  • Fantastic quality instrument
Size: Ka-15sK5
Really nice instrument - much better than I expected and sounds wonderful. Fretting is easy, action is set nice and low, no buzzing, no tuning instability. Love love love.

  • Impressive!
Size: Ka-15sK5
I'm a complete noob to ukulele, though I do know a bit of guitar. I recently became interested in the smaller, nicer-on-the-fingers instrument, and did some research to find that this particular model is one of the most recommended and well-reviewed "budget"/"beginner" ukes, with some going as far as to say the sound quality even beats their much more expensive "professional" instruments. (I did indeed get such a comment from my cousin who plays when I let them try this one.) And that all checks out. I LOVE how this thing sounds and feels in my hands. The folks at Kala clearly care about the instruments they make. Though the images here don't show it, this uke also has a little nut thingy on the bottom that you can attach a strap to. However, the one on mine is a bit loose, can be twisted freely, and often rattles when I play. Nothing a careful dab of glue can't fix, I reckon. Speaking of glue, I did also find a couple stray drops of it along the higher frets of the fretboard. Again, nothing deal-breaking for me, especially for an instrument I bought on Amazon, but some more experienced players might find that a little detracting. That's all I've got for downsides, though. This thing is beautiful and it sounds like a dream to play. You can almost hear the waves and swaying palm trees when you strum it. I plan to enjoy it for years to come. The carrying case included in this listing is essentially just a ukulele-shaped backpack, soft enough to be squished into the tiny box the uke comes in, but for no extra cost compared to buying the uke by itself, it's more than serviceable and I'm glad to have it. Oh, one more thing: y'all really didn't have to ship it before Christmas for me! But it was very kind of you to do so! ... show more

  • middle age with no ukelele experience
Size: Ka-15sK5
OK I bought this after looking at WAY too many reviews of the top ukelele for beginners. I am mid 50s with no musical experience beyond years of piano back in high school. My only negative is I wish I had found out about the joy of playing sooner. This ukelele is great. Here are two tips: 1. I would download the free app that comes with it. (I'm only giving details because I had no idea how to use the app.) You just open the app. Click on the "fork" symbol. Say yes when it asks to access your microphone. Then tap on the letter of the string you want to tune. They are clearly marked on the phone. You don't have to already know which is which. Then strum that one string, and it shows you on your phone if it is too low, too high, or in tune. After it shows in tune, then tap on the next letter for the string you want to tune. It isn't the highest rated app for tuning, and I may switch to that one, but it seems to work well for someone new like me that had no idea what the strings should sound like. I have read a lot that the strings will go out of tune often in the first two weeks until they stretch. I only got my ukelele four days ago so I still have one string that easily goes out of tune. 2. Don't panic when it says the app expires in four days and get upset. You STILL get to tune with the app for free after four days, which is all I want to do. I am not advanced enough to want access to a lot of songs. 3. Pull up Cynthia Lin ukelele lessons on Youtube. I am still working on the first lessons, but you can definitely download the first six lessons for free. She starts with how to hold and strum it. By 48 hours I could play the basic chords for Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. Having no experience, I was pretty pumped. I am now working on her lesson 2 which builds on those chords and adds two more. It is amazing what is available for free, and she literally moves you very slowly through how to play it. The funny thing is I had it 24 hours and was sitting there playing those three chords for the first song, and my son said he asked the music teacher at school if his mom could play the ukelele for the school Christmas program. I'm still laughing about it. You won't be that good.. trust me.. but it is amazing how easily you can pick it up. This is a very inexpensive, fun hobby. Good luck! ... show more

  • Amazing Quality Ukulele
Size: Ka-15sK5
This is my first ukulele I’ve ever purchased. When you open the box, you see the soft shell gig bag which is very cool. It has a pocket on the front and a strap to carry it on the back. Great for just storing your ukulele without getting it dirty. First impression of the ukulele itself was that it was very pretty! It has a beautiful dark color to it, and the design around the middle of the uke is awesome. It sounds beautiful, and it sounds high quality! I honestly had no problems with the ukulele and once you tune it a few times it holds tune very well! As a beginner, I definitely recommend this ukulele because for its price of $56.99 including a gig bag, it is amazing quality and an overall great purchase! I can’t wait to learn my first song and get to playing it! Great ukulele overall, especially for beginners. I highly recommend! ... show more

  • Great for beginners ...and anyone else who wants a nice uke at a reasonable price.
Size: Ka-15sK5
I have a concert sized uke but wanted a travel uke. I very specifically bought a soprano uke, because it fits into standard size checked bag. My concert uke will not. Also, I bought this Uke with the Strongheart case , instead of the starter kit. An absolute beginner may prefer the starter kit that comes with tuner and strap and other things. You can readily download a tuner , and i have a spare strap. So I felt a nice padded case was what I needed. The case alone is worth $30 . It also comes with a strap peg .Which is another $15 to have installed at your local guitar store. The sound is typical for a soprano, and has a more traditional tone. It has good volume, for a soprano, and nice Aguilla strings, which is standard these days. After the strings stretch out it will give you many hours of pleasant music. Totally worth it. ... show more
