  • Excellent Quality and Powerful Performance
Style: Single Speed Pump Size: 14 Inch (Up To 10500 Gal)
I’m very impressed with the Swimline sand filter pump. The quality feels excellent, and the unit is sturdy, stable, and well-made. It does a great job keeping my 8,000-gallon Intex 22x12 pool clean. I usually run it every 2 to 3 hours, and it makes a noticeable difference in the water clarity. The pump works efficiently and gives me confidence that my pool is being properly filtered. Overall, this has been a great purchase. It is reliable, easy to use, and performs exactly as needed. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Has been great so far! Has been great so far!
Style: Single Speed Pump Size: 12 Inch (Up To 8000 Gal)
We have a square best way 10 foot by 6 foot 3 foot deep pool. We had some pretty crappy weather here in Pennsylvania in the month of June. The pool was covered a lot with a tarp because we had a lot of 70s temperatures with a lot of rain. When we went to take the cover off of the pool, the one day, the water smelled, was aqua colored, and mosquito larva had infested it swimming all around. It was gross and the pool was unswimmable. We went that day and got pool chemicals and doused the water and bugs. Chlorine, shock, and algicide. We had an upgraded larger paper filter, filter on our pool. (Also bought from Amazon) After days of having it running and putting the chemicals in the pool it still was not clean or clear. It turned more bluish, but you could not see through it all and it still smelled like a pond. We then went and got clarifier. We ended up putting clarifier in the pool two different times because the pool still was not clear and looked milky and foggy. We thought we were going to end up having to drain the pool after a few weeks of not being able to get it back to normal. We kept adding chlorine every couple of days to try to correct the smelly aqua tinted water. Although all the bugs eventually did die and disappear. My daughter was upset because I wouldn't let her swim in it. Lol We needed a solution. I started searching online for a solution and read that we may need a stronger, pool filter or a sand filter, and that the water may not be getting enough filtration or circulation. I came onto Amazon and bought this sand filter. It took my husband a couple of hours to get it hooked up properly and put together. We let it run all night and checked the pool the very next morning and it was already 1000 times better. The next day after that the pool was blue and clear again!! Finally swimable!! had went through so many headaches within about three weeks to try to get our pool back to normal and apparently all we had to do was buy a small sand filter. It has been working perfect, and has a great amount of power for our pool. If something ends up happening with it, I will update my review but so far it has been great for us!! Picture attached is after leaving it run just for one night! Last photo is what we originally had on our pool. ... show more

  • Amazing filter great purchase, just a few things you may want to know...
Style: Single Speed Pump Size: 14 Inch (Up To 10500 Gal)
Does this product really work!?!? Yes, it does! And VERY well. To start it's powerful! The suc5ion is wonderful and it cleans my 12x20ft oblong above ground Coleman pool in about 2-3 hours giver or take how much cleaning needs to be done. This is even with the skimmer basket attached. Another big plus is that it comes with all the needed hoses clamps and tools necessary. Instruction aren't super clear but assembly is straight forward. However here what I think you should know. 1. there does happen to be a leak that occurs when connecting the hose to the "pool" opening as noted on the pump lever. It's a drip but a leak nonetheless. 2. The sand comes separately 3. Make sure you have the pump/filter placed EXACTLY where you wanted before filling with the pool filter sand. 4. I recommend using a cup to scoop sand slowly. Pouring the sand will cause alignment issues. (You'll know what I mean when you read the instructions.) But overall besides those miniscule hassles definitely worth it. Although I'm NOT looking forward to putting this thing away for the winter. It's HEAVY. Again miniscule and still worth the buy ... show more

