  • Why is this out of print?
I bought this book when it was first published, and I revisit it every few years. There are so many books about war and the strategies used to win battles, but this really is an extraordinary view of what it takes to make peace (a great example is the Camp David Accords between Sadat and Begin back in the '70s). Beautifully written by Jimmy Carter, this really should be required reading in our schools. ... show more

  • Misunderstood Former President's Masterpiece of Hope
Jimmy Carter's words allowed me to see the world from another angle. Too often I become trapped in the comforts of this country and I neglect to think about the millions of people who are suffering around the world. In the United States, we concern ourselves over minimal things, such as a surplus of taxes, while citizens of third world countries are wondering if there will be food today. Reading Talking Peace was a wake-up call for me. The mediation skills I learned from the unselfish Jimmy Carter will be useful in my future days of politics. Although mediation is not the major theme of the book, I gained knowledge from former President Carter's skill of being impartial in order to resolve conflicts with various countries of the world. I will remember former President Carter's words when I am in the Oval Office one day. Hopefully great changes will occur thanks to the concepts shared in this book. ... show more

  • Talking Peace
This book is an awesome book because it not only mentions the various conflicts around the world that Americans are unaware of, but it goes into depth about struggles and the interventions by Jimmy Carter to solve these conflicts. This book is an eye-opener to the numerous freedoms and priveleges we often take for granted and that others strive for. Jimmy Carter discusses the attempts of organizations such as the Carter Center and the UNICEF to establish peace and suitable living conditions around the world. Jimmy Carter does not neglect the potential of young Americans and encourages them to do what they can do to make the world a better place for everyone. ... show more
