We now own two of these racks - one is on my wife's small car and one is on our SUV. We like the integrated lock feature, and the rack is very steady and sturdy on the car. During the summer months, we pretty much use one of these racks daily. Our bikes are lightweight and we don't off-road to many trailheads, so we can't address those questions. Verses our prior racks, we absolutely love the pedal feature that raises and lowers the angle of the bike trays. Our prior racks required you to manually pull out pins to fold them up, a time consuming and tiring task. The rack is well constructed and it has the feel of a much more expensive rack.     • Easy to Load. Very secure

I read many reviews on platform bike carriers and I am very pleased with my Kuat bike rack. It mounts securely in my hitch and I can load my bike and lock it very easily. The locking cable threads easily through the bike frame and clicks into place. This bike rack is not cheap but what you are buying is excellent design and thoughtful engineering for ease of use. I often leave the rack mounted and just fold it up out of the way while not in use. The paint job looks to be high quality and I expect it to last a long time. I have had frame mount racks in the past and I think this platform rack is the way to go. I move the wheel clamp over and drop the rear wheel into the strap slot. Then swing up the wheel clamp and push it down. The bike is now held in place while I strap in the rear wheel. Then I give the clamp one more click and it’s secure. I then thread the lock cable through the frame and wheels and run the cable through the loop. Click, I’m done and ready to go. The rack is solidly held in the hitch by the pin and screw clamp. It doesn’t bounce around and seems very tight and secure. When I arrive at my location I reverse the process, load my computer and water bottles. Tip up the rack and I’m off. Loading and unloading takes minutes. Storing the rack is easy. I disconnect it and it actually Stands on its own in the garage. One day I’ll put some hooks for it. I am very pleased with this rack. It’s not cheap, but I think it’s worth the security and ease of use. ... show more

not much to say it works. Have seen some bad reviews saying the plastic hook is too close to the exhaust and melts, but those bars literally can be swung to either side of the rack. So if the inside hook is too close to your exhaust, just flip it to the other side before tilting it up.

Don’t let the lightweight fool you, this thing is build solid, heavy duty! It’s very well designed, easy to assemble and so easy to use. You will not retreat buying this bike rack, it is very impressive. Important installation notes: there are a few negative reviews, but most are user error! 2 Tips, before you completely tighten the 2 long bolts install the bolt that goes next under them first so it goes in easy!! Also loosen the anti play knob BEFORE you try to put it in the hutch the first time of it won’t go in….. ... show more

The rack is easy to assemble and is really very sturdy. It has a nice finish and folds up or tilts to allow access to trunk of tailgate. Nice rack and would highly recommend..
