I have been looking at video doorbells for a number of years, and have always found a reason to hold off buying them. Part of my reasoning is I already have Blink XT2 security cameras, I already have a number of Alexa devices, why would I want to add one more infrastructure to my smart home environment? Then I saw that Blink finally released their version of a video doorbell and it was able to connect to both the old Blink sync module (I have one of the old ones and have one of the free 2hours storage accounts pre-2020) and the newer Sync 2 modules, as well as connect to Alexa to do a number of things. Let's start the with basics. Installation is pretty simple, they even include a template to mark the wall for drilling and mounting. Two screws to mount the bracket to the wall. I also used a 30˚ bracket in addition to the standard back plate which comes with no directions but it is pretty simple to figure out. The system will allow you to connect to existing doorbell (16v - 24v) wiring if you have an existing doorbell chime, which I did not. Once you have the back plate mounted you can then hang the doorbell. NOTE: Do not mount the door bell until after you have added it to your Sync module and your Blink app since you will need the barcode on the back in order to join it. Adding the doorbell to the mount does require you apply pressure towards the back plate, and then slide it down about 1/32" to lock it into place. There are a number of reasons for this, including there is a gasket between the doorbell and the back plate that is there to keep moisture out, and you need to compress this while you slide it into place. Once you have it up and running you can add it to your Alexa devices using the Blink Skill and use any Echo to work as your doorbell chime. I originally enabled them all realized that it made sense to only have a few of them respond when the doorbell is pushed because it was very jarring to have every room in my house blasting with a chime and the announcement of "Someone is at Your Front Door". Also if you have an Echo Show you can preview the doorbell, and any of the other cameras on the display screen. Overall the video and audio quality is good for what it is, and the Android app works perfectly with the devices. It is easy to view recorded interactions, and download the files from the cloud to the phone. After installing this at my house I also added one with a Sync 2 module at my girlfriends house, and she loved the benefits of having one, which all prompted her to have me add two more security cameras. I would highly recommend this system, keeping in mind the following: - You need to have a Sync module to make this actually work because of how the video is accessed. - You do not need a preexisting doorbell chime and transformer, but if you have one you can hook into it. - If you do not have a doorbell Chime can use an Amazon Echo device to work as one if not you will only get the notifications on your phone. - No mater how you hook it up, you will need to have the batteries installed to power the camera, and currently there is no way to hardware and power the system even if it is hooked up to a doorbell transformer.

We purchased our first Blink Home Security Camera July of 2018. We were going out of the country and wanted to make sure our 18 year old son closed the garage door and locked the house. It did the job and we felt better knowing while on the other side of the world we could monitor our home. The following Summer we were so happy with our indoor system, we decided to purchase 2 outdoor cameras with the 2 way audio, and were so happy with the video and audio quality, we bought another add on outdoor camera, the next month. A year later we found the mini indoor cameras. We have one for a child's bedroom and one for the playroom. The video and audio quality is great. A year after that we bought another 3 outdoor Cameras, again video and audio quality is great. Just before Christmas 2021 Blink came out with the doorbell camera, and we purchased it. One, because it was blink and 1/2 the price of a ring doorbell camera. Two, because the doorbell that came with our new build home was so quiet, we couldn't ever hear the bell ring. Cons/irritations When an outdoor camera faces the sun at any point of the day, the motion detection will go off, until you adjust the motion activity spots in the camera settings. Sometimes it will go off when there is motion in the grayed out zones, and sometimes not go off in the non-greyed out zones. This maybe human error on our part. We are looking for a longer cord for the mini's to mount on the wall or ceiling. The are options to rotate the camera view, so that you are able to mount the camera wherever you need. Overall we are happy with our Blink system and hope the company continues to grow and come out with new products. Compared to my parents very very expensive Arlo system, Blink is more reliable, and is more cost-effective. So much so, my parents have ditched the Arlo camera system and have purchased a new Blink system. We highly recommend Blink to anyone who would like to have a home video camera system that works, and won't break the bank. We love that you can start out small and work your way in to as much as you want/need.

