I have been using this rower for the past two weeks and am happy with purchase. Smooth, consistent strokes with little noise. Plenty of resistance at level 6 water line and can get heart pumping no problem. Setup was relatively easy enough and took about 45 min from box to finished product. Takes up little space and can store upright for even better space management. One minor negative is resistance can’t be changed easily (have to add or remove water) but mine stays on highest resistance and is not a factor. Satisfied so far hope to get years of use w/o problems!

The Joroto Magnetic Rower is actually a pretty good rower for its price point. It uses 2 permanent magnets rather than electro-magnets, and simply moves them (1 on each side) either toward, or away from the flywheel. If electromagnets were used, they would change the electric current to modify the magnetic field strength. Permanent magnets are more low end, are very quiet, but are not programmable. This rower does not plug in the wall socket. Only 2 AAA batteries. One limit of the Joroto Rower is the length of the drive phase. The forward handle travel is limited to directly vertical above my toes for the catch phase because of the physical geometry of the machine. Taller people or more flexible people may not be able to fully extend their arms during the catch. This then affects the length of the drive phase. I'm 5'8" and can sometimes hit the handle rest position during the catch phase. Higher end rowers allow another 12" or so of handle travel beyond the foot pads. The LCD panel is likewise limited to accurately counting strokes and keeping time. It gives an approximate calory number, though I doubt the panel knows the 1-10 resistance setting. The Joroto is suited for Cardio and full body workouts for small to medium sized folks, possibly 6' tall. It is easy to assemble, very smooth and quiet, and apparently very reliable based on reviews and my experience. Mine was missing one metric screw (M6-1.0, 40mm) which I got from Home Depot. The amount of drag it generates appears sufficient for a workout, though I've not verified it using a heat rate monitor yet. If you are a serious rower and want to compete in 2k rowing simulations, this is probably not your best option unless you only have $320. If you just want a workout alternative to your bike or treadmill but want to avoid the $700 to $1,200 higher end rowers, this looks like a good, cheap option. Jan 14, 2021. 2 months of use. Nothing broken, falling apart, getting noisy, or rough to use after 6 hours total usage. Overall still happy. Workout times and resistance levels are increasing. Muscular benefits are mostly upper body, arms, shoulders, back. Repeated rowing motions are getting my knees to bend more fully. Legs muscles, not much effect. Cardio heart rate not quite as high as treadmill but still usable. This may be due to limited big muscle leg involvement, and resistance is only during the drive phase and not during the catch phase. Overall a good complement to my treadmill and bike which give good leg-based cardio.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with this rower. The rower comes packaged well and assembly time took me around 20 minutes. While the rower comes with a few included tools, I found using some of my own helped speed up the process. You'll have to flip the rower over a few times to get a few of the screws in, but it all goes together quite nicely. This is the first rowing machine I have ever owned, and am a little regretful I didn't purchase one sooner. The rowing motion is smooth during both the pull and relax phases and is surprisingly meditative during workouts. There's a rhythm to the actions that have made working out on this machine....enjoyable. The built in resistance varies from an easy stroke to what I'm guessing rowing against a strong current feels like. It'll make you sweat once you start going from levels 5-10. The seat and foot pedals are comfortable. I'm 5' 10" and there is plenty of room on the rail that allows me to fully extend my legs when I workout. There's a little bit of a squeak from the seat as I workout but nothing obtrusively loud. The digital display is very basic, but it does a good job of relaying calories burned, number of strokes, time spent rowing, etc. I cover the display with my phone as it has a phone holder and watch rowing videos on YouTube as I workout. The rower is stable enough that there's almost no wobble or shake (there are adjustable stabilizers built under the posts) and I feel pretty safe having my phone and a tablet on it while working out, though I added some Velcro to ensure the tablet stays on. I do wish the pull bar was about another inch or two longer on both sides, but it's not uncomfortable and the strap connecting it to the magnetic resistance wheel looks well made. I've only been using the rowing machine for a few weeks now, but I'm already starting to notice a drop in my weight. In my book, this was money well spent and I'd highly recommend it to others.
