Great heater for larger aquariums

I needed a new heater for my 75 gallon freshwater aquarium and since I have used Hygger products in the past I thought I'd give it a try. It works great! It heated quickly and holds the temp that I selected very closely. The setup is quick and easy. Just place it in the tank, plug it in and set the desired temp. The display shows water temp and the preset temp and I monitor the accuracy with a separate thermometer. It normally stays within 1 degree of the preset and that may only be because this heater measures at 10ths of a degree and my thermometer measure whole numbers. Mounts securely and the flat design hugs the wall nicely and stays out of the way for a relatively large heater.

Hygger Support

I have several aquariums in my home , large and small , housing tropical fish and or small species turtles . Hygger has been my go to company for temperature and or humidity control (small tortoise environment.) That said. I purchased this product on 3/8/2023. It failed in December of 2023. I contacted Hygger through Amazon on 12/28/2023. They got right back to me requesting an easy to submit means of determining that the unit had failed. I didn’t therefore even have to send the unit back. On 1/1/2024 I was e-mailed by Hygger that a replacement unit would be delivered in a matter of a few days. Amazon delivered the replacement unit on 1/6/2024. Hygger—This company has, without doubt , the best support I have ever seen.

Unstable temps

Unsure of reasons these heaters specifically would temp spike 20+ degrees over the temperature set. I had a heater hooked up in a pea puffer tank for about a year and everything was well. I went to check on tank and all my fish were dead! During that time I ordered two larger heaters so all 3 tanks would be covered and not but a few months after the install of the larger heater purchased that tank with shrimp all died. I couldnt figure out the issue but it became clear that after setting my tank temp to 75* it would go on like normal but then spike to over 90* and stay there. With the dead fish and shrimp being the result of the faulty hygger heaters. Reached out to Hygger and within 2 year warranty all they will refund is 2/3 heaters. Please take caution if you choose these heaters as they have costed me more than money at this point. 2 outta 3 tanks are thriving while 3rd will need complete rework. No Hygger heaters in my tanks.

THE BEST HEATER FOR THE MONEY

I have had eheim and fluval heaters and let me tell you, they do not hold a candle to this one especially considering the price. The eheim was always so annoying as the temperature you set would never match the tank temp even after countless attempts at calibration. Also, the suction cups used on them are very very weak and begin to be less effective over time. In addition to this due to the design everytime you want to adjust the temp you must stick your hands in the tank and manually move the dial (and given the fact that I could never get the dial temp to match the actual tank temp it would produce, this was such a hassle)! I only wish I would have discovered these amazing heaters sooner. Stick it in, and then you have an external control unit that you set the temperature with with the touch of a button. Truly a beautiful thing. I purchased 2 of the 300W units for my new 75 gallon build (I know I could have purchased a higher wattage but I prefer 2 individual units in the event one fails there is still a backup and if it fails in the sense that one misreads temp and overheats, it is not powerful enough to overheat the tank). I have both of them mounted behind my 3d background next to each intake of my canister filters in opposite corners and it is performing FLAWLESSLY thus far. Much like every other Hygger aquarium product, this is of the upmost quality and I am such a huge fan.

Not Durable: Update

I purchased the next larger unit to service a 20G tank (less than a year ago). When it works, its a charm but it lasted only about 6 months then just stopped. Too bad. Good components in the "temperature" feedback loop but it's non-modular design makes it non-robust. When something gives in the loop, you have to throw away the whole bath water. So a poor review for a poor design. I picked up the tried and true "pencil" heater for my little 20G tank. Updated: Okay, my heater died on me but the customer service was/is excellent and rapidly sent me a replacement. Pretty cool eh! These units, when the run, are like rocks so I'm back in business. So in fairness I changes my rating. Not quite 5 since the unit mysteriously dies but well worth a try for large tanks.