  • Bad leak. Not really compatible w/ Bestway, NO TIMER, NO GFI. UPDATE: PUMP LEAKS!
Style: Single Speed Pump Size: 12 Inch (Up To 8000 Gal)
UPDATE 1: It's been about one whole hour of run time, and the pump housing is leaking. There are drips forming where two pieces of factory seamed plastic meet. Guess I have to get a replacement. What a waste of time. Update 2: the leak is even worse now. See video. A drip per second, even with the pump off. No word from the seller. ORIGINAL: I just finished the installation of this sand filter. I'm a pretty competent guy with plumbing and electrical (heck, I built a 16kw grid tie solar array from the ground up by myself over the course of a few weeks)....but this was a kinda poor install experience and had me just shaking my head at the dumb design decisions they made and their advertising. For starters, I ordered this because it was advertised and strongly hinted that it was plug and play compatible with Bestway pools. It's not. For that you need to buy extra parts, which I didn't know until AFTER I finished the install and came inside to write this review. So if you have a Bestway pool, go get the adapters you need. It would have made installation MUCH easier. Secondly, the threaded pipe adapters to which you add the included flexible tubing is not nearly long enough for the tubing supplied. The tubing has a raised ring/lip around the outside, which sits about 1/4" from the edge. Presumably this is to accept a rubber o-ring....but those aren't supplied. The adapter to which you affix this tube to is only about 3/4" long. Seems fine, but you can't use the hose clamps anywhere on top of that raised lip on the tube because it leaks, so your hose clamps are literally sitting partially over the tiny bit of adapter that remains and partially over empty parts of the piping. They're also a little too large, so you have to tighten them quite a bit to stop the leaks...It seems very flimsy, and took quite some time to get it to stop leaking. I would recommend carefully cutting off that raised lip so you can snug the tubing fully onto the adapters and affix the hose clamps properly. There are also not enough hose clamps provided...I needed to go find several more to attach everything. You need to wrap the threads with teflon tape at least 15-20 times before it'll make a good seal. The threads are just far too loose and wobbly. Also, they include large o-rings (which aren't mentioned anywhere in the instructions)...put these overtop of the male threads for the adapters and squish em down a bit when you thread them onto the filter. There is NO TIMER! There is no built in GFI protection! The barebones pump my pool came with had both of these features, plus a very long cord. This cord is pretty short, so you're going to need an additional cord, timer, and GFI protection. If you aren't concerned with keeping your old pool pump, you could get a female extension cord kit, cut the cord from the old pump and wire it up as an extension cord for this pump. That would give you the protection and length is should have included. Suction seems great, however, and is working quite well with the skimmer I installed. I expect this will be significantly better than the Bestway filtration system. However, in hindsight I would have searched around for a sand filter setup that was actually compatible with my Bestway pool instead of one that just pretends they are. ... show more

  • Doing a Phenomenal Job
Style: Single Speed Pump Size: 12 Inch (Up To 8000 Gal)
I can get a little winded in my reviews, but if you can bear with me, you might read a useful thing or two. To start with, I've been using this filter pump about 6 weeks. I'm using it on a 15'x42" above ground pool from the time both were removed from the box. Assembly was...mostly...straightforward. The instructions aren't exactly bad, but I really didn't find them sufficient for my own needs. I ended up going to YouTube and found a guy who walked through this exact same model's setup and I found that immensely more helpful. Most things needed are included in the boxes except a few tools and some o ring lubricant. Why wasn't a small bit of the lubricant included with everything else? You got me. But I did need to buy some and had read on Google that it's not a great idea to use alternatives (Vaseline or coconut oil or whatever else). The screws mounting the motor to the base were an unbelievable pain, but I ended up managing. Sand for this product is also not included, but it can be purchased from a pool supply, hardware store, or even here on Amazon (where I obtained mine). Adding the sand and getting the lid part of the unit nice and flush isn't quite the one and done process the instructions suggested. I got the tube nice and centered and still couldn't get the lid level after filling it with sand, thus requiring me to hand empty the entire thing and start over multiple times. I finally found that adding a bit of sand, trying the lid carefully, adding some more, trying again, etc was the only way I was finally able to have the lid sit flush at the right angle enough to get the ring clamped on. Another issue I ran into was that even though the pool hoses I had were the same size as the pump's, the pool hoses were a baby bit not as snug as the ones included with the pump. So no amount of tightening on the clamp rings stopped leaking and I had to stop, replace all the hoses, and reattach. I still have a tiny bit of dribble no matter what was done trying to fix it, but it's not enough to stress over with regular water loss. I do feel it's worth mentioning that I live in Texas and this unit is in non stop sun most every day. It's run like a champ anyway. The operation of the unit had seemed a little daunting, but as long as you remember to unplug everything before switching functions, it's super simple. I would suggest buying one of these on a damaged box type of deal if you're able. I was able to save a decent bit this way and everything I received was in brand new, not damaged condition when it got to me. As far as function, I can tell a night and day difference when I'm using the filter enough and when I'm not. I use no cover at all on my pool (including during Hurricane Beryl that I was in some of the worst wind of) and other than vacuuming the big stuff off the bottom every couple of days, the pump does all the rest. It's much stronger than the included pump that comes with the pool, and a lot less to worry about since it doesn't use those paper filters. (I used this type in the past and it's a lot more maintenance.) I think I've covered everything of note except to say that.... Yes, I'm happy with this purchase Yes, I would purchase this product again Yes, I absolutely would recommend this product ... show more

