The Janome 5300QDC was super easy to setup right out the package for me but I think it might be due to the fact that my previous machine was also made by Janome. I absolutely adore this machine! My favorite features are auto-needle down, automatic thread cutter, the knee lifter and magnifying glasses. The only thing that I’m not a fan of is the automatic needle threader as it is way more difficult to use than the one on my previous Janome which cost much less. The machine is easy to use, and runs smoothly. I can tell that I'm going to get a lot of years of use out of it. ... show more

This is a truly wonderful machine. Sews so smooth, so many stitches to choose from, auto thread cutter, auto needle down position, knee lifter, sew with or without the foot pedal! And this does have the extra height on the presser foot, you just lift it up from its up position to get the extra height needed for thick fabrics. Some reviews said there isn't one but they are mistaken. I can't wait to start my quilt! I have my blocks ready to sew. I started out sewing on my old singer, trying to make masks during the pandemic, and what a nightmare. I got a Janome sewist721 mechanical machine and I literally cried it was so much better than my singer. (they are only $299.00 on Amazon right now for anyone who wants a great mechanical machine) But I wanted this for the extra stitches, all the wonderful features it has. Seller gave me an unexpected upgrade to a Janome 5300QDC. I was skeptical at first because I specifically ordered the 4300QDC-B for the quilting attachment kit. Happily, the 5300 also had the quilting kit! The two machines are very similar. I am moving up from a Bernette 60. While I love my Bernette, I am no longer a beginner quilter and wanted more advanced technology. This wonderfully priced Janome has every option I could want and many I don't even know I want yet! By far the feature that has made the most difference for me is the auto thread cutter. Saves time and thread! I also LOVE that I can see my bobbin and that I can wind a new bobbin while the machine is still threaded. While I appreciate the knee lift, I would not have made that a big factor in picking a machine. The one con I have found so far, and I have not used most of the features yet, is the needle threader. I have not yet figured it out. YouTube is my friend. I think I would have been very happy with the 4300QDC-B, but am extremely satisfied with the 5300QDC. ... show more

So I read & re read about which machine to buy when spending so much money. I’m new to quilting & didn’t want to regret my decision. Going to a store to get advice wasn’t an option during this pandemic So after many days & much deliberation I decided on this one. Although new to quilting I am not new to sewing so I know my way around a machine & had a wish list for my new one, that being said it did not tick every box for me but without spending a couple of thousand to tick all the boxes this one does so much & more. For the price you get the all the quilting feet included which can soon add up if you buy them separately. Unfortunately in my box the 1/4 seam foot was the wrong one for the machine so I ordered it separately from amazon. This machine is very easy to use I love the extended work space & extra room at the throat, I have even tried free motion quilting with success.     • Doesn't allow for extra clearance under the foot fir positioning thick fabrics
Overall the machine is pretty nice and has some nice features you would expect on a machine of this price range. However, it lacks something even $100 Singers have, the ability to add more clearance under the presser foot by pushing up on the presser foot lever. This may seem like a small thing but when you you have to fight to get 2 layers of fleece and 2 of Jersey under the needle, it's a deal breaker, I sent it back. I researched Janome machines for a very long time. I ordered the Janome 4300QCD. I was so surprised to open my box and find an upgrade to the 5300!!! It was like winning the lottery!! I’m so excited to start working with my beautiful new machine. Thank you, to the seller, for the amazing upgrade.
