Ok, so I've had the One Touch Battery Operated Can Opener "as seen on TV" for a number of years and it finally died. I was ready to buy another to replace it because I really liked it. BUT, based on recent reviews, it seems as if it is not being made as in the past or it tends to be knock-offs of the original so there I was, searching and searching AND searching some more for something to replace it. Not only am I left-handed, but I also suffer from arthritis so finding a can opener I can actually use with ease, is not an easy thing. So I saw this WONDERFUL Kuhn Rikon Auto Safety Master Opener, Blue on my FAVORITE place to shop - amazon.com - and not only read the reviews but posted a question to buyers of this great opener. Based on these factors, I decided to "bite the bullet" and order one. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! My husband and I both ABSOLUTELY LOVE this little gadget! Opening cans is a snap - you just need to follow the very simple directions and your can opens easily. I love the little lid grabber - that part did take a little getting used to only because I was trying too hard to grab and lift. I don't know how this gadget opens the lid without ANY sharp edges on either the lid or the can, but it does. And I love the fact that no part of the opener comes in contact with the food in the can and I have not had any label pieces falling into the can like they sometimes did with my One Touch. Another thing; you know when you open a chicken or tuna can how it never fails, you slop the liquid all over the counter? Well, not with this baby! This opener comes with other functions besides removing the lids off your cans. It has this little hook on the opposite end that makes opening pop top cans a snap! Have you ever tried pulling the pop top tab on vegetable or soup cans and find yourself fighting and pulling and pulling to get that dang lid off? Well not with this little gem! Just place the hook under the pop top, pull up and back and the entire lid peels off with ease. And then there is the part that opens your drink bottles. How many times did you buy a bottled drink and fought to unscrew the top? If you are like me, I'm sure it's one time too many! I've had to have hubby or a waitress open them for me more times than I can remember! Now, with my FANTASTIC Kuhn Rikon Auto Safety Master Opener, this is one more thing that has become a snap for me! You do have to place it "just so" over the bottle cap but once you get it right - it took me a couple tries til I got it down pat - it unscrews the top easily. I use it for my 16.9 ounce drinks. And then there is the jar "popper" as I call it! This part is awesome for jam or other jars that have the little air pocket thingy in the center of the lid. My goodness, you just place the correct part of this opener over your jar and give it a little upwards motion and pop - off it comes without any damage to the lid! This can opener couldn't be better! On top of everything else, you don't have to worry about bacteria taking roost on it like other openers. I had not realized how foods and other stuff got on and into other can openers - including my One Touch that I thought was the greatest thing on earth - until I got my Kuhn Rikon Auto Safety Master Opener! I've already got plans on purchasing a couple as gifts for family and friends!

Little ones always find a way into the recycling and this ensure no sharp can edges for them to cut themselves on. Easy use and easy clean. Though on the bulkier side it’s multi use is a time saver and space saver in drawers.

I really like this can opener. Honestly, this is probably the first and only time I'll ever get excited in buying a new opener. Only because this one is so different and has multiple functions so that it can help me de-clutter the kitchen drawers. I found the can opener function easy to use and fast to learn (I really don't know why some of the reviewers said that it was hard figure out this function. Just read the instructions and follow it. It works differently but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.). I like the way this opens the can because it doesn't leave a sharp edge where you could potentially cut your fingers. Also, for those of you who recycle, we all know that we can rinse and rinse a can and it can still leave some reside in it...thus stinking up your recycle bin until the next pick up. With the way this tool opens up the can, it allows you to recap the can thereby keeping the food reside inside the cap w/out it airing out (too much of) the stink around your recycle bin area. Its NOT a tight seal, but it's enough to keep the stink contained. The tab opener works nicely especially during those times where you just clipped your fingernails and it hurts too much to try the lift the tab with your fingers. The (beer) bottle opener also work as expected. Nothing fancy here but its embedded in this tool if you need it. These three functions so far work with any sized can. There is also a clipper function that graps the can's lid off after you use the can opener function. Sometimes it doesn't work for me only because there is too much suction with whatever food is inside the can and it sticks to the lid. It's just easier to use your fingers to life the lid off after you've completed cutting it open. The last function is a twist cap bottle opener located on the opposite side of the (beer) bottle opener. When I first tried this function I had that "stupid me/ah-ha" moment because I realized it's not a one size fits all. It will not twist off all sizes of bottle caps. I haven't had a bottle yet that had a cap size that would fit into this opener so this is the only function I haven't really used with any success -- I took off one star for this. Aside from that, I like this tool a lot and would gift this to someone if I actually knew someone that needed a can opener replacement!

