This is my 2nd time using this chick brooder (I have the small one) with no problems. We have 6 chicks this time around and they have plenty of room. I plugged it in 24 hours before the chicks arrived so it was nice and warm. I’m in Louisiana and it is 55-60° at night, and 65-70° during the day right now (early Spring). I have the chicks on the back porch away from drafts, in a brooder box, with this brooder warmer in with them. I keep the box covered with a blanket at night. They are 6 days old and all doing great! I will keep the warmer at the lowest height for another week, then raise it up a level every week to 10 days so they can gradually get used to the outside temps. It is very easy to assemble - it snaps together. Very easy to clean. I spray it off with a hose when it gets nasty, then clean with Lysol and let it completely dry before putting it back with the chicks. Highly recommend this product! ... show more

I was so worried about purchasing this because the last one I bought (different brand) didn't work at all but this arrived in perfect condition and works like a dream! Keeps 7 babies (Silkies) very warm when mom wants to go outside and get some fresh air! I did order the XL product for reference, they're 2.5 weeks old and they all still fit underneath when mom wants to ditch them for a couple of hours, of course I have it on the tallest lever now. ... show more

It was a good product overall. The chicks really seemed to like it but it is smaller than expected and not very adjustable. The quality seemed good but there was no temperature gauge which made me feel uneasy. We used it for a little bit but the chicks didn't like it much after about 3 weeks. Not sure why. I'm new to hatching and apparently inferred heat bulbs cause off-grid energy outages if you leave it on constantly. First I got a 200W inferred bulb (only 1) for the plastic bin chick brooder - that was brutal for the energy system. Outages every night before midnight. (our battery is ample for normal household use) I changed to 100W inferred bulb (only 1) and outages every night before dawn. Mean time, to keep the chicks alive and warm I had to use inferred bulb intermittently and alternate with setting up boiled water in insulated bottles until I ordered this wonderful warmer! Since I got this warmer, no need for any bulbs or goofy boiled water and I don't notice any issues at all for electricity. We LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this warmer!!!!!! It's simple construction and easy to clean. Cute color and perfect size for the standard plastic black bin (with yellow lid) sold at hardware stores. Sidetone- it turns out that the chicks don't really need to use warmers much since we live in a warm place and keep them indoors but they like to hang out around the entrance of the cute orange warmer and chill during the day and go underneath at night. ... show more
