Features

  • The Original Waterrower - Handcrafted and Built to Last: Designed in the mid '80s by Yale and US National Team Rower John Duke. WaterRower continues to combine stylish design, handcrafted workmanship, our unique WaterFlywheel resistance and ethically sourced materials create the world's finest rowing simulator
  • Made in the USA - Hand-built in Rhode Island; all timber used in the manufacture of wooden WaterRower rowing machines is sourced from sustainably managed hardwood forests in the Appalachian Mountains. The Cherry rowing machine is handcrafted in solid cherry wood.
  • Smooth - Water rowers use a water-filled flywheel to provide resistance as you row. The resistance is created by the paddle-like blades of the flywheel moving through the water, creating a smooth and natural resistance that closely resembles the feeling of rowing on water. Like water, the harder you fight, the more resistance you get
  • Burn calories in short time - There are many benefits to rowing. It is a low impact cardiovascular exercise that puts less stress on your joints. Full body workout that includes your legs, core, back and arms. Perfect for all fitness levels. This water rowing machine targets all major muscle groups (84 percent of total muscle mass)
  • Dimensions - 82" L x 20" H x 22" W / weight: 103.5 lbs (with water). Easily store it on end

Description

The WaterRower Oxbridge is handcrafted from solid Cherry wood, finished with danish oil. The WaterRower's patented WaterFlywheel has been specifically designed to emulate the dynamics of a boat moving though water and is unsurpassed in its simulation of the physical and physiological benefits of rowing. WaterRower will not provide support or documentation for any product transported outside of the original country of purchase Rowing has long been recognized as the perfect aerobic pursuit, with naturally smooth and flowing movements that don't tax the joints but do boost the heart rate. Now you can take your rowing experience to the next level with the WaterRower Oxbridge rowing machine. Using the same principles that govern the dynamics of a boat in water, the WaterRower Oxbridge is outfitted with a "water flywheel" that consists of two paddles in an enclosed tank of water that provide smooth, quiet resistance, just like the paddles in an actual body of water. As a result, the machine has no moving parts that can wear out over time (even the recoil belt and pulleys don't require lubricating or maintaining). More significantly, the water tank and flywheel create a self- regulating resistance system that eliminates the need for a motor. As with real rowing, when you paddle faster, the increased drag provides more resistance. When you paddle slower, the resistance is less intense. The only limit to how fast you can row is your strength and your ability to overcome drag. And unlike conventional rowing machines, which tend to be jerky and jarring, the WaterRower Oxbridge is remarkably smooth and fluid. From a fitness perspective, the WaterRower Oxbridge works 84 percent of your muscle mass, helping tone and strengthen your muscles while burning far more calories than most other aerobic machines. The exercise is also low impact, as it removes all the body weight from the ankles, knees, and hips, but still moves the limbs and joints through a full range of motion--from completely extended to completely contracted. The WaterRower Oxbridge is outfitted with a Series 4 performance monitor that's designed to balance technical sophistication with user-friendliness. The monitor--which includes six information and programming windows, six QuickSelection buttons, and three navigation buttons--displays your workout intensity, stroke rate, heart rate, zone bar, duration, and distance. Plus, the monitor is compatible with an optional heart rate chest strap and receiver, which helps you optimize your workout and achieve your exercise objectives. The WaterRower Oxbridge is handcrafted in solid cherry wood, which may vary in color from red/brown to deep red and will darken with exposure to light. For this reason, all WaterRower cherry wood components are kept in light-free rooms to protect from shadowing before being sold to the public. Initially, a new WaterRower Oxbridge will appear quite light in color, but will darken over time until it reaches a rich reddish hue. The cherry wood was chosen due to its marvelous engineering properties, especially its ability to absorb sound and vibration, which enhances the WaterRower's quiet performance and smooth operation. In addition, the wood is harvested from replenishable forests and is hand finished with three coats of Danish oil to give it a deep luster and warmth. Other details include dual rails with four corner wheels that increase seat stability and reduce the amount of sweat buildup; a frame that flips upright for handy storage; and a weight capacity of up to 1,000 pounds. The WaterRower Oxbridge measures 84 by 21 by 22 inches (W x H x D), weighs 117 pounds (with water), and carries a one-year warranty on the frame and components (WaterRower will upgrade the warranty to five years on the frame and three years on the components with the completion of a registration form).

