The media could not be loaded. Pros- clear gain in HP, quicker throttle response, engine breathability. Cons- instillation instructions are difficult to follow. Let's start off with the cons, I experienced some difficulty following the directions because the pictures were faded. I had difficulty figuring out which seal went on the throttle body and which went on the filter end. However, K&N has a YouTube video that outlines EVERYTHING. I found it and was immediately relieved. After finding the video it took me 35 mins to install. There was no tune required for the 2012 ford explorer. This product is nothing but pros!! The product looks fantastic. You can really tell a difference in the sound of the vehicle when it starts and when the throttle is applied. It sounds like the engine is getting better airflow and that it is not restricted to that small air tube from the factory. I felt an instant power gain from this filter. The throttle sounds better at higher speeds (I didn't record that because of the dangers), but I can tell a slight difference on start-up. The throttle response has also changed, the ford explorer is know for its lag, but this improved it slightly. I have also driven some distance since I have attached this filter and I am getting about 1 mpg better gas milage on the hwy. That doesn't sound like much, but the average travel per year via car is 13,476 miles. If gas costs (currently in my area) $2.89. The combined mpg for my vehicle is 23 mpg. 24 with the intake. My truck holds 18.6 gallons. If you are a nerd do these numbers with me. Without the intake you are spending $1,693.25 on gas per year. With the intake you are spending $1,622.29. That means you will save $70.96 per year in gas, not including the probably longevity increase of the engine with the enhanced breathing. If you keep your vehicle for 10 years you are looking at a $709.60 profit. It will also take 5 years to make your money back from this. Basically, this is a good buy and these are only the cost benefits for gas. This doesn't include the other benefits to your vehicle after purchasing this product. You will likely save a lot of money. The media could not be loaded. I absolutely LOVE this system!! First, I have always loved my 2011 Explorer Limited 4WD; however, always felt it was a bit sluggish. Now, don't get me wrong, I realize she's no Corvette or anything, and seats 7 with the 3rd row, but to have 290 ponies under the hood, I've always wanted a bit more punch. The torque is a bit lacking already on the Explorer, so I was willing to try anything. In addition to the power, I was also looking to increase fuel economy. Mine is not the flex fuel version, and although mileage wasn't terrible 16-17 city, 22-25 hwy, I felt there could be room for improvement. Since installing the kit (which was quite easy if you follow along slowly, and carefully with the instructions, took about 45 minutes from hood up to down), I can honestly say the kit has impressed me in all areas! In addition to increasing power you can feel in the seat, it also added a nice tone, which is very pronounced & loud, but only when it should be (i.e., your into the throttle a good bit). If you're cruising around at highway speeds or consistent, you don't hear it at all, but if you get into the throttle, it sounds MEAN! I am going to try and post a video of a 0-60 run in the Explorer from inside the cab, windows up, and no radio. Having said all the above, this kit isn't for everyone! Those who enjoy a super quiet ride, don't get this, period! You will hear it, every time you drive, at some point during acceleration, but i'm cool with that, and what I DO hear is very aggressive and enjoyable, not to mention the benefits from a HP and MPG perspective.

I would love to give this more stars. K&N is a quality product when it fits. The ad says will fit a 2019 Ford Explorer. I didn’t realize until I was almost done when I realized the instructions said up to 2018 Ford Explorer. I had to throw everything back into the vehicle and wait two days until their customer service opened on Monday to find out they don’t have a kit for the 2019.

I put a K and N system on my NA, 3.5 SEL.. made wonderful intake sounds... not so much after putting this on my SHO. I mean you can hear an occasional whoosh under load.. but not like the growl from the NA engine. Mostly due to the stock turbo intake maze and intercooler. I will be upgrading the rest of the intake pipes later on (from eco powerparts), hopefully that will free up some sonic pleasure. I'm very satisfied with the quality build and aesthetics of the product, and the installation was a breeze. But being so far from the throttle body, and a ton of stuff between the two... the sound just wasnt what I hoped for. $ Price was okay, competively priced for quality name brand intake systems. although this isnt a complete intake system (just goes to first bend, not throttle body).

i took a chance (educated guess) that this would fit my 2018 ford interceptor utility (ford explorer base model) with the 3.7L v6. even though K&N website and amazon said this part number was for the 3.5L v6. it fits no problemo. it even comes w a block off plate for the sensor near the air filter so no worries. sounds mean lol for a V6 and there is a noticeable increase in power and fuel economy.

Great product, easy to install. I have a 2015 ford explorer and it took about 45 minutes disassemble the stock parts and assemble the K&N intake. Looks awesome under the hood and sounds even better. I noticed a little more pep but nothing to brag about. Worth every penny in my opinion.