  • Great replacement for a 10ft dia pool
Style: Single Speed Pump Size: 12 Inch (Up To 8000 Gal)
I bought this sand filter and pump combo a couple of years ago for my little 1100 gal pool. It did a FANTASTIC job keeping the pool clean compared with the glorified fish tank pump that came with the pool. In my case, I was not able to remove the old pump from the bottom of the skimmer, so I instead pulled the impeller out of the pump and installed this between the old pump and the pool return. It works perfectly for my purpose but it would probably move even more water without the old pump in between. Anyway, this set up is great. Note to anyone that needs it: I did not bring it in for the winter and that was a mistake. The pump didn’t work when I tried it again early this summer. But with the help of some YouTube videos, I learned that if you pop the back cover off the pump, you can turn the impeller, breaking it free to spin again. It worked for me and it has been going all summer once again (knock on wood). ... show more

  • TERRIBLE installation instructions & hose design, but very quiet and works great once installed
Style: Single Speed Pump Size: 19 Inch (Up To 19000 Gal)
I give the .9 hp pump 3 stars for the following reasons: PROS The pump is very quiet once installed. Flow is really nice, and it appears to be working great, lots of flow, much better than my old 1 hp pump. Almost whisper quiet. (I use Zeosand, and the water is so beautiful.) So this puts it at a 5-star starting point for me, but I have to dock points for the CONS, below. CONS 1. Many of the components feel very cheap, with brittle plastic that will soon break in the sun. I give it a year before the plastic breaks. I actually cracked a piece while tightening a connection. (Hand-tightened.) 2. Installation instructions are TERRIBLE! So, read through, carefully, and take your time, think it through before acting. Examples: The instructions literally tell you to attach the container to the base and fill the sand/water first, only to have you, as the very last step, attach the pump to the base. The problem? The pump gets attached from the bottom, so how in the world are you supposed to lift the base with 100 lbs of sand in the container? Luckily I read through the instructions and did the steps in a better order. And, really, they should tell people to put a little grease on the o-rings to help seal (and supply the grease, like they supplied the teflon). They should also tell people which parts to use teflon on and which NOT. (If you put the teflon on the wrong threads, it will actually increase the leaks, which I think is what people are experiencing when they are talking about bad leaks.) Pictures don't show all the parts or steps properly. 3. Hose design is terrible. The white hose going between the pump and sand container has the seat for the o-rings on the hose, not the receiving side, so you have to work really hard to keep the o-rings stable while maneuvering the hose onto the connection. Basically you need 3 hands! The o-ring seat should be on the stable components! 4. Base design doesn't let you reach the screws properly to tighten down the pump. This shows poor engineering. This thing isn't rocket science and shouldn't require a professional to install, just good instructions....but these are missing. Anyway, if you've read this far, here are my tips: 1. Attach the pump to the base first, then attach and fill the sand container. 2. When connecting the white hose between the pump and container, attach it to the pump first, then the container. It's easier to maneuver that way. 3. Put some grease on your o-rings. 4. Don't use teflon on the white hose connectors. Teflon on those threads will prevent the o-rings from sealing. (To clarify what I mean, look at the white hose connectors and think the teflon question through. If it will prevent you from threading all the way, the o-ring will be lose and will leak. The o-rings need to squish down and seal.) 5. DO use lots of teflon on your black hose connectors, more than you normally would on indoor plumbing. I used 5 layers and have no leaks on the first try. 6. When attaching the top to the sand container, alternate back and forth between the two screws to avoid cracking your clamp. Good luck! Hopefully I remember to update this after a year of use. I'll try. ... show more
