I've used quite a few paddles over the years, includeing Joola and I'm very familiar with the brand. This is definitely on the low end of the scale for Joola but they want to play in the beginner market so have some options here. After using the paddle, a few thoughts... *I like to spin the ball occasionally, this doesn't give me as much control or spin as most of the paddles I've played with. However, this paddle is more targeted to beginners, who won't likely value spin over being well-rounded...so it's hard for me to ding the paddle for the smoother surface. I did get a close up on the surface and you can see a little texture....so it does have some....just not a lot. *Sweet spot is good....the paddle feels good when contact is made with the ball. If you hit it off the heel or edge, you'll feel it....but that is the same for most paddles. This paddle did have some pop too it (when I struck the center of the paddle)....I liked that! *The handle is of the flatter variety....which I don't really like. I like my handles more square....it just feels better in my hand. I think this is personal preference, but I just wanted to make note of it. Overall.....it's a solid paddle. Decent graphics, good sweet spot and a paddle that I can recommend as a good starter paddle that is fairly well rounded.

We purchased this pickleball paddle for my daughter who is 9 years old. She loves it. It’s fun for a young girl but she can also use it for years to come. It doesn’t feel or look too big. It’s the perfect paddle for 9-18 years old!

This Joola Stratos pickleball paddle is easy to play with and will work well for players who are just starting out. I received the green color. The paddle arrives packaged with a partial plastic cover and hanging tab attached to it. There is no zip-up long time cover or bag and no replacement grip provided. It's just the paddle, but the paddle is fairly good. It isn't the lightest paddle I've ever used, but it's far from the heaviest. Striking the ball anywhere near the middle's forgiving sweet spot will provide usable control and a satisfying thunk sound. The best part of the paddle is the handle, which has a good length to be comfortable for all users, but especially for those medium to large hands The plastic racquet guard on the outside does the job to protect the paddle during low shots. The color scheme to the paddle is true to the product pictures. What you can't tell from the product pictures, though, is that the paddle surface is pretty smooth. Not perfectly smooth, but there really isn't any texture to it. So while I feel like I can pull off accurate shots with this thing, there isn't a lot of grip on the ball if I want to try to generate some heavier top or back spin. That makes sense, since this is marketed as a beginner paddle, but it's probably the one minor consideration you'll need to think about when deciding to purchase this paddle. If you think you'll quickly grow into a player who likes to consistently put some spin on the ball, that's where this paddle won't grow as much as with a finesse player. If you want to focus on learning pickleball and getting more precise with the location of your shots, though, then this is a good starter paddle. If you are a pickleball beginner shopping for a name brand paddle that has good all-around qualities and you aren't really thinking about spin, then this Joola Stratos is a solid choice.

I got a pair for my girls to start learning how to play. They are better than the entry level paddle I started with a few years ago. I hope they take the sport up. I use a Joola pro IV and wouldn’t mind if I had to use one of these for an afternoon set.
