What we have here is a unique and wonderful idea that works but could be so much better if they made a few improvements. It appears to be a one of a kind item though, I could not find anything else that did the same thing to compare it to except for those little plastic deflectors that attach with magnets to an existing grill. THE GOOD The concept is simple, take a standard floor register grate and put a hinge on it so you can direct all of the air to blow horizontally instead of straight up. Most register grills have louvers that deflect the air slightly to the side but mostly it still blows in an upward direction. WHY DO YOU NEED IT My house is one of many in my geographical location that uses under floor ducts, and thus uses floor registers. The builders had an odd sense of humor where they chose to locate some of them, including one right next to my bed, which places it directly under my nightstand. I had to buy a nightstand in which the bottom shelf is raised about a foot off the floor so I wouldn't block the register but the air still blows straight up against that shelf. With this popup vent I can deflect 100% of the air horizontally toward my bedroom, which is a vast improvement. HOW DOES IT WORK Okay, I expected something a little more sophisticated that automatically closed the top openings if I chose to raise the grill but what happens is there is a little lever that I slide sideways to open and close the top openings. Obviously if I want the air to blow sideways the top openings have to be shut. I don't plan to ever use this as a normal vent so the way it's designed works fine. When the top is lifted there are several little bumps that act as detents to lock the angle anywhere from about 10 degrees to about 45 degrees. When fully raised the maximum height of the popup is about 3 inches but you can adjust it anywhere down to about one inch. HOW DOES IT LOOK The item is available in a choice of three colors. I chose tan to go with my bamboo wood floors and I am very pleased with the look, although to be fair I have it located under a nightstand so I'll never see it. The design is conservative and would go with any architectural decor. BUILD QUALITY Here is where I would like to see either some redesign or an alternative deluxe model. The product is 100% plastic and it's not a very rugged plastic. It works okay in low or no traffic areas but would definitely not be my choice in areas where people would walk on it, it wouldn't last a week. Being plastic it does have the advantage that it doesn't rattle, which is so common with floor vents. I would love to see a similar design popup vent made with a metal grill, both for looks and for durability. IMPROVEMENTS If you choose to use it in the raised popup position there is no way to control the air flow, either the amount of it or the direction. Some adjustable louvers would be a nice improvement. THINGS TO KNOW Surprisingly this product is not made in China but in Canada which might explain why something made of plastic costs as much as solid metal ones from other manufacturers. By the way at the time I bought it in early 2019 it was about eight dollars. There is not one word of installation or use tips included which made it frustrating when two pieces fell off when I opened it and I have no idea where they go or what they are supposed to do. I'm being generous in not downgrading them for that. YEA OR NAY While I would like to have seen something a little more architectural stylish and a more robust build quality I have to assume that most buyers would install this under furniture or near a wall where it's not a high traffic area and for that reason I say if you need something like this go for it, it is infinitely better than those magnetic deflectors that are about your only other option.

I saw someone posted a video making it look like this vent (deflector ) is SO difficult to use. It absolutely is not. The reason for the “raised plastic nubs” is so that it “locks” into the level of airflow you want. If the nubs were not there, then it wouldn’t stay open at all! It also comes with a piece of plastic that you can snap onto each level of “being open.” Also, don’t use your foot…. How often are you planning on opening and closing this? I LOVE mine. I have a bedroom where my bed is closer to my vent than I’d like it to be, but I don’t have a choice. I searched specifically for a deflector JUST LIKE THIS ONE. I had an idea in my head of what I needed and thank goodness for this. Now, not only does the heat or /A/C make it up into my room, it goes above and over my bed and feels wonderful. Saved my butt. The person in that video was being, what appeared to be, overly rough with this deflector and you don’t have to be. I wasn’t surprised that a small piece of plastic broke (self admittedly) from her foot. I use my hand if I want to adjust it and it still works perfectly….no cracks or breaks. I’m here to buy another one for another room. Please don’t stop selling these and for those of you on the fence, please just try it. It works. It look nice as well.

In my original order, a couple of registers arrived broken. The seller was quick to respond and get the replacement process started, and the replacement arrived several days after the original shipment. I bought these in hopes they would be better than the original floor registers that only point upwards and are placed right by the windows. My home is noticeably warmer with much less effort. I still have chilling (no pun intended) memories of how cold certain rooms would be this time of year even with the thermostat at above 70F. Thanks to these registers, I have not had to put the heat above 70 and the heating bill over the past month compared to this time last year is markedly down. I considered buying a space heater in the event these didn't work out, and while winter has yet to begin I am hopeful that it won't be necessary.

These are absolutely life-changing. No more having flimsy clear air deflectors - the best redirection technology the 1970's had to offer - getting stepped on, bumped, cracked, losing a magnets , getting flipped in the wrong direction, or being removed completely. No more wasting warm / cool air going "straight up" because of design and material limitations. These are the next evolutionary step in heating & cooling vent advancement!! These are great. Sturdy as heck. Thick plastic. Variable height to specifically target air deflection direction and scope. Indeed, these can be collapsed flat, revealing a traditional appearing vent that can be opened as well!! And, for those of you who may have vents in unique locations and could benefit from having redirectors funneling warm / cool air in multiple directions - back to back - these can do that too! Buy the big box of them . . . replace every old-school vent you may have in your home. Especially the ones that get gross and rusty from bathroom installations. That's what I'm going to do! Highly recommended!

These work well. I love that you can direct the airflow to where you want, but I got these after I had a kid and my boy keeps breaking them. They're plastic so at first he breaks the parts that keep the vent up to the positioning I want, but then in the end he ends up just breaking it all together. I've bought several replacements and wish there were a metal version. So in the end, these are great, but not ideal if you have a kid.

We have vents in the floor that are near our curtains. By using these pop up vents we divert the heat away from the curtains and out into the room. I can make them flat when I want to vacuum the area and then just pop them back up when I’m done. They work great.
