It features four-layer protection, making it more durable and resistant to leaks than single-layer designs. The internal layer is made of heavy-duty dual aluminum foil that is fire/flame resistant. Each duct tube is held together by an internal steel-wire spiral that is flexible and easy to install in hard to reach places. The ducting can be shortened by cutting the tube to fit various applications. Includes two stainless steel duct clamps. The four layer build is the real difference here compared to thinner single layer ducting. The inner aluminum foil layer is fire resistant, and the outer thermoplastic layer adds real resistance to tearing and punctures while routing it through tight spaces. The internal steel wire spiral keeps the tube round and open even after bending it around obstacles, rather than collapsing or kinking the way cheap ducting tends to. It stretched to full length without issue and the diameter fit snugly over a standard inline fan connection, no fighting to get it seated.     • Some tips to make install go easier

I bought a whole house fan from Lowe's, the advanced kind with a grill attached to the ceiling connected to about 6 feet of flex duct, with the motor at the other end, which draws hot air out of the house and puts it in the attic where it is expelled outside via various vents. Works great in our house, but I did a variation for the one I just bought for the garage. I, being a lifelong metal man with 20 years in ductwork, used my know how to build a plenum box and stub out 3 intakes, each 12 inch round, and instead of using the grill provided with the fan, I attached flanged box to my plenum, and ran this 12 inch flex out to a box I made for each of 3 rooms. I had grills already laying around, and made the flange to fit each grill. I put volume dampers in the 2 shorter runs to balance the intake volume if necessary. The ceiling is 11' 5",, and this the reason I "zoned" the garage, shop and rec room- one intake would not adequately pull heat out of the other 2 ceilings. Now, some tips. I made my collars 11 7/8" outside, and I still fought each connection. You could make your collars 11 3/4" and you wouldn't regret it. The reason I gave 4 stars is the material will tear if it encounters a sharp edge, like the overlap, or a burr on the edge. I recommend you have some silver tape handy and tape over the overlap and file any burrs on the outside edge. Crimping the edge will cause the same problem, so I don't recommend you hand crimp or buy start collars that come pre crimped. The metal drawbands are decent, and phillips bit in a battery drill did the trick. When you go to fit the flex on your start collar turn the excess fabric back (like you were trying to turn it inside out) to get it out of the way. It wouldn't hurt to tape metal to flex before you band it, I did. I use 3M x 3" wide. I cut my first run at about 20 feet, using wire cutters instead of snips. that left enough for my second run. I have one more to do, but I fired the fan up and it worked as expected. I'm sure I'll be pleased when the ceiling is installed. I hope these tips help you gitrdun. ... show more

I've used steel ducts and insulated flex duct and then recently tried this. It comes at a better cost than the insulated duct and can even complete easily with solid steel ducts. This is a high quality, easy to work with and kink free duct. I used to route heat from my oil furnace to a new basement room and installation was easy and seems like it will stand the rest of time. There are so many uses for this ducting that I wouldn't have even realized had I not ended up with so much extra. Now I us it to direct water from my gutters into my flower beds! Works like a charm!
