  • It works
The water heater does what it says. I'm going to need this this winter as, honestly, my natural gas is to be shut off shortly because it's just way too expensive and my bill is going to take forever to pay down. So, this little gizmo will hopefully get us through. It's a pretty simple design, as simple as one could get I suppose, but it works. It gets hot fast so it's a good idea to have it submerged before plugging it in. It doesn't have an on/off switch it just relies on plugging in or unplugging. You're also going to want to use the included thermometer and/or unplug it *before* checking the water temperature by hand or getting in it if you're heating bathwater directly. If one was wanting to heat a standard sized bathtub, it'd probably take an hour or so depending on what the desired temperature is. I'd say 78°F is a comfortable temperature but you may be different. I'd say this is a perfectly acceptable way to heat water if, like me, you have no other choice at the moment. I'd probably heat a 5 gallon bucket as hot as it can get, then add it to the already waiting bathwater to speed things up. Just a note: I believe it does say not to use it for more than 3 hours at a time. Also, be sure to unplug it before you put any part of your body into the same water. I'm pretty absent minded sometimes and while I am not that afraid of electricity and work with it often, I have no idea in which way this little element is wired. It seems to me, practicing safety while using it is just common sense though, especially since it's essentially just mains voltage running right into the water via a controlled "short". I would hope there is some sort of non-corrosive barrier/insulation inside the stainless steel tube as it's impossible to get in there to clean any calcification/corrosion off but, like I said I haven't the slightest in how it's made. It's also unclear if there are any fail safes in place so I have to assume there are none and so should you if you decide to pick this up as well. For now I have to cautiously be optimistic on the longevity of the heating element and recommend this if you're in a similar situation as long as safety is followed. I'll be back here if there are any problems with this unit. ... show more

  • A nice backup to have on hand in case the hot water heater goes out.
Immersion Water Heater Our household water heater went out. I ordered this to help heat up dish water etc. until we could get a replacement. The heater performed it's task sufficiently heating the water in our sink to 111 degrees in approximately 25 minutes. For now it is helping us get the dishes done, later it will bring piece of mind knowing we have it readily available should we need it. There are some definite safety concerns that need to be taken into consideration with this unit, so be certain to read the included paperwork before use. 4 stars. Explaining my rating system: 5 - a superior product - I would recommend 4 - above average – a great choice 3 - average – what one might generally expect 2 - below average – I would advise seeking an alternative 1- Horrible – a waste of your valuable money - avoid if at all possible ... show more

  • Heats up quickly
The water heater is broken in the house my son is renting, so until it gets replaced he is using this to heat buckets of water so he can take hot baths. It heats a 5 gallon bucket up pretty quickly, and it only takes a couple buckets to get it warm enough for him. Would recommend to others in a similar situation. ... show more

  • Works well for small containers of water
I got this to potentially be used in our kids inflatable pool to warm it up quickly after getting setup for the day. It did raise the water temp of the pool (probably 200-300 gallons) by about a degree in 30 minutes. I'll have to try a longer period of a few hours to see if it can raise the temps to at least 80+. Otherwise no issues and it heats up quite well! ... show more

  • Wow it’s hot
I tested this in a bucket of water and it got very hot. It warmed about 4 gallons of water noticeably in and a half hour. This will work well in a koi pond or as I plan to do, in stock tanks. I wish there was some kind of sensor to automatically turn off in case it becomes exposed to air. It will surely burn up and whatever it is touching off left dry. ... show more

  • Does heat water very quickly, unsure of safety
Before putting this in our inflatable hot tub I tested it in a big pot of water first. The instructions state to fully submerge the heater and the plastic element, which I did in a large pot of water. I tested the water in a glass before heating, which came in at 65.8 degrees Fahrenheit. After submerging it in the pot of water it VERY quickly rose to 97.5 degrees. I unplugged it at that point because that was definitely hot enough for anything we would use it for. When I took it out of the water, the tip of the heating element was discolored. I'm unsure why, but I'm worried that it got too hot. This is concerning for many reasons. I'm hesitant to use it in our inflatable hot tub because it is plastic, and I'm afraid of the material melting. ... show more

  • Freeze prevention
We have a hot tub at our mountain cabin which we visit often. It is in a very rural part of the state and we lose power on a regular basis, especially in winter time due to storms. I have a backup generator that works great but is not powerful enough to operate the hot tub which in turn keeps the water in it from freezing. I have a large tank heater that I have used in the past but I'm always afraid it's going to damage the shell of the hot tub because it gets super super hot. I think this is the perfect size heater and I plan to sink a 5 gallon bucket of water and put it in that bucket of water which is in the hot tub. I'm only looking to keep the water above freezing so I think this will work fine. The quality seems great and it heats up very fast. I also like that it has a thermometer which I can run to the outside of the covered tub and monitor the temperature. My generator will handle this heater fine, the other one I have is really too big for the wattage I'm producing. This product came with great instructions and safety warnings which is very important for an item such as this. I will update if needed but for now I'm happy. ... show more
