  • Worst pan I own
Color: Pistachio Size: 12 Inch
I have other enameled cast iron pans and nothing sticks to them, my cusiniart is amazing! This pan is a piece of junk everything sticks to it, it’s really difficult to clean, the handle is obnoxious. Wish I never purchased it. I am now going to donate or leave this pan on a shelf for decoration because it is useless to cook with ... show more

  • Great fry pan
Color: Cast Iron Black Size: 12 Inch
I love this. The straight sides allow for more space within. I especially love frying fish in it. It's worth the money!

  • Seems overpriced. Bottom is very rough - not good for glass/ceramic and/or induction ranges.
Color: Cast Iron Black Size: 12 Inch
Reviewing: "KitchenAid 48395 Seasoned Cast Iron Frying Pan/Skillet, 12 Inch - Black" I've been a fan of Kitchenaid for a very long time. Usually they have great products, but I think this misses the mark in terms of versatility/usability on all stoves. And as others have commented, the price may be high for the actual usefulness you're getting (or rather, not getting). The size is good, and I like the styling, but I won't be able to use this pan for cooking as of yet - because all that is available to me right now is glass top and induction/ceramic. For a standard electric stove, or for gas, it would be no problem. The ad copy says it's "safe to use on all cooktops". It is probably inadvertent, but I think that is misleading. I think they mean that the pan won't be harmed by various cook tops, and not that the pan won't harm certain types of cooktops. The casting on the bottom is very rough to the point that it would scratch a glass top stove or induction, and I'm not referring to someone sliding it from one burner to the other, but rather, those little movements that we do while cooking when you grab the handle and reposition the pan to get a utensil under something, or to add ingredients. This is so rough on the bottom that I think it would mar any kind of glass or ceramic cook top. Aside from that disappointment, I do like that it comes preseasoned. It's heavy, but that is good. Because it's Kitchenaid, I anticipate that it would perform well on a gas, or standard coil-burner, electric stove. So I'm not ready to chuck it just yet, and will look for a burner to use it on. I just wish the listing would have been clearer to communicate that it is the pan that won't be harmed by various types of cook tops, and not the other way around. If you have glass top, or ceramic/induction, I wouldn't buy this unless you plan to use it differently. ... show more

  • Too Heavy
Color: Pistachio Size: 12 Inch
Way to heavy. Looked great - would perhaps do a great job. However this retired lady would have problems lifting. Additionally, a hole at the end of handle would make it easier to store on a ceiling rack's hooks.

  • Hard to Justify Price, Not as Good as Much Cheaper Lodge
Color: Cast Iron Black Size: 12 Inch
A good cast-iron pan is a must in any kitchen, and one that comes pre-seasoned helps mitigate the initial upkeep, though you're still going to want to treat it carefully, in order for it to last a lifetime—which cast iron well cared for most certainly will. (Won't go through the whole process here, but it's worth a Google.) This isn't an awful pan, but given its very high price point, I expected more. It's well sized, and suits a wide variety of frying, baking, broiling and roasting purposes, and the pour spout is kind of nice when frying. But other than that, there's not too much to recommend it. Honestly, not as good as a pre-seasoned Lodge at half the price. The handle is overly broad and awkward, even when not hot. And the cast iron itself is a bit thinner than I'd like to see. Disappointed. ... show more

  • Nice. Expensive.
Color: Cast Iron Black Size: 12 Inch
The media could not be loaded. With clean lines and a modern look, this is no retro cast iron skillet from KitchenAid. But its competition is Lodge cast iron, and though Lodge's looks are antedeluvian, the Lodge price is 1/3 to 1/2 the price of this KitchenAid, thus I see no reason other than aesthetics to purchase this over the Lodge 12-inch skillet. Lodge actually makes two different 12-inch cast iron skillets. This KitchenAid skillet's competition is the more expensive of the two, a lighter, more modern design which sells on Amazon for $50 and goes by the name "Lodge Chef Collection 12-Inch Skillet." The Lodge is also pre-seasoned. Lodge's (also pre-seasoned) traditional skillet is heavier and has taller sides, but costs just $30.... This skillet from KitchenAid comes pre-seasoned. It has decent pour spouts on each side and a nicely curved buttom which makes pouring out fried eggs or an omelet easier. The New York Times review site Wirecutter makes the Lodge 12-inch Chef's Collection Skillet its top pick. This KitchenAid is a good skillet, but at two times the price of the Lodge, it's price needs justification that just isn't there in performance. ... show more

  • Contemporary twist on an old favorite, well-made
Color: Cast Iron Black Size: 12 Inch
For certain foods, cooking in cast iron is almost a must. I've had a few cast iron skillets in my day, but this one "casts off" that old campfire style and brings a new, clean, contemporary look to and old favorite. This pan is well made, very heavy and smooth. It's a nice size, deeper and with a side that's 90 degrees from the base. Both the handle and the helper handle are part of the cast and are easy to grip and hold (with the requisite potholder.) The skillet features pouring spouts on both sides so that lefties and righties both have spouts available. My first cook in this was everything I expected. I had no problems with sticking or with cleanup. The pan truly is pre-seasoned and ready to use. The design, look, and quality are everything you'd expect from a KitchenAid product. I particularly like that the bottom is extremely smooth, as I'm now using a glass top induction range and I don't want any scratches on the cooktop. I would definitely order this pan again, and have no reservations in recommending it to others. This may be a bit more expensive than other more cheaply made skillets, but the extra cost is reflected in the quality of the product. ... show more
