  • Overall it’s a good Dutch Oven with just a few flaws.
Color: Blue Velvet Style: Dutch Oven
I’ve cooked a few meals in this Dutch oven and overall it’s been a positive experience. The lid sits flat. Moisture is locked in nicely and and doesn’t evaporate too quickly. And it cooks pretty evenly. The enamel on this is great quality too. So it’s made cleaning easy. My problems are small and superficial mostly. When mine arrived it didn’t have the best finish. Nothing that would affect the cooking… but for a $200 Dutch Oven it should have definitely been better. The matte finish doesn’t feel the best and definitely should be handled with care to prevent stains and scratches. And lastly… the handles are not ideal. You can work with them, but for how much this weighs… they should have made it easier to grab by allowing your fingers to go through the handles. I say this because when I’m washing this… it never feels secure in my hand with the flat handle and water going. I’m just always afraid it will slip and end up causing damage to my sink or the Dutch Oven. More affordable Dutch Ovens don’t even like making handles like this. So overall the Dutch Oven cooks well, cleans easily, and does look somewhat aesthetically pleasing. But some aspects aren’t practical at all, and could be made better. Would I still recommend this? Yes. Compared to my Lodge it out performs it really well. It just falls short in some areas that are important to consumers. ... show more

  • Yes it really is cast iron even if it looks to pretty to be the real thing.
If you have lingering doubts that this is the real deal, they will be dispelled when you pick up the lid. HEAVY! Authentic cast iron. Perfect for making jambalaya or any other dish that requires a cooking pot to fix. Highly recommended.

Amazing quality. No problems whatsoever. If you read the instructions and handle your cast iron appropriately you won’t have any issues cleaning or damage. I highly suggest paying for the name.

  • Stupidly expensive for what it is.
Color: Cast Iron Black Style: Skillet (12-Inch)
I cook almost exclusively with cast iron. I started out with a dual-handle 12" Lodge skillet , and have added other skillets, double Dutch ovens, a ProLogic Wok , and even upped my game to the Lodge Blacklock series a while ago. My expectations for a 12" skillet that commands this kind of price were pretty high. Especially given how nice the Blacklocks are, for a lot less money. So what does KitchenAid bring to the kitchen? Not a heck of a lot. With Lodge and other brands, as you go up in the different tiers, you tend to get lighter, more ergonomic cookware. KitchenAid gives you a crazy-heavy skillet with a funky handle. That funky handle gets hot -- especially if you're planning to go from cooktop to oven, and you can forget about proper silicone holders to safely handle oven-to-surface. And the seasoning? I couldn't believe how rough it was for this kind of money! KitchenAid would like you to spend more than it would cost to buy three basic 12" Lodge skillets (with handles!) for their Chinese pan that isn't lighter, easier to handle, or better-seasoned. It looks more contemporary. But that's the only thing it has going for it. I guess this would make a fine gift for someone who will never use it but likes the idea of having an expensive-ish cast iron skillet. For any normal person though, this is a huge waste of money. ... show more

  • Amazing, quality cast iron
Color: Cast Iron Black Style: Skillet (12-Inch)
We have used this cast iron pan to cook for over a year now. It has become my husband's favorite pan. It's heavy, it's solid, and it is easy to clean. It's exactly what you would expect from a high quality cast iron pan. I've had no trouble seasoning it and it distributes heat beautifully. This is THE pan. It can be used for so many different types of meals because of how high the edges are compared to shallower frying pans. ... show more

  • Nice Cast Iron Dutch Oven
This is a nice cast iron dutch oven. It is great at keeping things warm for long periods of time. It cooks well and works as a cast iron should with holding and distributing the heat. The only thing I had an issue with is that immediately upon the first use the pan started rusting. Thankfully my friend knew what to do and was able to remove the rust and season it properly. I wouldn't trust the pre-seasoning that it comes with and would recommend seasoning it for yourself before using. Now that it is fully seasoned it has been working well. It is a bit heavy, but that hasn't bothered me. ... show more

  • Seems overpriced. Bottom is very rough - not good for glass/ceramic and/or induction ranges.
Color: Cast Iron Black Style: Skillet (12-Inch)
Reviewing: "KitchenAid 48395 Seasoned Cast Iron Frying Pan/Skillet, 12 Inch - Black" I've been a fan of Kitchenaid for a very long time. Usually they have great products, but I think this misses the mark in terms of versatility/usability on all stoves. And as others have commented, the price may be high for the actual usefulness you're getting (or rather, not getting). The size is good, and I like the styling, but I won't be able to use this pan for cooking as of yet - because all that is available to me right now is glass top and induction/ceramic. For a standard electric stove, or for gas, it would be no problem. The ad copy says it's "safe to use on all cooktops". It is probably inadvertent, but I think that is misleading. I think they mean that the pan won't be harmed by various cook tops, and not that the pan won't harm certain types of cooktops. The casting on the bottom is very rough to the point that it would scratch a glass top stove or induction, and I'm not referring to someone sliding it from one burner to the other, but rather, those little movements that we do while cooking when you grab the handle and reposition the pan to get a utensil under something, or to add ingredients. This is so rough on the bottom that I think it would mar any kind of glass or ceramic cook top. Aside from that disappointment, I do like that it comes preseasoned. It's heavy, but that is good. Because it's Kitchenaid, I anticipate that it would perform well on a gas, or standard coil-burner, electric stove. So I'm not ready to chuck it just yet, and will look for a burner to use it on. I just wish the listing would have been clearer to communicate that it is the pan that won't be harmed by various types of cook tops, and not the other way around. If you have glass top, or ceramic/induction, I wouldn't buy this unless you plan to use it differently. ... show more
