  • Updated update: NO LONGER Love this device!
WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN? ***UPDATED *** NOPE! PROS: * Works consistently ... ****FOR ABOUT A WEEK OR TWO UNTIL THE BATTERY DIES***. UPDATED UPDATE: That's about all you need to know. The first one worked well, but after that they both stopped working. I replaced the batteries with high-quality ones I use in some of my flashlights, but they didn't last more than a week. So ... nice concept, poor implementation. EVERYTHING BELOW DOESN'T REALLY MATTER. :( --------------------------- * Very small, was able to fit in a tight location. * Near instant notifications. * If the app is closed, you can select any notification tone needed. * Can be connected via Google Assistant and IFTTT, plus other systems. * The iView software is extensive and can connect to hundreds of other smart devices - I never even knew about this! * Customer support was GREAT. I emailed them asking about the notifications, and while they pointed out there was nothing they could do at this point they understood my use case. They had designed it to perform only as an alarm. I pointed out that I wanted it to monitor my kids, and Jenny said she would let the designers know to allow changing the notifications in the app. I was very happy with this. CONS: * The setup can be a little intimidating, but if you're not technical you probably aren't looking at things like this right? * The included CR2 battery did not last more than 2 months. I am not sure if that is the fault of the battery, or due to normal usage. I am not sure if there was a low battery notification either, I have to look into that. * The manual is tiny. I bought this a few months ago to keep tabs on my basement sliding glass door. Many times my kids would go play in the backyard, but would either leave the door open or go outside when they were not allowed to ... like in the middle of a huge rainstorm ... and would come back tracking mud through the entire house. The worst was they would leave the sliding door wide open when they came in for the day, and leave the basement lights on. I'd come down in the morning to find the door open, and the basement FILLED WITH BUGS. I mean at least 200 bugs of every kind. Mosquitoes, moths, gnats, flies, spiders, beetles, you name it. Worse it rained overnight and I came down to a carpet that was soaked at least 10 feet into the basement! I had to go rent a big fan to dry it out. UGH! No more! This was a pretty simple setup if you take your time. The manual is SO small the first thing I did was to find an online manual, which is at this location: iviewus.com / download / manual / S100-Manual.pdf Here's what I had to do to make this work: 1. Per the directions, I had to change the security mode of my router. I simply went in to my router setup and found my settings. I happened to be using a different mode, so I changed it as recommended. There were no ill effects on any of my other network devices (and I have 30+!). > Set encryption method as WPA2-PSK and authorization type as AES, or set both as auto. Wireless mode *cannot* be 11n only. 2. Ensure your phone is connected via the 2.4Ghz channel only. I did this on my Android by pressing and holding the wifi icon, then going into my network connections, and making sure I was connected to the 2.4Ghz channel of my router and not the 5Ghz channel. 3. I then downloaded the iView Home app from the Play store and installed it. Then you go into the iView Home phone application and add the new device. 4. IMPORTANT - you MUST select "Sensor" which is nearly at the bottom of the list. 5. Follow the directions - enter your network name and password, click next. 6. Then find your sensor. There is a tiny hidden push tab on the thin edge. Use your finger and gently press it down and then lift the cover off. With the cover off, press and hold the reset button until the light starts flashing - about 5 seconds. 7. Press the confirm button on the app. In less than 15 seconds it was added and working. 8. Install where ever you want. One requirement for me was to be able to fit this in a small spot. I have only a tiny area that it can fit, and many of the other sensors I looked at were huge by comparison. This fit super nicely. At first I discovered the app would play a horrible loud alarm noise - almost like a burglar alarm - which was incredibly jarring and inappropriate. There was no way I would want it going off during the day, let alone night. However, I discovered that alert only sounds if the app is open and on the screen. As soon as you shut the phone app down (even close it) you will get a notification from the app which uses your PHONE notification. On my Android phone, I can simply pull down the last alerts, find the iView app, then go into the Notification Properties, and I picked an alert sound I liked. Now when my kids open the door I get a nice chime of my own picking. If needed, I can open the app to see the status of the door - open or closed - which is great. This really works for me because at least twice a week the kids would leave the door open all night, and now it's simple for me to know what is up. Our house has 3 stories, so if I am upstairs in bed the last thing I want to do is walk down two flights of stairs simply to see if a door is open or not. ... show more

  • Great alarm for security despite needing a little work
I'm ordering more. Once I got 4 up and running, I loved it. The cons... The instructions are unorganized. There also needs to be better instructions for putting them on doors. Make sure the dimple of the larger piece meets up with the dimple on the smaller piece. I put two up only to find that I had the smaller piece turned wrong so it showed the door was "open" when I had it close . I tried cameras on my house but bugs kept setting the alarms off on those and I couldn't stand to leave the camera alarms on anymore. These door sensors are the solution to my problem. I put them on my areas of concern and its so great to get notifications on my phone if a door is opened. When I put the very first sensor up, the app made an alarm sound that came straight from the app... It was nice and loud. After I got all 4 sensors up, the alarm sound changed to my default sound on my phone. However I don't know what caused it to change as I liked the louder alarm. That is another problem I'm trying to figure out. It needs work, but does what it is supposed to once you figure everything out. ... show more

  • Definite security notifications
I put these on my interior doors so I'd know if someone came about while I was at work. They are very annoying when I and kids are actually at home. However, they do what they're supposed to do. I got an alarm while I was at work, my garage door was opened. When I got home it was found to be a loosely shut interior door that popped open an inch. These are simple, inexpensive, tiny little widgets that do what they're intended to do. Maybe one false alarm, but that was probably network latency. If I had a product criticism, it would be that this product could use a "global disarm" button on the app to turn all the alerts off when you are home. I think otherwise these are pretty good devices to tell you when your doors open when you're not around. ... show more

  • Garbage - stay away!
I bought four of these like an idiot. I should have bought one to try it out. Well, shame on me. I bought them, fittingly, on April 1st. Of the four, one is still working, one worked for a bit but is now indicating that it's offline or something, one said the door was open when it was well closed and closed when it was open and the last one might as well have been a rock. It didn't work from the get-go. They're supposed to give you an alert when something is open? Well, I never got an alert. I had to check my phone every now and then to see what was up. These are absolutely worthless - a complete waste of time and money. They look cool, though. ... show more

  • Complete waste of money.
This does not work as advertised. To begin, it does not send any kind of notification to the app when the sensor senses a movement. I have it on my liquor cabinet door and while the app initially showed the door was opened or closed, I received no notification. I reached out to customer support and got no solid response. And to make things worse, less than a month after owning the device, the app shows that the “device is offline.” No idea why. I’ve already spent too much time trying to make this thing work. It’s going in the garbage. ... show more
