better option than bandwidth and energy hogging WiFi in my opinion and of the two I’ve had better range performance with Zigbee. If you want a lock that not only opens with a code, but is great for remote operation and as part of home automations, this is a great and reliable choice. And of course the kwikset system lets you key it to match your other locks. (In case it’s of interest to home automation folks; I use the Smartthings hub and have a veritable constellation of Zigbee and zwave devices working together.) ... show more

First of all, in general I HATE that Amazon lumps together reviews and Q&A's of different model devices together. It makes it VERY CONFUSING. Kwikset has many different models of smart locks. Some use zigbee, some use z-wave, some use bluetooth or wifi. I am reviewing the Kwikset Home Connect 914 Keypad Electronic Smart Lock with the Polished Brass Finish. The lock itself looks great and was easy to install in my door which already had a standard deadbolt. Programming unlock codes using the they keypad and programming buttons on the lock worked just fine. My frustration began with trying to get it to work with the Tuya Zigbee 3.0 gateway (hub). I was able to put the lock in pairing mode and get it to connect with the Tuya hub. The "Smart Life" app that works with the hub was completely useless when trying to actually program user codes and actually lock and unlock the door. It simply doesn't work and I was actually getting prompted in Chinese. I went online to the Tuya support and they told me that Tuya hubs only work with Tuya devices. The product information on Amazon clearly says it is compatible with Tuya. I guess the product information is wrong. I want to get this device to work with Alexa. My question is exactly which zigbee hubs are 100% compatible with with this device? The kwikset website is pretty useless and just says compatible with Amazon Alexa and Samsung Smartthings. That's wrong too because not all Alexa devices have zigbee support. I currently have 2nd Gen Echo dots which are not zigbee compliant. I'll up my rating once the product info is fixed with a list of hubs that this lock actually really works with. ... show more

I really love this product. Very easy to install and works great. The smart key feature is really nice too, so you can change it to use your old key in just a few seconds. Just be sure to change the batteries regularly, as they can corrode when they get old.
