This pump is a great pump for a small intex pool. I have a 10ft x 30in pool. I am using it for the second year now and it works amazing. I have well water and I had clear water the very next day after running the pump overnight. You have to make sure when you set it up that you do it properly. You cannot put the sand in before adding the center piece inside the bucket and you have to make sure you don’t get sand inside that center piece when adding the sand. Also, make sure there is no sand around the rim or seal before putting the lid on and you will be good to go. It’s not hard to setup though.

So I purchased this for my small 8ft intex above ground pool last year. It kept my water reasonably clear in addition to obviously chlorinating and shocking my pool. Though I noticed I was having sand build up on the bottom of my pool and couldn’t figure out why. This season I upgraded to a 7x14 ft pool (about 1400 gallons) it has been a disaster. The pressure is almost non existing. My skimmers weren’t doing the job and barely any water was being sent back into the pool. Aside from that sand was coming out and causing a need for constant vacuuming. I contacted intex they tried to be helpful but I felt like they were trying to sugar coat the real problem. I explained to them my issue and spent close over an hour trying to fix it (backwashing, rinsing, replacing the sand…) Nothing doing. They said they will send me a new motor, I explained to them the pump worked well on circulation mode - a mode in which it circulates the water through the skimmer and back into the pool without entering the actual sand filter (not filtering the water) which clearly indicates no motor issue. They still sent me a new motor and the cover valve piece. I spent another hour or two resetting up the whole filter placing new sand and all….nothing doing, sand was still spitting back into my pool, lots of sand. I checked the level of sand and cleaned it out again…. Ok so I finally settled for filtering balls. Their was obviously no sand spitting back in the pool but still very unimpressive suction and outlet pressure. Bottom line it is a weak (new) motor with a non efficient filtering cycle. I just purchased another brand. I would not recommend intex sand filter you pay for the company name, but receive junk!!!

Doesn't pump much power hook to prper salt pump. Weak. And pumps debree back in. No matter how much how little sand and flushing it. Fail

I owe Intex a huge apology. The pump did break after 1 week. However - my ignorance kept me from understanding the refund process. The GFI safety switch on the plug was faulty. We did have to have it repaired. The pump is operating fine after the repair. I again apologize for my lack of understanding the refund process.

We purchased this pool pump at the end of the season because we wanted to have a better pool pump for the next season. We received the pool pump hooked it up and it worked really well for the last few weeks of the summer. We unhooked it after the season, packed it up nicely and put it away for the winter. We just took it back out again and hooked it up to our pool and it only worked for about two weeks and now the pump seized up and it no longer works. I reached out to the seller to see if there’s anything they could do and they informed us that because it was out of the Time period for return allowance that there was nothing they could do to help us. So we are stuck with a broken pump and will now have to buy a new one. We got about maybe one full month of use out of this pump before it broke.

I bought this as a replacement for the included cartridge style pump that you get with the smaller intex pools. I have the 12'x30" kids pool and this sand filter is the perfect size to keep the pool sparkling clean all summer long. Bonus - I only have to run it 4 hours per day to keep the pool clean vs the 12 hours a day I ran the OEM cartridge style pump for AND no filters to change out every week! Highly recommend for anyone with an Intex pool that came with one of those crappy cartridge style filters!
