  • Works great!
I’m surprised that this particular model has so few reviews on it. We bought the V8 to replace our Roomba that finally died. I had read a bunch of reviews trying to sort through people’s pros and cons, but ultimately there always seems to be people having problems with all of them from the cheapest to the most expensive. So I said “f—- it” and went with this guy. I had read a lot of reviews of the other iLife models, and so far I haven’t found there to be any of the issues people had most complained about. Mainly people seemed to feel like the v4 and v6 rammed full speed into their furniture, got stuck on ledges and destroyed things. I’m not sure if it’s a difference of the models, but the V8 is quiet and makes contact with furniture so gently you can’t even hear it. It’s never gotten stuck or destroyed anything in my house or harmed our pets. I would say it’s a great upgrade from our old Roomba and gets the job done without a hitch. ... show more

  • See my video for home made VIRTUAL WALL.
The media could not be loaded. Pros: (1) iLife V8s has strong suction for tiles & hardwood floor (not for carpet because no roller brush). The suction is 2x stronger (possibly 1200PA or 1500PA in max mode) than the iLife A6 (1000 PA). It picks up dust from tiles a lot better than the iLife A6 (but A6 works better on carpet with the plastic roller brush which is practically maintenance free, no brush cleaning needed which I like). (2) I like how it does the corners/edge 1st before the zig zag pattern. (3) has large 750 ml dustbin which I like a lot. (4) The new design of the two side brushes are better than the iLife A6. I usually have to pull out hair that got swirled around the side brushes of the A6; the side brush on the V8s is easily detachable to clean (no screws like the A6). (5) The RoadRover wheels on the V8S is flatter and I feel this machine can handle tiles with big 5/8 inch tile grout lines. This V8S runs on uneven floor surface better than my iRobot Braava 380t wheels. The wheels on the V8s also handles my mom's 5/8 inch tile grout lines better than the iLife V5s Pro, probably because of the flatter wheels and heavier machine. Con: (1) A lot louder than the iLife A6 (because of the stronger suction power ), (2) taller and bigger than A6. The dustbin door opens top down which is a BIG improvement over the the iLife A6 that has the dustbin door which opens bottom up with dust falling out of a BIG hole (so big improvement here). (3) iLife V8S is NOT as smart as irobot or Xiaomi with a camera eye. This iLife V8S still uses patterns (not camera) but the pattern got smarter for big rooms (may not work too well for small dining room with chair legs hitting the walls but still does an okay and acceptable job). (5) This robot is a LEFTY with same repeated pattern which can go in circles in dining room if there are 2 sided walls & 3rd side is blocked by a chair leg, because it rotates about 45 degrees (too wide, need more random degrees of turns like 10,15, 20, 30 degrees). (6) In the remote control, left/right arrow does not work at the beginning when the robot is doing its pattern. You have to wait to the end (later) to use the left/right arrow buttons. Workaround: you can push the HOME button on the remote and then the left/right button will work. (7) NO VIRTUAL WALL. I wish iLife v8s can use the same virtual wall as iLife A6 (but not!) The remote control from iLife A6 also does NOT work with the iLife v8S! So I created my own VIRTUAL WALL by folding & sewing the edges of my rugs to create some height (and also added a thick rope inside another rug to give it more height). Please see my video. I don't use the mop (I use Irobot Braava 380t for mopping which also does NOT have a virtual wall but their Navigation Cube is pretty smart and Braava makes NO noise). I would give it 5 stars if it has a VIRTUAL WALL. Too many dining chair legs hitting against the wall will likely make the robot run in repeated circle pattern for a while (trapped by 3 sides); it just needs time to find its way out of the center of the chair... FYI only: I bought an iLife v5S Pro for my mom earlier from Newegg (but returned it later). This iLife V8S is far more superior with the edge, then zigzag pattern. The V8S suction is twice more powerful than the V5S Pro. I also like how the V8S dustbin unclips from the side of the machine. At first, I thought I like the dustbin from the iLife V5s Pro which opens from the top, but now after trying out the V8S, the dustbins in V8S and A6 are easier to pour out trash without need to remove HEPA filter. The V8S dustbin is also better than the A6 dustbin, in my opinion, because it opens top down rather than bottom up which can cause some dirt to leak on the carpet if not careful. After owning V8S, I would NEVER go back to a dustbin like V5s Pro that requires lifting the dustbin upwards from the center of the machine and then opening the dustbin bin/removing the filter to pour our dust (too much work!) I also like the wheels on the V8S better than the wheels on the V5S Pro, because the RoadRover wheels on the V8s is flatter and handles uneven floors better. The weight of the heavier V8s machine also help the suction on even surfaces. The V8S wheel works better on 5/8 inch tile grout line than V5S Pro. The wheels on the iRobot Braava 380t is NOT good for tile with big grout lines. So if you have uneven floors, V8S works best. iRobot Braava 380t is TOO LIGHT and NOT heavy duty enough for uneven ceramics floors with wide grout line. I have been reading about a lot of complaints on all mopping robots NOT removing hard-to-remove stains. Try my approach for more heavy scrubbing effect if you are a sewer: Buy some brown or green color 3M scouring pad (those you use to wash dishes), and sew a long strip on the mopping pad. The scouring pad will scrub your tile floors. Update 6/28/18: The robot no longer gets trapped with three enclosed sides now. I think I figured what is causing that. I have chandeliers and I see a rainbow light on the floor at nighttime. So it gets trapped only when I run it in the evening when it gets darker. This is not a problem when I run the robot in full daylight. So it is the light from either outside or from my chandelier that's creating the trapping problem (kind of like older version of iRobot will not pass a black line on the carpet because of the stair sensor). Update 8/17/18: So far, I'm very happy with this iLife V8s and have not had any regrets buying it yet. Power suction is super strong, and maintenance is LOW. Update 9/9/18: I and my two daughters have long hair. We get hair in the bathroom tiles every day. Plus: The two side brushes in the iLife V8s are removable: pull out and snap back on; so easy to remove hair when tangled around side brushes. It is is a better design than the two side brushes on the iLife A6, because iLife A6 side brushes have screws. The ILife V8s is better for hair, dust & tiles. My only minor complaint: on auto mode, it sweeps the edges a bit too long for a small bathroom before switching over to zigzag. But I probably still prefer the edging 1st over randomness in iLife v5s Pro. I'm using ILife v8s primarily in my kitchen tile floor to vacuum 1st, then I switch over to my iRobot 380t to mop. Again, very happy with LOW maintenance on this iLife V8s machine. Extremely happy with the big dustbin, and low maintenance side brush. I'm changing my rating from 4 to 5 today. Update: 2/22/19: My iLife V8s is stll running strong and powerful. I love it a lot. LOW MAINTENANCE, I love the removable side brush, I love the BIG bin, and bin located on the side. I like how the wheels are low enough that it does NOT climb over my self-made rug that acts like a virtual wall. On my other robots, I also love the LOW MAINTENANCE of my iLife V6 that I use for carpet only (I only wish that one has a bigger and removable side brush like the V8s for tiles). Update 6/23/19: Original battery is still running strong. I like it being LOW maintenance. Large dustbin is definitely a plus and adds to the low maintenance. It runs and does not get trap. However, pattern is not as smart, because it has same pattern for both big and small rooms, which is not as ideal. But that doesn't bother me as long as it runs and covers all the surface area. I'm still liking this machine very much. No roller brush for my tile floor is we what want for low maintenance. Update: 1/26/2020: I bough two of these V8s from the same seller, and I have own is for over 1 1/2 years now. Battery is still very strong and both robots still function as good as new. One of the two robot did have an error code E27, but I went to youtube and there is a video on how to unscrew the bottom and clean the inside sensors with a cloth. After I followed the step in the youtube video to screw/clean and then reassemble, I no longer get the E27 error code, and again both machines performed like new. I don't see any deterioration on the machine yet even after owning it for 1 1/2 year. I still have the original side brush and filter on it, even though I did order some extra ones on Ebay a year ago to keep as backups. To-date, I don't need to change out the side brush and filter yet (still original ones). Battery is still running very strong and has no signs of wear/tear to-date. LOW MAINTENANCE machine, I like it a lot. I don't use the remote control any more, because I just use my toe to push the start button and let it run by itself, then go back to charging station. ... show more

