  • Fantastic ukulele, probably the best out there for the ...
Fantastic ukulele, probably the best out there for the price. Pros - Nice and sturdy - closed-geared tuners with metal knobs, great bracing with no bend or flex to it at all. Feels really really solid. Gorgeous - looks wonderful. Smooth finish, nice binding, gorgeous neck. Sounds great - The only solid-topped uke I found for this price, it sounds incredibly sweet and LOUD. This thing can project like crazy. Good quality wood, no fret problems, strings came pre-stretched, zero buzzing, and very little need for intonation adjustment. Cons - Gloss finish - Looks nice but LOTS of fingerprints & it starts getting staticy after a while if you wear cotton shirts. Gloss neck - May be a matter of opinion, but I don't like gloss necks. They feel too sticky. You get used to it after a while, though. Heavy - Very neck heavy, not a balanced instrument. Again, a matter of getting used to it, but most nice ukes are much much lighter. In conclusion, if you're in the market for a 200ish dollar uke, buy this. It's an absolute steal for the price and it sounds amazing. If you're looking for something really, really quality and the price matters less to you, go up to something like a 600$ solid koa uke. ... show more

  • Super ukulele for the money!
I've been playing this instrument daily for four years. Great sound. Great action. Excellent loudness and sustain. Beautifully built. Kind of dies out if you go way down the neck, but I don't play there. I recently bought an all solid wood uke but it doesn't win out by a lot. This is an amazing uke for $200. If you're a beginner, step up. This is worth another $100. ... show more

  • Very good (update - Excellent), inexpensive, ukulele.
Been playing it for about a week ... so far great! Very good tone and playability. UPDATE: I have now played this ukulele and many, many others (including ukuleles costing 10 times as much) - you cannot beat this ukulele for value. It sounds great - especially at the price!

  • Final Inspector? You are.
I gave this ukulele 3 stars because it's a Kala, one of my favorites brands. The top of this ukulele was warped at the bridge A little warping is expected on solid top ukuleles near the bridge. The uke also had a ridge across the soundboard just below the neck. What might be okay on a $25 uke is not acceptable on one costing $190.00. Nearly all ukuleles today are mass produced, given cursory inspections, if any, then boxed and shipped to the U.S. The buyer by default become the final inspection point. I have returned this uke. ... show more

  • Beautiful uke with classy looks
Sweet ukulele. The construction is high quality for an instrument in this price range. It's striking to look at -- looks like a mini-guitar. The spruce top produces a sweet, uncomplicated tone. Tenor size is just right for a larger man. It holds a tune well, except for the A string which drifts a bit. It came properly strung with Aquila strings, although the C had a slight crimp in it. It stretched out fine, but I'll wager that string breaks first. For the very slight quality control issue with the imperfect A tuner and the crimped C string, I've reduced the rating to 4 stars, but don't let that deter your purchase. This uke is a winner. ... show more

  • KALA makes a wide range of Uk's
This one is a winner! From the overall looks, finish and quality of construction. ( I am a wood worker and look at details). The sound will take you to the Islands. You can hammer it hard, or play a soft melody. Or finger pick it. She comes standard with Aquila Super Nylgut Strings. Some of the best quality strings for synthetic. It's a gem! And, I am not a Robot! Enjoy. Sincerely ... show more
