  • Solar works fine
Color: White Size: 1 Pack Configuration: Battery
Keeping my original review post from two years ago, and hopefully correcting the record here. I discovered the issue was nothing Ring did. It was an incorrect setup from a mistake on my end using a third-party USB-C solar panel. Get and use a Ring solar panel, it works just fine and keeps the camera batteries completely charged. I have not had to remove and charge the batteries manually since installing the correct solar panel. Following is my original review, which is completely inaccurate and unfair: If you are looking to keep the power levels nominal with solar charging, don't bother. It does not work at all. I have tried all the steps listed in the Ring community forums, which includes unplug and re-plug it in, remove and re-add to your account, reset the camera, make sure the camera firmware is up to date, make sure it is connected to WiFi, make sure it is in direct sunlight. When I chatted with Ring customer service they told me there is nothing they can do and I might try calling their tech support team. The solar function is completely useless; it has never indicated anything except "Not Connected" in the app and so the battery drains in a week. Save your money and buy something that will actually work. ... show more

  • Pretty Solid Camera Pretty Solid Camera
Color: White Size: 1 Pack Configuration: Battery
Spotlight Cam Pro is, so far, a good camera with some nice features. Installing it was rather simple. When you setup the camera, you just scan the QR label with your phone and follow the steps. The spotlight feature is pretty useful for smaller areas, but it won't light up a large area. You'd probably need the Floodlight Cam Pro if you need to add light to a larger area, but those need to be hardwired to function. The audio recording is pretty good, it picks up voices and footsteps from 20ft away. The video quality is nice too, it's not 4k but the 1080p is still good. The birdseye view works, although I don't quite understand the full scope of what it could be used for. Also, the Pre Roll function is strange. It pre records motion, but the quality is like that of a Playstation 1. Super grainy and pixilated. And once the "Pre Roll" ends, the quality clears up. But at that time, the person or vehicle or whatever caused the recording to begin is too far away to be recorded in good quality. So, again, I don't quite understand what the "Pre Roll" function is useful for. These cameras also come with Enhanced Colored Nightvision and HDR. I can't say I'm super thrilled with the way these cameras handle the light. It's dusk at this very moment, and there's still some light in the sky, but the Pro cameras are already in Nightvision mode while a couple other Camera Plus cameras I own still show a colored Live View. I included pictures of the Pro Cam and my Video Doorbell Plus, at the same in the evening, and you'll see what I'm referring to. You can set schedules for camera motion and the cameras lights, and you can also create light groups if you want to turn on certain lights on certain cameras. So I have 2 Cam Pros on the front of my house in a group, so I can turn on those cams lights independently of the other cameras I have installed in the back of my house. Then I have the rear house cams in a group to turn them on at the same time if necessary. You can talk to people through the camera as well, just like with the Ring Doorbells. There is also an alarm you can activate if you ever need. There is also an Emergency Services function in which you can call police or the fire department through the Ring app, in case you witness anything on your property that requires an emergency response. One thing I noticed, which may or may not mean much, is the boxes in which the Spotlight Cam Pros came in. One of the boxes is fancier. All the lettering is silver, and raised, the blue background used for text is darker, and it has the signature of the inventor on the side of the box while the others don't. So I don't really know if that means anything. I don't know if the cameras have anything different going on internally in terms of the quality of hardware used or if it means one camera is older and/or newer than the others or what. Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase of all these cameras along with the Ring Doorbell Plus. They're all functioning the way they were meant to and I would recommend them to anyone trying to add some protection to their homes. ... show more

Love the Ring equipment. Price was excellent and installation was simple and quick. Had for two years and no issues. Bought the hardwire components to eliminate replacing batteries.

