These speakers are the absolute best deal in home theatre/hifi. Hands down. Nothing has price to performance like jamo studio series. The 801 is a perfect desk speaker, that's where I'll be using them. And the 803 and 81 will work great for a 3.1 tv set up. I have them pictured here with a triangle bro3. I can hear the differences between them but I had some family members do a blind test between the 801, 803, and bro3's. No one guessed a single speaker, so if you're not already into hifi save you're money and get these. If you are into hifi these would be killer for a secondary or bedroom set up. Very pleased with these speakers. Edited to add: I purchased these when the price was $170. At the current price of over $500 they are not worth it. ... show more

I compared several bookshelf speakers, including the following models Jamo s803 Elac b6.2 Q acoustics 3020 Triangle borea br03 Jbl studio 530 Jbl a130 Klipsch rp-500m Speaker ratings are highly subjective so I will just share that my personal taste in audio favors detailed, airy highs, clear midrange, and extended, but not necessarily punchy, low-end. Overall, soundwise I found the triangles to match my ideal most closely (wirecutter also rated them the highest), but they ended up being too big for my bookshelf. After the triangles the jamos were the closest match to my ideal (and were 1/3 the price) so I ended up with those. The qas were compelling as they had probably the best midrange clarity, but they sounded really strange with tv and film content. I was a little underwhelmed by the Elacs and jbls. Side note: I've read the research on human preferences for speaker characteristics. There is a study about people preferring neutral speakers that is shared on the audio forums a lot. However that study is not a scientific study. It's based on a poll of a highly biased population of audio professionals, rather than based on a random sample of the population. So it cannot be concluded from that study what speaker characteristics will be preferred by the average person. And there is other data that suggests most people prefer speakers with U-shaped sound (which is why so many mass-market speakers and audio systems have some kind of bass boost feature, and almost all audio systems have treble and bass adjustments and not a 'neutrality' adjustment). For example, I found the objective ratings on audiosciencereview.com to be essentially useless in predicting which speakers I would like (I started out 100% convinced the objective ratings and speaker neutrality would be the best guide). What all of this reinforces is that audio preferences are a subjective matter. Side note: you can often find better deals on some of these models on woot.com which is owned by amazon (and ships through amazon).     • Is the price a mistake?

Very satisfied with these speakers. I was looking for an upgrade for a long time but didn't want to spend thousands. There are brands out there whose single floor speaker is 4 times the price of this set. Granted, the quality is better, but at full volume these are immersive. I have these paired with the Atmos speakers which lock in perfectly on top of the front speakers, and a Klipsch subwoofer. I am blow away by the quality. If you buy the set separated the price is nearly double. So yes, if you're thinking about getting these, stop thinking. Just buy them. ... show more

These sound much bigger then what they are, and punch well above the weight and price class. Bought these on a gamble to update my current speaker set. Definitely recommend this while pricing lasts.

    • My first "high end" set of speakers and love them

I had already gotten the larger tower speakers from the same Jamo series and was enjoying them and when this set went on sale I had to grab them. I really needed the center and surround channels but buying the whole kit here was a better deal than buying them individually. I am replacing nearly 20 year old sony speakers that came from a stereo system with these speakers and I am blown away with the sound detail and quality with just the three front channels. I still have to run the wiring for the surrounds and height. I will be using the larger bookshelfs for the surrounds and the smaller bookshelfs mounted on the ceiling for the height in a atmos set up. I can't wait to hear what that sounds like! the details are so crisp and I am hearing details in movies and music I have never heard before as well as in places I have never heard before just with the front three channels. I do have a high quality denon amplifier as well as a good sub already and this set up rocks! ... show more