ALL of the Blink stuff I have ordered is getting this same review. After doing an insane amount of research for a home security camera system I settled on Blink for ease of set up and cost. In both of those areas there really isn't a close second. As far as reliability, I'll check in again in a year or two--but other reviews indicate reliability is good. So, good news: easy set-up, great prices, video quality is as good as any, motion sensors and other software adjustable stuff is easy to understand and do. Bad news: The system is crazy slow. I knew that going in, so it might be a bigger deal to you. I'm willing to live with it mostly--down the road I plan to put in a much faster, wired, real time system with only one or two cameras, and Blink has a new "Sync Module" that is supposed to have greater range--and maybe speed things up a bit. The slow is annoying...but not a deal breaker. It has notified me of low batteries a few times--so now I just let it go and they seem to recover on their own. I've also had one or two go offline and I had to reinstall them. I think there are two factors causing this, and again for the price I am willing to live with it. For one thing I have the wireless range maxed out even with an extender for my WiFi network. The other factor is it is currently the dead of Winter and cold beyond all reason. 9 degrees last night, high is 31 today. Lots of snow and wind, too. I'm harder to get along with in this weather myself, so I'll put up with some additional problems with electronics that live outside. Bottom line? After three months I'm happy with it and I recommend any and all of the parts of the system I've bought. It works as advertised and it's way cheap--including the annual subscription if you want cloud storage. I will be buying a couple more pieces soon. It is fully functional as long as you don't need a lot of speed. I'm talking about minutes when I’m antsy and want seconds.

This video doorbell was part of a set with 1 indoor camera and 1 outdoor camera installed in early December. Temps were mostly in the middle 30s F through the month though much warmer when I installed the cams. 3 weeks later temps dropped below freezing and the batteries in the doorbell cam showed low power. I finally replaced them 3 weeks later. Then temps dropped below zero F. The outdoor camera stats say -4 F for lowest temp. When temps dropped to -16 1 outdoor camera went offline but the doorbell cam still worked fine. But the batteries in the doorbell cam then showed low power. Only a few weeks! I waited for another 4 weeks and now the batteries in the doorbell cam show ok again. The lithium AA batteries say they are good down to below -50 F so don't know what that's about. The offline camera came back on when temps went back up over zero F. All is working fine now. Since the doorbell cam is pointing directly to the street it was motion triggering in every car that passed by. I finally now have it configured to reduce the sensitivity to enable longer battery life. The Blink camera system is working as expected. The only improvement I would like is that the motion detection range would be much father.

Oh boy where do I begin. I've had Blink for about 2 and a half years now, and that's 2 and a half years too long. The main thing that drove me to this in the first place was that I didn't have to hardwire anything, and setup was very easy. I could deal with paying a subscription in place of dealing with setup. I have 3 outside cameras, and one doorbell cam. Heres a list of problems I've had with it, but first I'll start with the pros. - Relatively affordable - Easy to install and setup - Pretty modest battery life. I did not use any solar options. - Links up with Alexa That's it. Every other "pro" I can think of isn't exclusive to this system. The bare minimum is not a pro, such as being waterproof or having notification snooze. Now lets start with the cons. - Absolutely AWFUL motion detection. It's honestly baffling. It can't spot a car going down the road which takes up a quarter of the camera but can spot a shadow of a tree branch moving a quarter of a mile away. Can't capture the mailman coming up to my door. Can't capture a car parking right in my driveway, AKA almost the entirety of my Driveway cam. Can't capture people walking on my front lawn. Oh! But it can capture a bug on the shed! Sometimes I get alerts and I see no movement at all. Straight up phantom recordings. I've played with the sensitivity, and there is no sweet spot between capturing actual movement and capturing literally nothing at all and alert spamming my phone. - Detection zones simply do not work. At my first house, I have the entirety of the road blocked off from detection, yet it captures every single car passing my house. I have just the bottom third of my doorbell camera not greyed out for visitors or people in my yard. (Can't capture them, though!) - MAJOR ISSUE - retrigger time. It has a MINIMUM of 10 seconds. What the F? Why is zero not an option? If someone is actually trespassing on my property and the recording stops, they have a 10 second window to do something or move somewhere and I am none the wiser. I've contacted Blink about this and they simply have no desire to reduce or remove this """feature""". These cameras could be 100% perfect, but having this feature would immediately make me discard these. I'm a moron for keeping them this long. - ANOTHER MAJOR ISSUE - The amount of time it takes to view a camera as I get an alert. Dude, I purchased a doorbell camera. I should immediately be able to view who's at my door the second I get the notification that it was rang or motion was detected. How long does it take, though? Roughly an entire minute. More than enough time for someone to think nobody is home and leave. Absolutely worthless piece of technology. What's the point of allowing someone to talk through the cameras when this is the response time? I should mention, my docking station is probably 15 feet away from the doorbell. - "End recording when movement stops". Yes please, sounds like a great way to get the maximum recording time. Except this feature also does not work. Not only will recording start when say, a deer, is standing in the middle of the camera's view (straight up disregarding any portion of the deer walking into frame. Sensitivity set to 9 btw!) but will end when the deer stays still for half a second, or even when the deer is still moving! My only other option is to set clip length to 60 sec which straight up kills the battery life. Sometimes I can get lucky and see the delivery guy walk up to my porch, but recording will end as he is still walking. Again, what the actual heck is wrong with this system. - This might be on me, but my storm door swung open on a particularly windy day, and hit my doorbell cam. The cam immediately broke and I can't be bothered to replace it because I don't even want it anymore. May I also say my storm door is captured by a spring so I can't imagine it even hit the camera particularly hard. So that's it. Nearly everything this camera system has to offer just sucks or flat out does not work. There has been only one time in my entire time owning them where I was glad I had it, but even then I was blessed with it's pitfalls and discouraged that I could not have a longer clip. I moved, and brought the cameras with me as a temporary solution while I hardwire my house with CAT6 and get some proper security cameras. I don't even know what to do with these Blink ones when I get new cams. They're fun for capturing animals that sit 3 feet in front of the camera, but horrible for capturing humans, the entire reason why I bought these. I highly highly discourage anyone from buying these, and Blink/Amazon should be ashamed of this product.

