  • 5* for the WOOD and BODY only
Crap pickups without the headroom needed for a low B. Electronics were dead on arrival (only passive mode working) but I’m sure the preamp is crap Inlays causing buzzing. Still, absolutely a great steal IF you are looking for a EXCEPTIONAL modding platform. This is essentially a fretless Cort A5 Plus with better wood, and the ebonol / composite fingerboard is fantastic. Once I confirmed it was only inlays buzzing, I took it to a tech and am replacing the pickups and preamp. If you want something you can perform with straight away, get something from a real brand. If you want to “build your own fretless” with pick ups and a preamp of your choosing, you could not pick a better base to start on. Definitely not for this price. In case anyone doesn’t understand, this is sometimes known as a “sticker brand” instrument. Basically a manufacturing plant in China that does overflow builds for Cort, Ibanez, etc will finish that work. Then they either have leftover wood or their own wood supply, and they have the molds from those brands, so they changed some aesthetic things to avoid a lawsuit, put in the cheapest electronics and hardware they can (the bridge in tuners on this are fine, just a bit heavy on the tuners), and then sell it through third parties who slap a “brand” on it for a super low price to get the materials out of their warehouse to prepare for the next real job for an actual brand. Usually, these are unplayable, garbage, but manufactured instruments are getting better and better, and this is an example of great work on the core of the instrument, and cutting corners in every other place. (Top wood - which doesn’t matter sonically, electronics, hardware). Sorry that was a bit of a ramble ... show more

  • Unbelievably Flawless
I'm totally blown away by the quality of this bass, especially for the cost! First of all, the pics in the listing don't do it justice. This is a beautiful instrument. I've been over it completely and can't find one single flaw in the workmanship. All of the wood is gorgeous. I've never experienced Belcat pickups before, though I've considered them for other projects. I'm very happy with them and will definitely be buying more. I didn't expect it to be set up out of the box, but it's extremely close. A simple tune and off I went. The action was low and very easy to play and the strings do not seem like the usual junk that most basses ship with. My electronics are a slight different from the listing, which says it has two volume knobs. Mine only has one volume, one pickup blender and 3 EQ knobs. I'm not exactly sure what the selector switch does. The only thing I will change is the strings. Not because they are junk, but because I prefer flatwound. The gig bag that comes with it is an economy bag with a little padding, but this bass is worthy of a nice hard case. Do yourself a favor and don't hesitate to buy one. I couldn't be happier. ... show more

  • Good wood combination and electronics are decent for the cost!!!
Bass has potential, good wood combination, however a more rounded off neck toward the fretboard would be much more comfortable to play in my opinion!!!

  • Great value
For the price, it's a nice bass. Get one! Easy to set up and plays well enough for me, an accomplished guitarist, to thoroughly enjoy. Be great at any level of playing

  • Considering return… finish has multiple widespread pitting…
At first glance I was blown away… then upon a more focused inspection the finish along the top is pitted. Pretty bad and wide spread… There a spot by the strap lock that looks like it’s different wood glued into that spot as seen in pics… QC should have caught these… Update: ordered second one. Far worse than the first. The top woods weren’t the same color. What a mess I might keep this original , I’m on the fence … it just needs some touch ups but it’s brand new and shouldn’t. ... show more

  • Amazing Quality!
The media could not be loaded. I just couldn't pass up this deal when I saw it! I'm a guitar player that is now very interested in playing bass. I've never been interested in 5 string bass's but I have always been interested in fretless bass's. Now I got both. The quality of this Tario Bass is just amazing! The body and neck are very smooth and well made. The bridge is better than the average bridge you will see on guitars at this price! I love the inlays on the fret board. The tuners are nice, (20 to 1 ratio). They seem to hold up just fine. The volume and tone pots feel very nice. I let it acclimate for a few days and adjusted the neck and bridge slightly, usual stuff. I got it playing just how I like it! Just need to get used to no frets. Great deal!!! I highly recommend. ... show more

  • Spectacular value
I wanted a fretless to get certain sounds unavailable on a fretted bass and this does it in spades. I have only played bass for about a year but guitar for over 40 years and have owned and played quite a few over that time. This bass has spotless fit and finish. The wood is a gorgeous oiled satin throughout and plays way over it's price point. I changed the round wounds to EB cobalt flats and wow! Those Nathan East and Pastor's sounds come through perfectly. The fingerboard edge was a tad sharp so when I took off the factory strings I ran a 0000 steel wool pad to round it a little. Hardware is solid and high mass and active switched electronics are well soldered. If battery runs out can still play passively. Pups are sealed M type ceramics and may change out down the road if I want that MM sound. Get these before they run out and price goes up! Gig bag is a bonus. Would buy another Tario no doubt! ... show more

  • Great for the price
Surprisingly good for the price. Had to get the nut slots filed down as they were way too high for a fretless bass. And the pre-amp slid around in the control compartment and resulted in noise (probably from pushing on a wire or two) until I opened it up and moved it. But once those issues were dealt with it plays very well, have received several compliments on the looks and sound. Would recommend a case or better gig bag though, the supplied bag is very thin. And the factory strings are fairly abrasive, I put on flatwounds when I had the nut worked on. Nothing surprising for a bass at this price level though. ... show more
