  • Amazing value good quality plus fun and easy to play
The media could not be loaded. This Light-Up soprano ukulele by Kala has provided me with hours of fun. It is made of ABS and at first blush might appear to be a toy. Don’t be fooled by the materials this is a well constructed instrument. The kit includes a carrying bag, a charging cable, and the ukulele. It is equipped with Aquila strings that started holding a tune within 36 hours. There is also a quick start guide as well as information regarding the Kala app which is a great tool for anyone who wants to learn to play the ukulele. I’m a daily player. I’m far from an expert but have many ukuleles to choose from including about 5 soprano ukuleles. This is a new favorite. The action is perfect and I can play it with the light on at night when insomnia hits. The sounds is great and haunting which is the way I like it. I got this with my granddaughter in mind. We play the ukulele together when she’s here but she’s a toddler so I’m not ready to give her the wood ukulele I have hidden away until she understands how to take care of an instrument. This Kala Light Tone will be a great starting place for her. This would be a great instrument for anyone in my opinion. It’s impervious to temperature, damp conditions, and even darkness should you choose to use the light that is changeable at the push of a button. To me, it’s kind of like having every color of instrument in the Kala Waterman line for a fraction of the cost. I can’t say enough good things about this little ukulele that CAN keep a tune. I love it and family members who want to play it are going to have to wait in line! ... show more

  • Better than expected
So I was originally worried a little because it’s not made of traditional wood but it surprised me to find that I actually works and sounds great. The material, is unorthodox to say the least but it’s because the ukulele lights up which is a big winner for the kids. I’ve had about 4 ukuleles in this one is my second favorite because it’s quality is apparent even though it’s some kind of plastic or resin. Not sure. The sound is like any soprano ukulele, bright and high. A plus to this is that the nut seems to be made in a way that I was able to string it for a lefty without having to file anything. I’ve been playing ukulele for a short while and am now teaching my daughter and she is loving it because she is left handed. It comes with a charger cable and a flimsy bag that will provide minimal protection. The only downside which is not even visible and doesn’t seem to be a problem is that the tuners are somewhat hollow, so when you string the instrument the tip can go into the hole and not come out the other end. Overall I’m very happy with this instrument. I’m really stoked about the ability to string it for lefty though, that is simply icing on the cake. ... show more

  • Works great. Love the carrying bag and learning app
The media could not be loaded. This Ukulele has everything a beginner would need to get started and its all decent quality. Well worth the price. Here's what stands out to me: ✅ Comes pre-stringed so you can just tune up and go, perfect for a beginner. ✅ Carrying backpack is great for portability and makes for a good hanger if needed. ✅ Excellent gift presentation. ✅ On the neck comes a tag with instructions on how to get the learning phone app. Great for beginners to just follow along. I'm really enjoying this ukulele so far but if there are any changes in my opinion or its quality, I'll be sure to report back in. 🤞 I hope you found my notes, pictures and video useful. Be well! ❤️🔥 ... show more

  • Ok, I guess
The media could not be loaded. This is my first experience with a plastic ukulele. It seems like more of a toy than a real instrument, but it is actually functional. It comes with Aquila super nylgut strings, but it was massively out of tune upon arrival. It’s taking a while to get it tuned, but by day 2 of working with it, I finally managed to get it somewhat stable. Aquila recommends tugging on the strings a bit while tuning, to help them settle in. You definitely will want to have a tuner attached, so you don’t have to resort to an app or video. The Kala app has tuning and video lessons, but unfortunately you have to create an account to use it all, which I chose not to do. Regarding build quality, I did find several rough spots around the seams, and the joint on one side where the neck meets the body has a small gap. This doesn’t affect how the instrument sounds at all, but I expected better for the price. I will say the color changing LED lights are a fun feature. You press the button to change the color, then long press to turn the lights off. It also has a mode that cycled through all the colors, which is pretty cool. The gig bag that comes with it won’t offer much protection, but it is a plastic ukulele, so I suppose that’s not a big deal. I don’t think you can add buttons for a strap, so the bag does makes it easy carry. So if you’re looking for something fun and unique, this might work for you. But I do think it’s expensive at $79.99. ... show more

  • Actually sounds good
The media could not be loaded. I picked this up mostly for the novelty of the lights but the Kala actually plays well. The body is super lightweight and the matte finish feels smooth rather than cheap or brittle. It projects a nice bright tone that works for simple strumming or picking. The color changing lights are vibrant and definitely the coolest part about it which makes it fun for evening hangouts. Just expect to retune often for the first few days while the new strings stretch out and settle. For the price it is a great little instrument that is way more than just a toy. ... show more

  • Novelty instrument
This is a novelty instrument that is fairly functional. It was a challenge to get it tuned the first time but once tuned and learning that the strings on the instrument are different from guitars it helped me get it better. What I mean by different is the notes are different. A guitar is thickest on top to thinnest on the bottom and ukulele is mixed. It is made of a cheap plastic but again is functional. The ukulele lights up but is actually more obnoxious than anything. Lights are easy to turn on and cycle through but rather annoying to turn off. You have to hold the button for what seems forever. Low quality novelty item but still brings fun and gives a taste of a ukulele if you were considering getting one. This would be a relatively inexpensive trial run. ... show more
