When our 20 year old Kenmore refrigerator in the garage died, I dreaded going to Home Depot or Best Buy to buy a replacement, so I decided to try Amazon. When I saw Kenmore on Amazon, that seemed like a natural replacement. I did consult consumer reports, and was a bit that it scored very low (score is 41, with highest-rated top freezer refrigerators at 79) but the price at $599 is right, and it's just a garage refrigerator so I don't need perfection here as long as it doesn't die (famous last words). I did buy the Square Trade 4 year appliance warranty, which is cheaper than the Kenmore warranty offered during checkout. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: + Super quiet. I can barely tell its on. + Good lighting in the refrigerator compartment. LED lighting is bright and efficient, and should last the length of the appliance unlike conventional bulbs that burn out quickly. + Good temperature control Gets to the right temperature and shuts off, unlike some that just run all the time. + Energy efficient: Energy star rated at $57 estimated yearly energy cost, on range from $46 (most efficient) to $63 (least efficient).Estimated at 472 kwh annual energy use, a quarter of what the old refrigerator used. + Good ice production, quiet except when water fills + Wheels on bottom for easy cleaning or re-positioning Con's - I did some research online and found that models that start with 111, which is what's on the instruction manual, are produced by Korean company Daewoo. I have had terrible performance from Korean brands LG and Samsung, and would not have bought this if I knew it were Korean-made. I hope Daewoo is better than LG and Samsung. As others have commented, the delivery service that Amazon uses is far superior to that of the big box store. They were early, professional, knew their stuff, and hauled away the old refrigerator. One thing they didn't know: the ice maker will not start producing ice until the interior of the freezer hits 19 degrees. I was concerned that water didn't immediately fill the auto ice maker but turns out that's by design until the freezer is cold enough. I promise - big time - I will update this review if I run into performance or service issues. I know they don't make appliances like they used to, and for some reason we consumers have to accept that, but at least we can warn others if we run into problems. For now, I am very happy with this refrigerator and pleased to give it a 5-star rating. UPDATE APRIL 2024: 5 years later it's still going strong (I don't want to jinx it) and it's again on sale for a little over $500. This has been a great refrigerator, the icemaker is prolific, and I would still highly recommend it! ... show more

I bought a Kenmore top freezer, loved it, size great. BUT IT DID NOT GET COLD. Called, man said, give it a few days to get cold. I did. Called again. He said dont have a replacement now, give me 2 days, did, called again said I will have a solution in 24 hours. Called again, each time different manager, finally after 10 days was told no more of those in stock. Either you wait until we get on it, or get a full refund. I agreed on the refund. Asked for compensation for my distress and loss of food. Answer We do not have a solution for that. But at least I got my money back, the one that did not work, taken away. ... show more

I had a side/side Whirlpool for the last 10 years. I hated it; hard to locate items, freezer frosted up, filter permanently stuck inside...pain in the tooky-tooky. Got this new top freezer Kenmore and really like it. Easy to see and get items, simple controls, easy to clean. and lots of room. SO much more convenient than the side/side. Ice maker works great. VERY affordable price compared to bottom freezer or other fancy-shmancy appliances. ... show more

The fridge is perfect size. It keeps stuff cold. But there is one small, well kind of annoying feature, there is theost annoying high-pitched bearly audioble but definitely annoying sound that almost is out of the human hearing range, but I have gotten used to it over the last few months to the point where I have to listen really well to hear it. My wife on the other hand can hear it all the time and hates it. She wanted me to return it. But I told her it would be such a hassle. So she has gotten to the point where she tells me everyday so I'm reminded of how it makes her very agitated. I don't see how I can fix the problem, she said to take it with me when I move out .. wow all this over a refrigerator. ... show more

Just received this today and purchased along with the Kenmore Range (229412.) Just got rid of my french door fridge after 11 years and was worried about a lot buying a new fridge and downgrading in size. Let me tell you this baby is PLENTY BIG! The photos on amazon made it look like a fridge you’d find in an office kitchen. Certainly not the case unless you have one hell of an office. I’m very impressed with the layout of the fridge. One shelf (long rectangular one) slides forward which is nice if you have something heavy on it like a crockpot. I like that the other main shelf is split in two so they can be staggered. Also there is actual glass on the bottom shelf so you can see into the drawers easily which I thought was a nice touch seeing how almost everything is plastic these days. The door storage is by far where I was truly excited. Being able to fit a full size pitcher on the shelf of the door is such a space saver! The one thing I was concerned about when buying a new fridge was any sort of water line that was going in (ice/door dispenser) as my fridge that was just hauled away had both and stopped working after just a couple of years. However it continued to leak internally and when they hauled it away today and tipped it to go down the stairs all the water poured out that had been filling it up in the door. Looks like we got a new one just in time! So as you can probably guess this is why I went for a simplier fridge. I was hesitant at first seeing some reviews about it arriving without having the shelves inside, problems with the ice maker, doors handles breaking, but so far so good. I like that they retained only the ice maker as it is very quiet I havent heard it once. If you’re looking for a basic fridge with a nice storage layout and plenty of space look no further. My ONLY con is that the produce drawers are not the depth of the fridge they are a bit on the short side. However as you can see i’m not having any issues and what you see inside is my weekly csa haul so it certainly holds the veggies! From order to delivery, installation, and haul away it was a pretty seamless process I was pleasantly surprised. The delivery guys were professional and very nice. Hope I can continue to say good things about this fridge will update with any changes. ... show more
