  • Best addition to my kitchen, and certainly beats a stand-alone air fryer, too!
I had a different brand of a pressure cooker, but knew there was a lot of hubbub about Instant Pots and their new air fryer lids. My friend mentioned there was this newer model that doubled as an air fryer / roaster, and I got one! This machine is incredible, I'm being honest. We roast vegetables for almost every dinner and this air fryer lid shaves half the time off of that process and doesn't make the entire kitchen hot. Our oven takes about 10-12 minutes to get to the right temperature, then roasts for 20 minutes, then takes another hour to cool down. The air fryer option on the Instant Pot takes about 2 minutes to heat up, only needs to cook for about 10-12 minutes tops, then cools down very quickly. It's truly a fraction of the time and frees up the oven for the main course! So far we've loved it for cooking carnitas and then crisping with the lid once done, making delicious one-pot pasta meals and broiling the cheese on top, or making some nice stews / other dishes. I'm extremely, EXTREMELY impressed with the Duo Crisp. Pressure cookers are great to begin with, but having the simple addition of the air frying lid is just a total game changer for us. I also didn't realize that stand-alone air fryers are rather expensive, so this machine being able to do both pressure cooking AND air frying for us for less than the cost of a big air fryer has been amazing. I cannot recommend this machine enough! We've had it a month and use it about 5-7 times a week at the moment. It's also helpful for getting roasted vegetables at lunch as it's so quick about cooking. I'll update in a few months or a year on how it's doing - but I'd buy this again a few times with how useful it is! If you're on the fence - don't be. Just get it - you will be happy! ... show more

  • Not a causal appliance
This pot changed my life. I am an Instant Pot girly now. This is a BIG POT. If you have a small kitchen this 8qt is NOT for you. Get a smaller Instant Pot. And arguably this is too big for my family of 3, the 6 qt would have worked fine. This pot is for Instant Pot enthusiasts and not for casual cooks. BUT the air fryer on the other hand, which I use once a week or so, the 8qt is the right size because the food needs more space in order to cook. The chicken wings are magic. After I got this Duo Crisp, my parents got a sturdy toaster oven/air fryer combo that lives on their countertop. It’s wayyyy less hastle than the Dup Crisp for the air fryer function, but the wings aren’t as good. So know that you are taking on an appliance on the level of a bulky toaster oven. ... show more

  • Fantastic appliance! I never want to live without it!
I got my 8 quart Duo Crisp a few weeks ago and have used it almost every day. The only things I would change are the flimsy broiler tray that fits into the fryer basket and the lack of a yogurt function — otherwise it’s my favorite kitchen gadget by a huge margin. I’ve had an standard Instant Pot for a while so I’ve been very focused on this model’s air fryer functionality which is new for me. I’ve roasted a chicken, made air fried wings & brussel sprouts, baked breakfast quiches, broiled swordfish & salmon and loved it all. My new favorites are broiled bananas and cinnamon baked pears. Amazing how broiling/baking a simple piece of fruit caramelizes the sugar and transforms it into something so much more delicious. No need for a big fancy dessert. Just throw them in a bowl with some vanilla bean ice cream and you’ll be in heaven. I love the way the Duo Crisp cooks so quickly evenly without burning. It’s way simpler and faster than using my oven and/or broiler. It takes a minute or two to get up to temperature so you’re off and cooking in no time at all. I just ordered a bunch of accessories for it and can’t wait to make the famous #17 cheesecake and a bunch of Jeff Eisner recipes. If you have an Instant Pot you absolutely need to check out Jeff’s website and recipes @ pressureluckcooking.com — you’ll be hooked. If you haven’t gathered by now I highly recommend this product!!!! ... show more

  • I guess I like kitchen gadgets now...
I was always pretty anti-kitchen gadgets. The InstantPot seemed like just another thing that did stuff I could already do on my stove or oven. Boy, was I wrong. I honestly am in disbelief how much I love using this thing. It is so versatile that I use it more than anything else in my kitchen, except maybe the sink. The reasons why? Well, for starters it’s super easy to clean. Instead of making a mess with multiple pans and pots and lids with food stuff splattering everywhere, the InstantPot is one thing that’s fully contained. When the timer ends I take out the food, clean the pot, and wipe down the lid and little “gutter” and that’s it. Two, it’s so FAST! Now, granted some things will feel like they take the same or similar amount of time when pressure cooking because the machine has to build pressure. BUT, the difference is that I can set this and LEAVE! When it’s ready it beeps and I can choose to keep the food warm or have it stop cooking when the timer is done. What really sold me on finally purchasing this is the air fryer attachment. I’ve been wanting an air fryer so this was much cheaper than buying everything separately. I will say that while I do love the air fryer it’s probably not the best on the market. When using a two-tiered basket, whatever is in the top portion *will* be more cooked than the bottom. This is a problem I will try to fix by simply removing the top portion when it’s cooked and letting the bottom cook longer until it’s done. Not ideal, but for delicious air fried food ans the convenience of having these capabilities from one machine at this price, I’ll make do. I recommend purchasing an InstantPot cookbook to accompany this. It will help acquaint you to how this machine can be used, even if the cookbook is more oriented towards one of the models without the air fryer. What do I use this for? So far I’ve made vegan chana masala (yum!), vegan banana bread (yum!), air fried Brussels sprouts (yum!), truffle fries (you get the idea). I’ve also used this to steam food to make dog food for my pup with allergies. One of my favorite things to use this for is dry goods!! I will dump a whole bag of dry beans or quinoa or whatever in the pot, add spices, water, set it, and it’s done to perfection so quickly! I’ll then can everything and freeze it so I have beans and quinoa on hand all the time whenever I need them for a meal! It’s the best! Not to mention the pressure cooker seems to really INFUSE whatever you’re cooking with the spices you choose. The beans I’ve made with this I’ve eaten plain they were so so tasty! I live with roommates but this has been the best purchase ever. I’m lucky to have the room to store it, but it’s also great because they can cook on the stove or in the oven if they want, and I have everything I need right in this InstantPot so no one has to wait on anyone to clear out before they can do their own thing. Things I wish it did differently: - I wish the display showed seconds. Minor inconvenience but the display in general makes it feel cheap. - I wish the display showed what setting it was on and what action it was currently doing. For example, a small icon for “pressure cooking” so you can remember that you chose the correct setting. Or a little icon that showed it was building pressure so you don’t think you didn’t hit “start” or something before waking away. Also, something that showed the current temperature inside instead of what you set it to so you know how things are cooking or heating up/cooling down. - A persistant beep every minute or so when food is finished cooking. ... show more
