My husband and I just replaced our carpet with a high quality 25 year plush carpet and love it! We purchased the home with a pre-existing carpenter grade carpet and my Shark Sweeper was just perfect for the job. However, the plush carpet is another beast that definitely required a higher quality vacuum for the job. I looked at Shark and Dyson but did not want to spend that much money on a higher quality vacuum. I am a Gen X lady and saw that there was a Kenmore Vacuum available for less money and several attachments were included for no additional charge. The Kenmore brand was carried by Sears and had a stellar reputation for quality "back in the day". While Sears no longer exists the brand was picked up by another manufacturer and boy I am thankful they did. I hate to say it but Shark doesn't have a thing on this model of Kenmore vacuum!!!!! Three main things on this vacuum that I love with one possible CON: 1. The canister on the vacuum is very easy to empty with nothing inside for debris to get caught on... Because NO ONE WANT TO STICK THERE HAND IN THE DEBRIS CANISTER!!!!!!! AND it can be emptied with one hand - which might be helpful for some folks. 2. When you need the extension for cleaning it is very easy to access and use. This may sound like I am being picky but I had a very difficult time getting the extension off of the (Shark vacuum) which I use almost every time I use the vacuum. The extension can be accessed and used with one hand as well. 3. Ease of Assembly - Only 1 screw to attach the handle to the vacuum - The screw is large and easy to handle so if you have issues with manual dexterity you should be fine. Possible Con: If there are any draw backs it would be the weight which was 6 lbs heavier than my other vacuum at 14 lbs. However, my new carpet requires a more power. If you just need the vacuum for the main floor and your stay on that main floor you should be fine. ... show more

I bought a new vacuum (Kenmore DU2015 Bagless Upright Vacuum Lightweight Carpet Cleaner with 10’Hose, HEPA Filter, 4 Cleaning Tools for Pet Hair, Hardwood Floor, Red), and two months later my daughter took it to college so I thought I’d try another brand (shark NV356E), since it was rated a little better and both Hepa vacuums were at the same price ($159) on Amazon. To cut to the chase, the Kenmore is the way to go, by far. Both have good suction but the sharks design is poor. It’s harder to remove the vacuum wand (which is basically the handle) on the shark and the shark unit is less stable, tipping over if you use the wand a few feet away. So you pretty much have to bend over to hold onto the base all the time you’re using the wand. The cleaning tool holder and top cord wrap are also attached to the wand making it more difficult to slide the wand under/between objects. The kenmore isn’t perfect, I wish it had a longer wand accessory and the vacuum isn’t as wide as my previous one, meaning you have to go back and forth more often - but this was true of the shark too). However after using the kenmore I thought it was a pretty good machine and a good purchase. After using the shark I was aggravated by its design and annoyed that I’ll now have to take it apart to return. Quite honestly, when I bought the shark I thought both vacuums would be pretty much the same or the shark would be better - I never thought the shark would be so annoying to use that I’d go through the hassle of taking apart and trying to return. ... show more

    • Extension attachment is not enough for high ceilings, suction is very good

First use. Cons: This vacuum is bulky - when it’s all put together you have hoses going everywhere so you’re not sure if you put it together right. The instructions and illustrations to put together could have been better. It’s not light weight for my age (60). The extension device is not high enough for my old house with 9’ ceilings. I probably should have read the description more clearly - this is what happens when you shop on-line and not in-person. The maneuverability is ok. It does NOT fit under my couch. PROS: The suction is excellent! Worked great on rugs and hard wood floors. I have a cat and I couldn’t believe all the hair it sucked up! Had to empty the compartment several times! The tools for the brush, upholstery and crevices worked very well. I will continue to use this throughout my house but like i said, you should buy this if you don’t need a lot of extension because it’s very limited. ... show more

I've owned any number of vacuums over the decades (some quite expensive) but I don't think I've ever had one that I liked better. Of course it has its downsides, but they're minor. Overall I think that it performs as well or better than any of the others I've had. Lots of suction, the accessory tools are well thought out and easy to use, the power cord is a good length, and the bottom-opening canister makes it very easy to empty. We have one room with carpet in our house so I use my Dyson canister vac daily. Besides cleaning the carpet so well, I use this on the couches and our many cat trees. It is amazing. It sucks up the cat hair amazingly well. So much better than the Dyson canister with the attachments. It saves me a lot of time. It has to be the best vacuum I’ve ever purchased as far as suction goes. I did try this on the bare floors and it didn’t work so great. I think there is a design flaw- the exhaust is in the front so it would blow the cat hair away from the vacuum before sucking it up. The other feature that I didn’t care for is this suction adjustment. I think it is in a bad spot. Using the attachments it is in the location where you hold it, often sliding it open. If you are doing carpet and furniture you will not be disappointed. I kept it just for that reason! ... show more
