  • Best Baritone Ukulele for 99% of players
I read the reviews on this instrument with some curiosity, and a bit of amusement. A few of the reviewers denigrated it for being of Asian manufacture. That is interesting, as one should be aware that if they want an American-made Hawaiian instrument, it would cost at least $2,000. Most players, in a blindfold test could not tell this Kala solid wood Baritone from the 2,000 dollar ones, in terms of tone, playability, assembly quality, and overall feel. As a 40 year performer in a variety of string instrument categories ( guitar, violin, ukulele, viola, etc), I own at present 4 Baritones. This Kala is my go-to instrument in terms of performance—it has an incredible tone, great player response, an incredible fretboard, and volume sufficient for pro performance. It easily beats my vintage Martin Baritone, and 2other high end Ukes that I play. This instrument punches its weight far above its price range, and makes spending any more money for a more pedigreed instrument an unnecessary investment. If you see one of these for sale, grab it, as you don’t often see them for sale, as they are extremely popular by pros for active public performance. It is, without a doubt, and acknowledged by most pro reviewers as the best deal in the professional and skilled amateur price point. ... show more

  • My favorite affordable baritone!
Definitely the best factory-made uke you'll find in this price range. A very dynamic sound and lovely to look at. Switch out the strings though! Nylgut really muddies the sound of this uke out of the box, but carbon makes it sing!

  • An Amazing Instrument
I received my Kala SA-B uke late this AM. Allowed it to sit for a couple hours to cool down (live in FL.) Inspected and tuned up the strings. UNBELIEVABLE! Beautiful instrument. With the first strum, I could not believe the distinct difference between this uke and my others. I am not a professional. I play for my sheer joy of music, so I may not use the proper terms in trying to describe what I hear but this uke is rich, full, and distinct. You hear your bass and trebles when you strum. It is louder than my other two ukes. My husband was in the other room while I played my favorite song and he yelled "WOW is that nice." The sustain is awesome, rings forever. I did abit of fingerpicking and love the tones. I can't wait to hear what develops over time as it ages. I can tell you now, this is an excellent buy, you will not be sorry. UPDATE: It's been over 3 months and this instrument is outstanding. When an instrument calls you to play daily for a couple hours at a time, what more can you say. I have packed up my other ukes and this is the only one on the stand. I have never been so happy and satisfied with an instrument. 2nd UPDATE: It's now months with this uke. Yes, it is my favorite and I play about 2 hours per day. Bute...I am concerned about the wear I am seeing on the walnut fretboard. I am just writing this update because I do not feel at 8 months of playing, I am already getting depressions in the fretboard (top 4 frets) along with discoloration (very light) that cannot be corrected. Now I know at this time it is not affecting my play but just concerned this is happening at 8 months. And yes, I treat my fretboard every time I change my strings with products specifically recommended by KALA. 10/1/19 - I want to add a little more to this review...this is my favorite instrument! I guess I must understand when you grab the uke for at least 3-4 hours a day and play, wear is going to be a natural result. I have 6 ukes and this is my go to. For whatever reason, I feel so comfortable and confident when this uke is in my hands. I swear this uke was made just for me...hahahaha! ... show more

Beautiful sound and beautiful look and brings much enjoyment

  • Beautiful Baritone Ukulele
I love the sound of this ukulele. The nylon strings with the Acacia wood produce a very mellow Hawaiian sound. I have the same Kaka tenor ukulele in Acacia wood. Kala brand ukuleles are reasonably priced and nice quality. I would recommend Kala brand.

  • Overpriced for what it is unless you want to hang it on your wall.
This is definitely a beautiful instrument but buzzed all over the neck and sounded like a plastic toy.

  • Love the Sound
I love the warm deep sound of this ukulele. I lowered the action a little at the nut by filing the nut slots down carefully, keeping the slot angle the same and continually checking to avoid any fret buzz. I used small welding torch cleaning files - you can buy a small set for about $4 at a hardware store or on Amazon. I also changed the strings to Living Water fluorocarbon strings. I think they pull out the warm sound of this uke and to me seem easier to play than the Aquila strings that came on it. But even without doing those things this ukulele was warm and enjoyable to play right out of the box. I'm very happy with it and it's getting lots of play time. ... show more

  • Poor Workmanship
The finish on the body was done poorly. You can see the brush marks.
