This is a well made, well finished (satin) ukulele perfect for beginners or intermediate players. It could be debated whether is is "solid bamboo" since because it is really solid pieces laminated rather then bamboo plywood, but that's a discussion for another day. It has a nice tone, I agree that strung like a traditional uke it is a tad bright. I restrung it with Pepe Romero Baby Baritone strings and now it is much more mellow. I've been playing ukulele for 8 years, but all of my ukes have been gifts. This is the first one I was able to pick out and buy for myself, and the first Kala I've ever owned. Fresh out of the box, the sound was a little muffled compared to my Fender and I was a little disappointed, even though it's so gorgeous. But after about a week of playing it every day, it's relaxed enough that the tone has become loud and rich, and I just love it. ... show more

    • Quality control on setup lacking.
It's a very beautiful use of bamboo with a lovely flat finish. I really wanted to keep this ukelele but I'm sending it back for two reasons. First the fret ends stick out beyond the edge of the fretboard so that they catch your skin when you slide your hand up and down the neck. Second there is a buzz when you pluck a fingered string. The first problem I might have worked with but the second I believe could take a guitar maker to work out. The instrument should have been ready to play out of the box after tuning. ... show more

This Ukulele not only is pretty but appears to be very well made. Finish is very good,frets filed,action is very good,too. This is a solid instrument as advertised. Would buy again.

I love this little Uke. It has amazingly clear tones and stays in tune very well. No muddy notes to be heard, Bamboo rules!

    • Sounds great, looks great, feels...... not so good.
I'll start off with the good. The Ukulele sounds really good, I am quite pleased with the tones compared to my old soprano uke. The bamboo look is really eye catching. But where I have to dock it points is its finish. I dont know what kind of quality control they are using but the front of my Uke was like sandpaper, which I found odd because the rest of it was nice a smooth.