  • I really love this vacuum and so far am super impressed I ...
The only reason I am writing this review is because I read alot of reviews when I purchase something so I thought I'd return the favor. I really love this vacuum and so far am super impressed I will say I have only had it for two days which is not long at all but maybe I will update six months in. Pros : very efficent and I like the mapping options , it mops ( not without assistance) suction is great, it runs forever. Cons : the mopping feature is ok , I would sugest pre-spraying the floor if you have alot of stuck on grim. Its not going ro compare to a human mopping but it is still really nice to not have to worry about mopping everyday. One of the times the vacuum said it wanted to go home and went under my table and just stopped idk it was weird because the next time it went home .I vacuum frequently and I was amazed at the amount of debri it picked up in a couple of hours .we have tried many robot vacuums and though their were things I like about them all none of them had everything I wanted but this one does . Overall this is a really great product and I am thrilled . ... show more

  • Started out great, but have more and more issues after.
The vacuum was on regular usage but started to constantly having errors and shuts itself off constantly. The sensor had to be cleaned constantly or the sensor error code will pop up every 5 minutes. The vacuum also seems to have pathing issues. On occasion huge sections will be skipped completely when actually inspected. The vacuum also often fails to make it back to home base even with no error occurring. ... show more

  • Received a clean freak's approval
Bought this as a wedding gift for a friend's daughter in China (carried it there with battery removed; this model not sold in China). My friend is a clean freak, sweeping her tile floors several times a day, mopping every couple of days (it is very dusty there). I tried it out in her apartment just to make sure it worked with the battery replaced, thinking that I'd get a "that's nice", with an eye-roll (as in "I can do better than any machine"). Much to my surprise, it met with her approval and she thought it was fantastic. You can walk barefoot on her floors, and not feel anything, yet this vacuum would still have a quarter full bin. She was especially pleased how well it cleaned sliding door tracks, remarking that those were so difficult to clean herself. Even with several rooms, it found its way back to the charging station. Will note that I didn't try out the mopping function, but the vacuum worked fantastic. Long story short: buying another one for her own use. **UPDATE** While tested before being given, soon after, after taken to China, vacuum malfunctioned. Would not move forward. Talked with US rep to debug. However, the solutions they provided did not work. Seems a sensor has malfunctioned, so it thinks it is about to fall off a ledge. It's "sister" works fine on the SAME floor. Unfortunately, though it is made in China, customer support is non-existent there. Bought 3 - 2 working fine, 1 broken. ... show more

  • Stay away from this brand
Was very happy to buy this for my mom. I started using it last week and it stops working after 15 minutes on a full charge. Amazon won’t give my money back.
