I've been through a few portable air compressors over the years and the Metabo HPT "The Tank" is genuinely in a different class. This thing means business. Recovery time is where it separates itself from the competition. It spools back up fast after a draw-down, which matters a lot when you're running nail guns or impact tools that cycle frequently. Nothing worse than standing around waiting for pressure to rebuild in the middle of a job — not a problem here. The tank capacity is excellent for a portable unit. You get a real reservoir behind your tools instead of the compressor constantly cycling to keep up. For framing, trim work, tire inflation, or running a plasma cutter's air requirement, it delivers without complaint. Noise level is reasonable for a compressor in this class — not whisper quiet, but not the ear-splitting racket you get from older oil-lube pancake compressors either. The oil-free pump means no maintenance headaches and no worrying about running it at weird angles. Build quality is immediately apparent. This is the only one that I have found, at a reasonable price and very good construction, that will do a framing nailer and push a 3" long #10 into wood. 200 psi @ 4 cfm and much quieter than my vertical oilless compressor that will hurt your ears! ... show more

It is loud and recovers slowly, but it works and it is only a 6 Gallon. You can do tires on heavy rigs or operate two framing nailers. Infrequently used impact wrenches work as well. That 200 PSI puts it over the top as far as usability in a small package. I was able to get the tires of my heavy van done. Sure, had to recover, but it worked. Now I don't have to worry about finding room for a broken air compressor at a gas station anymore. I think this just might be able to infrequently operate a small drill for sheet metal as well. I will absolutely need a bigger tank for sanders, painters and die grinders, but this small tank is good for just about anything around the house. ... show more
