  • Nice improvement
We have an older 1940s home and the upstairs gets toasty in the summer. Every year we contemplate a standalone unit for our bedroom but never pull the trigger. This year we decided to give the fan-boosted duct thing a try. Pros: - Installation was very easy, and we're lucky to have an outlet right next to the duct and behind a dresser. - It was noticeably cooler this summer. Not the miracle some have suggested, but it definitely helped, with a caveat (see cons). - It worked out of the box. We didn't try messing with fan speeds or temps, the default settings worked for us. Maybe we could crank the fan up more for better results but it would probably be louder than we like. - Not very noisy. Yes you can hear it, but mostly sounds like a computer fan working hard. Got to a point of factoring in with our nighttime noise machine. Cons: - Our vent is on the wall along the baseboard. The vents on these are not angled, so the cold air blew straight out along the floor. The floor was very cold but we don't sleep on the floor. We ended up getting plastic deflectors to redirect the air upwards, and it helped a lot. Also note, most of the deflectors are magnetic, which is not great for electronics, so we had to remove the magnets and mount it to the vent with some 3M tape. - The LED light is a bit bright and always on. Depending where it is in your line of sight when sleeping it could be a problem. Could easily put a piece of tape over it. All in all, we're happy with it. Don't look for it to end those hot nights, but it will make them more tolerable. ... show more

  • Cold bedroom much better
I purchased this booster fan to bring additional heat to a bedroom in the northwest corner of my house. The bedroom is quite cool in the evening. The register fan worked very well but keep reading to get the full story. Installation of the fan was extremely simple. I removed the old register cover and this unit fit exactly into the space, with the circulation fans, sticking deeper into the wall cavity. My electrical outlet unfortunately was on the left side of the unit, about 3 inches away, so I had to wrap it around the register with the additional cord management piece they provide. The register is held in place with two screws. One screw went in perfectly using the old screw hole, the other screw hole didn’t match up so I had to drill it out, which only took a minute. Once the unit was mounted on the wall, I plugged it in. There are 3 settings you need to adjust based on your personal preference and the room temperature: Fan speed, activation temperature for heating and activation temperature for cooling. Remember you are not setting the desired temperature of the room. Since this room is usually a bit chilly, I did not want the fan to start blowing cold air thinking it was in air conditioning mode. So, I lowered the temperature of the air conditioning activation to 60 degrees. I wanted the fan to start as soon as hot air is blowing from the furnace, so I lowered the heating activation to 76 degrees. I turned up the furnace and watch the temperature climb on the unit and once it got to 76 degrees the fan start working and it was pulling more heat into the room. I might have to adjust the hot and cold activation temperatures in the summer when the room is a bit warm, so it is not blowing warm air if the room is 76 degrees or above and instead just comes on when the air conditioning has activated. I did increase the fan to speed 7 over the next couple of nights, so it was providing quite a bit of heat, but not so noisy as to be a bother when you are sleeping. Overall, it has helped tremendously with getting a more comfortable temperature for the room. I feel it was a good investment. The good: Unit works just as advertised, very flexible for setting activation temperatures and fan speeds. Easy to install. Seems like it will be very durable. The bad: It doesn’t turn off when it is activated until the temperature sensor is above or below what you have specified, no matter what the temperature of the room becomes. And the big thing is of course, it does not help at all, when the furnace/air conditioner are not running. So there are times when the room is still a bit cool, because the rest of the house is at the desired temperature for the thermostat and the furnace is not running. What I wish: I wish they would partner with EcoBee thermostats and could activate the register fans when the furnace fan is running. Also, they could be a remote temperature sensor for the thermostat. ... show more

  • A little loud for a bedroom
Overall happy with the vent. Easy to install and works well. Wish it moved more air for how loud it is on high. Once you figure out the temp settings for turning on and off. It works as you would expect.

  • Works great for blowing hot air above my woodstove into the next room.
I cut a hole in my wall above my woodstove so I could install this fan. It is set to start blowing at 90 degrees, so when all the hot air rises above my woodstove, this turns on and blows hot air into my hallway near the bedrooms and near the HVAC return duct in my hall ceiling. It remembers its programming, even if you unplug it and then plug it back in. You can set the hot or cold temps at which it turns on, and at what speed it runs. I only use it for hot, so it turns on when the air gets above a certain temp. I hardly notice the sound at high speed. Displays the current room temperature. I would highly recommend it. zero complaints. ... show more

  • Could be better.
We have had this installed in the room which is fairly small but gets hot due to the sun hitting it for most of the day. In total we have had this for 5 months, bought it in August (which is super hot here in south Texas). Pros: Easy to install. Long enough cord to reach the plug (our vent is on the ceiling). Hardly any noise level. Also, instructions are clear on how to set the temp control. Cons: Sadly it doesn't cool the room down as I hoped. The computer desk chair is directly below it so you can feel the cool air right in that one spot only, and that's not all the time either. I wish there was a thing to redirect the air to another area, it just shoots one way, but I knew that buying it, I guess I was hoping it would disburse better, and it does not. Also, it should come with a blackout cover for the LED light, it's pretty bright in a dark room, which I didn't expect. Would I recommend, no. ( Not if your vent is in the ceiling at least.) ... show more

  • This works great
What most reviews don’t understand what this does. It pulls the hot air from the furnace up into the house. You get to set the temperature , I have mine set for 68 degrees . So it pulls the heat up from the furnace as long as it’s above 68. You set the speed of fan . I have mine at 04 beause its quite enough.. I have no ac so I turn that off. It makes places that were always cold in rooms that stay above 68 ... show more
