  • Accurate Temp Measurements, Weak LED Display
Size: 4 Probes
I have been using the Inkbird wireless thermometer for over a month now on my smoker. It works well and seems to be fairly accurate. My only complaint is with the monitor’s LED display. It is dim and is barely readable outdoors in the shade, it is completely unreadable in direct sunlight. Luckily, my smoker is shaded under my patio cover. The Inkbird uses a generic mobile phone app called easyBBQ, that is used by many wireless thermometer vendors. The app works well but I wish it was more adjustable. The temperature alert and unplugged probe cable alarm sounds are annoying and can not be changed, only turned on or off. The Inkbird is better than some other wireless thermometers I have tried, but falls short due to the weak LED display. I rely more on my phone’s display than I do the monitor, so I am still happy with it. Update: Inkbird contacted me after I posted my initial review and offered to send me a replacement system. While I appreciate their kind gesture, the replacement monitor unfortunately was no brighter than my original one. I increased my review from 3 stars to 4, since they did their best to make things right. ... show more

  • Too good to be true
Size: 4 Probes
I had high hope for this 4 probe unit - hard to find a good 4 probe unit and then on that integrates with a smartphone is an added bonus. Initially, it works pretty well - then after a few uses, it stops reading accurate temperatures.. one probe is 50 degrees higher than the other - finally, I took the probes and dunked them into a pot of boiling water which should be 212 - and every probe was way way off. I confirmed the temp with my therma-pen and that read right on 212.. I see now they added a whole poorly written explanation on their product description saying to be sure the probes are fully inserted - if they are not it won't read temp properly. Well, I quadruple checked that - I plugged them in and our and made sure they were fully inserted. So sadly you get what you pay for here - do not recommend at all.... ... show more

  • A must for any BBQ enthusiast!
Size: 4 Probes
Unboxing: The first thing I noticed is the sleek, compact design. I also have Inkbird’s 6 probe thermometer, and the IBT-4XS just looks better. The thermometer comes with 4 probes, 2 probe holders and a charging cable. The fact that the thermometer has an internal, rechargeable battery is a huge plus. It already had an 85% charge, but I went ahead and charged it. Pre-cook testing; I put all 4 probes in an ice bath and in boiling water before doing my first cook. I also used my 6 probe Inkbird and a digital Weber thermometer as part of the test. In the ice bath all 4 probes read 34 degrees. The 6 probe Inkbird also read 34 while my Weber read 32. During the boiling water test the probes for the IBT-4XS read 210 degrees while the 6 probe Inkbird read 212 and the Weber 208. Overall, I am satisfied with the accuracy of this unit. The app: Inkbird’s BBQ Go app is a great feature. It is super easy to pair with the thermometer via Bluetooth and gives you all the info you need about your cook in progress. It allows wireless monitoring of your cook. I decided to do pork butt as my first cook with this unit, so I set the high limit for each of the probes I used to 203 degrees. When the internal temp was reached an alarm sounded. I didn’t have to babysit the cook...the thermometer did it for me. Awesome! For this particular cook I was using a pellet smoker, so I didn’t need to worry about the cooker maintaining temperature; however, when I use a traditional cooker I will use one of the probes to monitor the temp in the cooker. You can set a temperature range and have the thermometer alert you via the app if the cooker goes outside of the range. If you are doing a long, overnight cook, this is a fantastic feature. Go ahead and take a little nap. The alarm will let you know if your cooker falls outside of your desired temperature range. The Cook: I cooked the two beautiful pork butts pictured above. They came out amazing, and I never had to worry about their progress. A quick look at my phone, and I instantly knew what was going on outside. It rained all day, so it was extra nice not having to go outside to check the temp all the time. I have a fairly large home, and I was able to monitor the temps from every corner of the house. Not until I decided to make a quick trip to the store did I lose connection with the thermometer, and the app immediately warned me that I was no longer connected. Potential future upgrades: This is a very nice thermometer, especially for the price. If there is anything I’d like to see on future models from Inkbird it would be 1) Wi-Fi connectivity so temps could be monitored away from home is needed. This would be especially nice during super long cooks. 2) The app to store details about the cook...what did you cook, how long did it take, how did the temps progress during the cook, notes about the cook such as rubs used, whether or not you wrapped the meat, etc, etc. Just a couple of wish list items in case the fine folks at Inkbird are reading this review. Overall, I am very happy with this thermometer, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys BBQ. Happy cooking! ... show more

  • Nice unit, but the app needs work
Size: 2 Probes
I had a ThermoPro TP-20, but I didn't like the fact that it only has high-temp alarms. You can't set it to alert you when, say, the interior temp of your smoker drops below 225. So, I bought this Inkbird unit specifically for that feature, and it works very well. Accurate and reliable. But, instead of using a separate remote unit like the ThermoPro, this one connects to an app on your phone. That's handy, but there are a couple of things that have to be improved. Namely, the alarm that notifies you of over or under temp is VERY LOUD, and--at least in the Android version on my Samsung phone--you can't adjust the volume. It's extremely annoying, especially since I'm sure it's dead simple to include that functionality. Not only that, but when the alarm goes off, you can only cancel it from within the app. So, while it's screaming at you, bothering your family, you're fumbling to unlock the screen, unlock the phone, get to the app, and then cancel the alarm. Again, for an app programmer, it's trivial to make it put up a notification that you can dismiss with a single swipe rather than go through all that. I sincerely hope that they are working on adding those functions. Then it would be a five-star product. ... show more