Cons: My battery on my doorbell was low. I believe I’ve have this for 2-3 months so I guess that pretty decent but!! The battery may not last that long if you are always peeping/talking through it at all or most times there is motion or if the setting are set to where it’ll drain the battery more. Anywho, the batteries were apparently low or dead. The doorbell wouldn’t record motion all the time and at a certain point it just stopped working. It was acting weird for about 2-3 days recording maybe 2/10 times there was motion but the app said it was online and the battery life was “ok”. It says “online” even though the camera was nkt operating at all. It wasn’t ringing when. I pressed the button nor was it detecting or recording anything. I thought something was wrong with it because the app didn’t reflect what the real issue was which was literally just dead or dying batteries apparently. You need the sync module 2($34.99 does not include storage you’ll have to buy a usb storage drive separately up to 256GB from what I believe to have read) if you want to be able to see live footage or speak live through the camera. You can do those things with the sync module 2 and the subscription. I don’t have a sync module 2 so I can only see recorded motion which it is triggered by motion or the doorbell being rang. No footage will be recorded w/o a sync module 2 and/or a subscription. You have to rang the doorbell after each time you click save in settings in order to put those new settings in place. So be prepared for that. Microphone makes a weird buzzing sound sometimes. I think after a few seconds of recording that’s when it kicks in. For the price of $29.99 w/ tax(I got it on sale it is showing it usually goes for $59.99), I can’t complain too much. This is one of the most affordable wireless doorbells out right now. I know it’s the norm now but a con to be is the subscription. Without a subscription you’re pretty limited on what you can do. You might as well not buy one unless you plan on getting that. $3 a month for 1 camera and $10 a month for 1 or more. Gotta have a sync module two for you to be able to hear the doorbell ring through the speakers on your other cameras if you have em. Does not always catch the motion. So far it’s been good with it but a good amount of times it didn’t record motion. One instant, my child was playing outside and ran passed it and the camera didn’t record him when he ran passed it again the opposite direction. He left his play area and the camera didn’t even record that. Luckily it’s in a pretty enclosed space but that camera made me think he was still playing in that area while the whole time he wasn’t. Of course check on your kiddos but don’t reply solely on this to detect motion in front of your door at all moments. They’re also gaps between recordings. Pros: comes with batteries, easy to set up, decent camera quality, very quick customer service(I can get ahold of someone in like 1-3 minutes). Decent camera quality even when night vision is activated. No issues with it going offline randomly like the blink mini cameras do. Small and easy to hide. Door ring has a notification that comes to your phone in the exact sound as the doorbell(phone can’t be on silent or of course you won’t hear it).
