I bought these almost two years ago. If you are a pet owner, especially large breed, (I have a Great Pyrennes) you can't beat them. The top is activated by movement and when it automatically opens and hits their nose they are done! Actually it took my dog twice but I don't think she believed it the first time. No odor...I change the charcoal pods every 6 months. It holds a lot more then you think and goes with my others stainless steel appliances. Very attractive and guests really like it too. When I'm cooking and my hands are a mess, I just hold them over the detector and throw my stuff away. Don't have to touch it. The small one goes in my bathroom and also works great. I love them both!! Great buys!!

My first automatic trash can. I got the 13 gallon for the kitchen and the 4-gallon for the bathroom. They work perfectly. I really like the ac adapter for the 13-gallon can.

The unit worked well at the beginning, until the lid broke and would not open! To make matters worse, it is not possible to purchase just the lid, so I have replaced the entire top assembly, THREE times. I have assumed/hoped they would have improved the design, but that is not the case. Instead of improvements, the company has continued to increase the price of the assembly, from $45 in 2020, to $60 in 2022, and now to $70 in 2024 on Amazon!

I have had an old style trash can which worked by a foot pedal. That was fine but the system was much heavier than this one. I like that it takes up less space and is much simpler to change the bags. The plastic rim that holds the bag in place is such a breakthrough! LOL I used to cut the red plastic tie and RE-TIE it to keep the bag in place! I can see with the simplicity of the design, that cleaning the lid will be way easier than my old can. My old can's frame would collect food splatters and crumbs..yuck! This was worth the upgrade. ;-))

While this trash can seems smaller than my similar one that I had to replace, the smaller size is not really the issue that bugs me. What I have a problem with is the fact that the motion detector does not work very well. One has to nearly put your hand or other solid object right up on top of the sensor before it will trigger the lid to open. Usually, I end up having the lid hit my hand or the solid object as soon as it opens because my hand is so close to the lid just to trigger it. In some ways, it negates the whole idea of the motion detection feature because if you try to trigger it by holding your hand or an object six inches away from the can, it will not trigger it to open. You must be between an inch or two of the can to get it to trigger the lid to open. That's why the lid, which opens rather quickly, ends up striking you before you can move your hand out of the way. So if you have to put your hand so close to the lid of the can to get it to open, you might as well go ahead and press the button to open the lid. The motion detector just doesn't work well, and sometimes, even when you try to trigger it from up close, it still does not open the lid. I have on a few occasions had to press the open button just so I could get the garbage in my hands into the trash can. I have no patience for devices that do not work as they are purported to work in their product description. This one is not that responsive and the range of the motion detection ability is so limited, it almost makes it not worth the effort -- and therefore, not worth the purchase price. I would not buy it again.