  • Works Well Works Well
Color: White Size: 1 Pack Configuration: Battery
I chose the Ring Spotlight Cam because I already am using a Ring doorbell cam, and it has worked well. I am using the Spotlight Cam to view our backyard, so we have views of both front and back now. I chose the battery-operated model so it would be easier to move it around and select the best location. Linking the Spotlight Cam to my Ring app was easy. Setting up a perimeter for it was easy, too. And it does a good job of detecting motion, from small animals to people. The only issue I had was the mounting method. The base provides plenty of flexibility, and so the camera can be mounted on a wall or suspended from a ceiling, soffit, or other horizontal surface. But the collar set screw was difficult to use, mainly because it was glued in place. I assume that is for security purposes, so no one can steal the camera. But because it was so hard to screw in or out, I chose to use a hose clamp to secure the camera to the mount, as shown in the attached photo. That was much easier. Battery life is a minor issue. 10 days after I first installed the camera, the Ring app saaid that it only had 3% charge left. Of course, it was -10F outside then, and that is not good for batteries. It is easy enough to recharge the battery with the included cable and any standard USB charger. But the camera also has provision to use two batteries, so bought another battery. One good feature is that the camera uses one battery at a time, so when one gets down to 50% or less, then I recharge it while the camera runs off the second battery. Finally, my Ring doorbell came with a free one-year trial of the Ring Protect basic plan. And it automatically included the backyard camera when I installed it. You need that plan to be able to go back and review events that triggered a notification. Without that ability, it is not near as useful. So, I have renewed that service for both devices. The cost is a little steep at $40/year per device, so in my case it is $80 per year. ... show more

  • Protection that give you some comfort
Color: White Size: 1 Pack Configuration: Battery
Newer version of my previous cam. Setup took all of 4 minutes and connected to network. Video is a bit clearer than previous cam which died in a little over 1 1/2 years. I use the 2 batteries plus the AC USB plug and have not need to change batteries in over 8 months prior. I have it checking snapshots every three minutes. Rarely misses anything. new AI facial detection works very weak for family and pets, yes will ID our dog correctly. Even occasionally ID a rabbit or a bird correctly. Very pleased with Ring cams and it does offer a buffer between you and the "bad" persons who know they are watched. ... show more

  • difficult to install and or add change out the battery..
Color: White Size: 1 Pack Configuration: Battery
1. range is not that great 2. good luck replacing the battery! 3. not as easy as they say to install and set up... 4. the battery compartment, you know the part you have to remove in order to get to the battery it is extremely yes EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. AND SERIOUSLY if you don't have issues with your hand and wrist, YOU WILL NOW! TOOK 3 people i kid you not, to remove the cover and then here again GOOD LUCK getting the battery out to replace it. (and it had nothing to do with the set screw) Not to mention while you are trying to remove the cover to get the battery out, THE UNIT COMES OUT, so it's not just twist and turn to remove the battery cover, you end up having to reinstall it back into onto the base. Also, once if you ever get the battery out, now you HAVE TO REPOSITION IT to where you had the angle set for viewing to in the first place, oh and now you also have to wipe it clean because camera part is now dirty from all that handling of the unit to get the battery out and then have to reposition it to where you had or want it to be for perfect viewing. AND ANOTHER THING! seriously now, you get the camera hooked up, battery installed etc. and now you have push the set up button and where is that set up button? ON THE TOP, where else would it be.. of course in a hard to get to area specially if you have it set up high, and now you need the ladder, oh wait, it's kinda close to the roof or over hang because that was the best spot, but NOW YOU HAVE TO REMOVE IT FROM THE BASE, in order to find the setup / reset button to push so you can either set up or RESET the camera! NOW if I had an outlet or what ever to hard wire this in, I would have but then again I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED A RING! in the first place! Reliability? NOT really video quality ??? so so would i recommend this product? NOPE not in a million years.!!!!!!!!! because of this one product... and WHERE IS THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT ON THIS?????? it's an AI bot assistant.. NO LIVE PERSON AND what is with the "pre roll" it's a useless feature, not needed! RING DID NOT THINK THIS ALL THE WAY THROUGH HERE.... THEY NEED TO GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD.. ... show more

  • Great little security camera
Well made and lights up my side yard. I like that it has an extra battery compartment so I can set the video quality higher. The videos are sharp and in color, even at night. So far I’ve been really happy with the Ring security cameras and like that I only have to go into one app when I get an alert. ... show more
