This is a great value. The Big Joe 2 and 3 are rather pricey. I got this one on the big Amazon sale for under $750 which was an incredible value. But even at $1100 I can’t see spending over double for the version 3. I have it paired with a Joe Jr which is the perfect set up. The Big Joe holds temps like setting an oven and you’ll be surprised how beneficial the extra grilling space is. One thing about the BJ that never gets talked about is the ability to grill direct (without the deflector plate) but almost a foot above the coals. You get the benefits of direct grilling without scorching the outside of your protein. Perfect for spatchcock chicken. This came via scheduled delivery. It was easy to assemble, but you'll definitely need help as it is extremely heavy. I have used it to grill everything from burgers to steaks to scallops. I've also smoked ribs, chicken wings, brisket, pork butt, and whole turkey. Ive seared steaks at over 900 degrees and smoked all day at 220 degrees. I had the Kamato original 18” grill and loved it but at times the grate space was a little crowded so I ordered the Big Joe 24” and it is huge. I included pics of the two grills side by side. If I had it to do over again I would keep the original 18” Joe. The 24” Big Joe is a great grill but just like a small car vs a SUV, it takes more gas to drive the SUV(charcoal). Both grills cook well but the 18” grill uses less charcoal and I feel was easier to keep on temperature but if you need the extra grate space maybe look at the larger grill. These things hold heat extremely well and will stay at temp for hours. I love the taste of charcoal over propane and while it takes a little more work to charcoal grill, I feel it’s definitely worth it. ... show more

I've used a kamado cooker in the past but it was a metal one that rusted through. I was excited to upgrade to a ceramic model and am quite impressed so far. Temp control is much easier in the ceramic (the metal one would spike every time you cracked the lid). The versatility and size (24 in model) is also great. The only thing to be warry off is assembly. It is not possible to lift by the fire box opening at the bottom with your hand and drop it into the stand. Recommend purchasing a potted plant lifter and using a helper (or two!) as the 24in model is heavy. ... show more

    • Bad Customer Service with Big Items Like this Grill

After 3 calls to Amazon Customer Service, I have to post this review. I ordered the grill from Amazon instead of the manufacturer because the deal to include the grill cover is very good. The grill was delivered two weeks later. The carrier fork lifted it and left it in my garage. This thing is heavy, so moving it from the garage to the patio was a struggle. I even had to remove the patio garage door, and it barely fit. I never got the grill cover. Amazon gave me only the option of returning the grill, which seems illogical for such a heavy item. I don’t even have the original package. Sending it back will most likely damage it and it will end up costing Amazon way more than the cover. The whole return and purchase back will take another 3 weeks. It is absurd their system does not allow just ordering and delivering the grill cover. ... show more

I bought this for my husband to upgrade from a pellet smoker. He LOVES it! I took advantage of the free assembly. Keep in mind that it is very heavy! The installer had to come back the next day with one of his colleagues to help lift it on to the stand. Even if you have to pay for the assembly, I would recommend it. It’s all ceramic so it needs to be handled with care. Hubby has smoked, rib eyes, and brisket so far and the flavor is outstanding! Highly recommend it! ... show more

This is a well made Kamado. I like it better than my Grill Dome XL's. The price seemed high until I looked at the cost my accessories from Grill Dome(also great Kamado's). Kamado Joe comes with a lot of accessories standard. They cook the same but the Big Joe gives you more ways to cook right out of the box (Divide and Conquer, ceramic divider, split level cooking, water pan holder) where the Grill Dome only comes with a standard cooking grate. You also have to buy a stand for Grill Dome's but it comes standard with the Big Joe. My Big Joe arrived with a broken ceramic plate due to really bad handling by the carrier. I e-mailed Kamado Joe and cannot believe the great customer service. A replacement plate was shipped to me right away. Props to Kamado Joe, they stand behind there product. ... show more
