Bought two, one for Mom and one for me, as a project we could do together. I have gotten into succulents and cacti during the “year at home”, and she has followed along. Short version: my opinion is that this is the best all-in-one grow kit available. I give 4 of 5 stars because it advertises too much ease and there is one significant design flaw. Longer version: I’m learning to grow from seed in general, this kit was one of many experiments. Unboxing was delightful, well-packed, beautiful, a great woody scent.... all very gif table. As you can see in the photos I have germinated plump lil cactus seedlings. It works, and germination took about 8 days. However, I have had this success with a heat mat and grow lights. Not nearly with the “set it and forget it” approach mentioned. My moms seedlings still have not germinated 15 days after planting without the mat. Without light, all seedlings of all varieties will grow tall and spindly. So absolutely I believe the seeds are legitimate, and also believe the struggles described in other reviews. Also, if you look carefully at the photos you can see a substantial amount of mold, along with a huge amount of cinnamon I’m hoping will work as an anti-fungal. Mold means soil is too moist, so partly it’s on me. When I visited the Garden Republic website, a suggestion for dealing with mold was to put the labeling stakes into the soil as little as possible. When I pulled the stakes out, they were COVERED in mold. I tossed and replaced with more-generic labels I have at home. I’m 90% sure the wood stakes were rotting below the surface, triggering some of the mold. The fact that this is listed in the website makes me think it’s a widespread problem, and therefore a pretty substantial design flaw. So overall, 4 of 5 stars. The best pre-created seed mix on the market and a great gift. But removing one star for the mold on the labels and the implication that growing seedlings is ever “easy,” because you can’t change biology.

My initial reaction was that the kit was really nice and they did their best to put it all together for you to begin. I could see the effort in qaulity from initial opening. It seems like a great qaulity starter kit for the price. It made me excited to use a cute and compact kit for little trees i usually would buy and ultimately kill from the store. So i suppose if i kill these i will give up forever on bonsai growing depsite how fascinated i am with the entire process haha. It will feel worth it in the end somehow simoly because of the kit being so nicely put together. It comes with everything you need until they grow larger and will need repotted. I might not have a green thumb either but i am proud of the project so far. I did feel like the instructional pamplet could have been worded and written better for easier understanding but maybe it was only me so im not going to take stars off for my potential idiocy. I registered my seeds with their website which was quite easy (its a nice feature to have with a product like this). Ultimately it sent me through an auto text on the messenger app. Which i will add is nice because it will answer other questions for you too. Im interested in using the box it came in for other things eventually so i love that it can be used and wasnt just a piece of packaging i had to toss in the trash. Im not sure if all my seeds will grow but i followed the directions as best i could if not exactly. I use a spray bottle every few days to get the soil damp again bc the sun can get overbearing in the window they sit. It is safe from my cat there though for now. I might be watering too much so we will see. I soaked my seeds May 15th and potted them May 16th. So far the blue spruce (lady blue) is the only tree that has sprouted and its been just shy of 3 weeks. We also named all the little trees to fulfil our quirky needs and help us commit to growth haha. First picture is day of potting, second/ third pictures are on May 27th. I didnt take pictures of the box and everything because it was all exactly as advertised on amazon

got this for my mom for christmas and she says she hasnt used yet, but when i received the order the package was in perfect condition. no complaints. likewise when she opened it on christmas it contained everything stated and looked very cute and put together. If it was gifted to me i would already be using! BUt hey, it is what it is. Anyways can't really rate on how the seeds grow etc. because its not in my possession but the packaging, supplies, and aesthetic were all above and beyond for me.

I thought this is a gift for my friend who is also my boss. I guess you could say she was more my boss than my friend. I met her at work and she just loves gardening. I thought this would be cute and she could set it on her window sill and get little herbs and be happy. After gifting it to her she absolutely loved it she was tickled pink. I haven't heard anything negative from her. I think it's kind of ghost to go up to somebody and ask them how they like their gift so I can't give you an after review but I can't tell you that if you buy it for a gardener they really will like it.