I just celebrated my 9 year wedding anniversary and realized the other night, after nearly breaking my wrist trying to open a can of kidney beans, that our can opener was a wedding gift. It's your typical can opener, the basic kind that cuts a jagged lid off, very hard to use--literally the world's worst can opener. I hate it. It's really stupid that it took me 9 full years of a horrible can opener to finally purchase a GOOD one, but at least when I replaced my evil can opener I picked the WORLD'S BEST can opener! The Kuhn Rikon--a brand I've never heard of--seemed to have the best reviews on Amazon as far as can openers go. When I slammed down my half-opened can of kidney beans with my sprained wrist the other night, I headed straight to my computer and made the most impulsive purchase of my life--within 60 seconds I had ordered this one (after very quickly scanning reviews). It arrived today and I've opened several cans with it already. Wow! What a difference it is to use something that is not only a total piece of junk, but a genius product! Let me say, after reading the very few negative reviews, I am absolutely certain that most negative reviewers did not read the directions before trying to use this Kuhn Rikon can opener. This can opener functions a bit differently than any other one I've ever seen, but once you read the instructions thoroughly, it's a dream to use. It locks on top of the can (not onto the side) after a twist to 3 o'clock clockwise. From there you just make the round once on the can, turning the handle clockwise. Once you get all the way around, you twist the handle COUNTER clockwise just a bit to release the can. From here, it's hard to pry off the lid just with your fingers, but no worries, the Kuhn Rikon has it figured out for you: a little addition to the side (looks like a bird's beak) easily grips the lid and pulls it right off. You'll have to give it a try to see how clever this can opener is, but what I love so much about it is that: 1. The edges on both the can and the lid are cut smooth, I would let my 4 year old use this can opener. No worries about cuts here! I can now also scrape my silicone spatula in a can without it being sliced up. (Going to be buying a new spatula now too.) 2. The can opener never touches any food, making cross contamination and filthy, rusted can openers a thing of the past. 3. Your fingers also don't have to get messy, touching the lid once detached is never necessary. The Kuhn Rikon does it all for you. There is also a pointy part at the other end of this tool for opening up ring-top cans with ease, a beer bottle opener, and an opener for twisting lids off small bottles. A multi-tasking tool to be sure. I wish I had bought this can opener 9 years ago. I can't believe I've spent all this time injuring myself over a stupid can opener when here the Kuhn Rikon cuts my cans open like buttah. Recommended to anyone and everyone. LOVE this product.

I was tired of traditional handheld can openers that don't work right and I saw this item on a lightning deal so I thought I would give it a try. Well worth the investment and I can see this lasting for a long time. I usually don't write a review until I have had something for a while and have recovered from the "Christmas Morning Bias". I can honestly say this is a great tool and because it multi-tasks I give it 5 stars. It can be a little tricky to operate if you have never used one before. Here is the best way to go about it: 1. Look where you are starting to open the can because I cannot tell when it is done cutting as it feels the same 2. Turn clockwise until you pass that point and then backup counterclockwise to release (this is the big gotcha because the first time I used it I tried to rip it off the can top) 3. Push the white button to operate the claw to help you remove the lid with no risk of cutting yourself The great thing is that if you can reclose the can pretty well in case you only need part of what is in there for a recipe or something. This is cheaper than an electric can opener and is easier to use and ergonomic. There are other versions of this that do not have the bottle opener end and if you feel like you have enough bottle openers than get them instead. The less things cluttering up my drawers the better for me. You cannot go wrong, the only variable is what color to get it in if that matters.

This is the best can opener I have ever used! It is designed to fit perfectly in your palm and is comfortable to hold. I originally purchased another brand but then came across this Kuhn Rikon and liked the multi-tool concept. Once I received it and tried it there was no other option but to return the original one. This is such a handy tool and it gets used daily. Love being able to open cans without getting sharp edges as no more cuts and no more ruined silicone spatulas! I was able to eliminate the bulky old fashioned can opener, bottle top opener, screw top opener, and the collection of plastic lids for cans so now I have a streamlined utensil drawer with a lot more space. I even opened a can of soda by hand and bent the pull tab to where it would not open and was able to punch the cut out with the hook on the end of this opener even though that's not its intended use. Anyway, this is my favorite new kitchen toy and was an excellent purchase. I highly recommend the Kuhn Rikon Master Opener. It's well worth every penny.