  • I love it
Color: Lo-Rise
I’m a rower and I competed professionally. The stroke is great for a machine, with good catch and very nice feelings. Design is really home-friendly and the noise is minimal. My daughters sleep through it. Only “catch”? compared to the athlete’s standard (which i’m not naming) the speed is a bit of a cheat.. meaning: on the screen numbers are better than they should be. But tbh every company has a different standard, so I’m not sure who is right. Regardless Good for the morale!! ... show more

  • This rower is both beautiful and highly functional.
Color: Hi-Rise
I love this rower...it’s beautiful enough to put in my bedroom where I use it most mornings and evenings. The gentle whoosh of the water is very relaxing yet the workout is rigorous. It’s incredibly well made and very easy to put together. I recommend getting the risers to make it easier to get on and off. ... show more

  • Excellent rower for home Excellent rower for home
Color: Lo-Rise
I’ve owned two of these and have built and rebuilt them. The first one was purchased from a divorcee selling their ex’s unit – it was completely disassembled, including all pulleys, etc… everything was in a box except the boards. I had to figure it all out like some giant puzzle. Quite the introduction, but I actually enjoy challenges like this, and it served to teach me a lot about the rower. That knowledge came in handy, as the tank on both of my used rowers had cracked at the tank opening on top before I bought them. They were still operable, but eventually the cracks got worse and water leaked a bit when the rower was stored upright. The company sells a tank re-glue kit as well as replacement tanks. I wasn’t about to buy a complete tank (it cost almost what I paid for the rowers), and the new ones use plastic paddles in the tank – I much prefer old the metal ones, but that’s just me… the plastic ones are probably fine. I repaired the tank instead, using polycarbonate plastic from Home Depot, a jig saw, and 3M marine adhesive. The repair has held up wonderfully, and it actually looks better in my opinion (the black adhesive matches the overall look… see the pic). The tank seal kit from WaterRower works, but is a bit tricky… you have to cut the existing seal (it’s rubbery) with a box cutter, remove all the old seal, and carefully inject the new seal material, which takes a bit of care and patience. When done carefully, it looks and works great. So if you’re getting the impression that these machines take a certain amount of care and technical skill to maintain, that’s somewhat true. But keep in mind that I bought old units that were already in disrepair… if you buy a new unit and treat it well, you’ll likely not need to worry. These machines are truly built well. The best aspect of the device is that is is MUCH quieter than others, especially the chain-driven Concept II machines. The sound is a whooshing of water that is pleasant and much more appropriate for a rower. The worst aspect of the device is the electronic feedback, especially for older machines (mine are model III), but even for newer ones. There is a hardware modification available called SmartRow that replaces the old sensor apparatus with a new one that sends Bluetooth signals to your phone or tablet for use with their app (which doesn’t use your personal data like many rowing apps). This is much better, but still less than what other systems offer. I’m a simple guy, so the basic electronics work for me. I have mine set to count down a given distance while monitoring average meters per second and elapsed time I really don’t care if it’s accurate – it’s just feedback that I use to push myself. In the end, it’s the rowing that matters most. Rowing indoors is pretty boring, and requires an effort and dedication that is greater than biking or walking/running on a treadmill. But it’s a fantastic exercise for the entire body (arguably the best), and if you focus on proper technique and set your own goals, you’ll be fine. As for the boredom, get a TV or an iPad and watch some comedy, sports, music videos, anything that’s lively and not too interesting – your focus needs to be on your form. There are a lot of used rowers available because most of us don’t have the dedication to work at something like this. If you have the dedication, you’ll be greatly rewarded – the best fitness I’ve ever achieved involved regular rowing sessions – it really does work your entire body in a fantastic way, and is great for your heart. If you stick with it, you’ll lose weight, gain strength and endurance, and honestly feel 10 years younger… I certainly did. The WaterRower is my choice for home use, despite some drawbacks. I’ve used Concept machines at the gym and haven’t enjoyed them nearly as much as the WaterRower at home. It can be a bit mechanically fussy, but so can all rowers (the Concept II machines at my local gym are often malfunctioning or out of order entirely). If mine were to break beyond repair (they’re both about 15 years old with heavy usage), I would not hesitate to buy another one – I think there’s nothing better for indoor rowing at home. ... show more
