  • Not perfect, but very good.
Size: 24"-36"
Fantastic solution for an awkwardly placed door. This allows us to fully open the door for easier access in a very tight spot. There is one issue with the installation (go to Johnson's website for instructions, easy to find) - they require a certain space between the door jamb and the door trim, which I didn't have, of course. So I needed to grind a bit of plastic from the hinges that hold the door to the jamb (the red plastic part in the product pictures). Which brings me to the other issue with this product: WHY THE HECK RED? Who uses red hinges? Those are the only parts that you see, and they are red... Johnson sells white replacement hinges which are not that expensive, but there's nothing a bit of white spray won't do. Also, if you follow the instructions you will end up with the top of the door at 1/8" from the top jamb, and if you have other folding doors (with regular folding systems) in the room they will awkward. To mitigate this issue you need to install the hinges on the jambs lower than instructed (if you need let's say 3/4" space on top, then place the hinges 5/8" lower than the 7" and 1/8" instructed, so at 7" and 3/4"). I will still give them a 5 star rating since this helped us with solving a nagging issue. ... show more

  • Amazon only sells the mid size panel package
Size: 24"-36"
I bought 2 sets for 2 sets of bifold doors with 21 inch panels for a shed I'm building. The hinges support the pretty heavy sets of panels I built so I am happy with that and they allow full access into the shed through my 2 door spaces in a narrow space between the doors and the property line fence. But I misread the information on the panel size on both Amazon and the manufacturer's website and bought the 12-18 inch panel size package sold by Amazon but I needed the 18-24 in size as my panels are 21" each so the control arms in the packages I bought are to short. also Amazon refers to the width being 24-36" which doesn't correspond to how the manufacturer writes it's specs. I researched the manufacturer website and Amazon before buying but still gotconfused and wrong. My loss because I am well past the return date to purchase new complete packages. Now I need to buy 2 -18 to 24 inch control arms from the manufacturer for more than I paid for the 2 complete sets of parts from Amazon. So please measure your panels and buy the correct package. Fyi Amazon only offers the middle size package adding to the confusion. You will need to buy the larger package or smaller package directly from Johnson, the manufacturer. ... show more

  • Works great for small spaces.
Size: 24"-36"
I installed this in our hallway linen closet- a 24" bifold door. The instructions were a little vague when it came to mounting the arm, but I googled it and got it installed easily. I love that I now have full access to the door and don't have to worry about those terrible sliding tracks anymore. Please note that the "hinges" stick out into the room about 1-1/2". So we see the brown plastic part of the hinge, but it's a tradeoff I'm willing to make. Opening the doors is different now. The first door (strike side) swings out and fold back over the second door (hinge side). At first, you almost feel like the door is falling off if you're used to the track installtions. But once you get used to it, it works very smoothly. We will be ordering more for the rest of our bifold doors. ... show more

  • Did not work for my doors
Size: 24"-36"
I was so excited when I found these. My husband is very handy and he tried to install them. I finally had to call a professional and he couldn’t get the doors to close properly either I ended up taking off the top hinge and just having the doos close Open without The top hinge. I didn’t return them because there is a restocking fee and it wouldn’t have paid was very disappointing ... show more

  • Full access to closet
Size: 24"-36"
I love the bracket (control arm) for the bifold closet doors. It took a while to understand and figure out the instructions. Once you do figure it out the process goes quickly for the other door. I used other door hinges that match the room. I included some pictures of the process. Hope it helps.

  • Great product and design
Size: 24"-36"
This design is awesome. I really don’t like the bifold door tracks, and this is a great alternative. I installed this for a pantry door - it was a very simple install and it looks fantastic. I used automotive primer and paint to paint my hardware black. There are other Buford’s in my house that need to be replaced and I will absolutely be purchasing the 1601 hardware again. Make sure you get the right hinges for the weight of your door - this is for doors 30 lbs or less. On the Johnson website they also sell mortise hinges for heavier doors. Highly recommend if you don’t want to install tracks in your header or floor. ... show more

  • Awful instructions
Size: 24"-36"
Terrible instructions. Once I got them up the doors pop open. Also, whhhyyyyyy orange hinges?? I am going to replace them with regular hinges so they don't look so bad. Maybe then the doors won't pop open? We shall see but this has been a bad experience.

  • Why aren’t these used more often!
Size: 24"-36"
The instructions are a little hard to follow, but with patience and double checking, I was able to follow them. I only needed one arm as I had 1-24” door to put up. Since it is the door to our bathroom, using a typical bifold door setup takes 2” from an already tiny door opening. With this setup, we are able to open the door all the way and not have 2” taken away. Thinking about changing out our other bifold doors to this. ... show more
