Overall Impression: I got the 10" Classic Series Sub, and I couldn't be happier with it. It completes my 5.1 system powered by a Yamaha RX-V481 AVR, paired with Polk T15s (soon to be replaced) and a Klipsch Icon Series KC-25 center. It adds low end to my bookshelves and does so beautifully without being overpowering in any way. Gain Levels Breakdown: 40% Gain: A laid-back, relaxed listening experience. 50% Gain: The sweet spot to start feeling the sub-bass frequencies without being too pronounced. Movies with Dolby surround really shine here. 65% Gain: The spot to experience its lowest frequencies. Here it becomes authoritative over the other speakers—impactful, punchy, and wall-shaking, all in a good way. Performance & Sound Quality: I wouldn't dial anything above 85% because that makes it a tad bit boomy, but props to Dayton since no muddy distortion is introduced even at the highest setting. I have the sub crossover set at 80Hz and usually keep it around 50% gain. In my small room (3m x 3m / 10ft x 10ft), anything above 50% is a tad bit too loud for an apartment with neighbors around, above, and below me. At 50%, movies are punchy and very enjoyable; you can feel thumping explosions and roaring thunder through your body and almost think it's happening around you. For music at 50% gain, high-quality tracks sound fast, tight, and articulate with great transient response—you can definitely hear note-to-note distinction and texture between different frequencies. While it isn't quite as slamming for music at 50% as it is for movies, bumping it to 65% brings that extra kick. Minor Issue: The only bummer is that the Auto-On feature requires a bit of high volume to kick on. Because of this, the sub sometimes turns itself off when you're listening or watching at low volume. You’ll be in the middle of a scene or track and suddenly realize there's no low end—and sure enough, you check behind the sub and my lord, the light is red, meaning it went into standby. Once triggered with a bit more volume, though, it performs flawlessly. Warranty Note: I used an international shipping agent to forward it overseas to Kenya, Africa, so I can't comment on Dayton's 5-year warranty, but it arrived safely and has been working flawlessly. Verdict: Overall, this sub is worth every dollar and performs exceptionally for its price. It has a high build quality and finish, with a substantial weight to it.     • SOLID cheap 12” sub!

Quick Edit: not a big deal but I wish the auto on db level was adjustable, I found I really have to be pumping it to get it to trigger on. Thought I’d leave a review as I have seen fairly little on the review front when I was making my decision. Great 12” sub! More than fills my living room and connected kitchen. Right out of the box it was quite boomy but after going through a proper placement, tuning and delay routine it cleaned up very nicely. I almost feel as if the crossover is naturally lower than what’s stated on the knob as 80hz on the sub was far lower than 80hz on my amps crossover. I just opted for the amps crossover instead. Nothing major just something I noticed. I use it for about 70% music and 30% movie/show. I was surprised how much it can fill the room at this price point during movie watching. Don’t get me wrong it’s not “hit you in the chest” sub level but it can patch a punch during scenes with impact sounds. This sub gets far down in the frequency range, not as far as some $$$ subs but for the money this is definitely impressive and farther than I was expecting. I can’t give you exact hz levels but I would say it’s deeper than most at this price range. I have never heard the original Sub-1200 by Dayton but a lot of people say they are fairly similar. The big difference being the higher power which obviously adds quite a bit. If you are looking for a new cheaper sub that performs on that mid tier level I would recommend. It won’t blow you to kingdom come but it is definitely a solid (if not the best) choice in this price range. As this sub gives more expensive subs a run for their money, I could imagine Dayton upping the price as the word gets out. ... show more

dayton audio cs1000 10" sub: just got this today sep 2026 and listened about 45 minutes. Easy hookup, and this plays too deeply for bass but adjustability is excellent. This already is having me listening at lower overall volumes now that missing bass is present. This is hooked up to a pair of LaScala with Mcintosh amp and i do believe this 10" can shake the house, let alone the 25x60 room. This unit is excellently designed and manufactured. I does thump on turn-on at the back of the box. I believe this would not be the choice for a night club, but for normal listening its nice. On one note i noticed a slight boominess, but its not the subs fault, i adjusted positioning and settings and it played without no boominess on the exact passage and volume.     • My one week review of this 8" beast.
This is one solid sub! No inflated specs here. The cabinet is rock solid and looks nice too. I only have the volume about a third of the way up and you can tell your getting what you paid for, as this is rated at 150 watts. My room is about 12 x 20 feet with two doorway openings and one of the openings is quite large (double size). I'm stated this so you may compare your air space to what I'm experiencing before purchase. This little 8" sub does a very nice job of pounding out some bass. So much so that I had to reinforce my TV cabinet (more screws for the back thinner panel) from rattling and put sticky felt pieces behind my pictures and clock in the room. I used the LFE input for a few days then switched over to the L/R inputs in order to use the crossover. Both inputs sound and work just fine. No difference unless you have no way to adjust a crossover before the signal hits the LFE input. Be sure to order the correct cable for your needs and your amp/receiver specs or capabilities. I did not use the speaker inputs as my receiver has a sub out. The subwoofer produces clean and tight bass while providing bass pressure in the air. Subwoofer placement is critical and you may need to find the right spot in your room. Placing the sub facing the same direction as your main speakers is usually best but if not, don't forget to change the phase to 180, if needed. Hands down the best BANG for your buck. I personally never used Dayton before but have heard of them. So glad I gave this sub a shot. This sub blows my previous two subs out of the water and one of them was a 12". Oh and they offer a 5 year warranty. Who does that? Apparently Dayton does. The order came from Parts Express instead of Amazon. To my surprised it was delivered the day after ordered even though I think the original time frame was about a week. So that was pretty cool and unexpected. Anyway, I would highly recommend this sub. This thing sounds awesome. I was looking for a bare bones, no frills subwoofer, simply wanting the deeper base a larger cone provides in tone. LOVE the amount of connectivity options. I haven't tested to see if it separates bass from the high level left and right (I assume it would). But the LFE and the dedicated Left and Right RCA inputs work great. I went LFE in this case. The price is about spot on for what I would expect from this level of subwoofer, however being a 12" model is a huge point in it's favor. It has the ability to adjust the hertz level at which the sub kicks in or not, which is nice. most typically you'll need 90 to 75 hertz, 80 being standard. This thing is ENORMOUS however, I had to move my setup around to make it work, but I am super happy with it. ... show more

These are built well and have good punch for the LFE needs of movie 5.1 soundtracks. They're not as good for things like EDM or even regular music as they can get "boomy" when presented with complex and sustained low-octave signals. They tend to "run out of room" in those situations and go resonant. They'll provide good kicks and some support in the bottom octaves, but you'll need to manage the gain with music vs. how you'd set the sub up for a movie soundtrack. ... show more

Dayton audio makes the finest low to mid cost products of anybody today. I've owned many of their subs and they produce the Lower octives with clarity easily. Built from quality parts they will outperform subs costing three times the money. From the 8-inch model to the 12-inch model you get deep bass that is not muddy. Tight deep bass. Great warranty and customer service. This is a throwback to the companies of the 1960s. Dayton is second to none in customer satisfaction. A product that looks nice and puts out sound to match. The 12-inch is a monster. I wish they had been around when I was in college. Combined with the Dayton Classic series you can put together a sound that matches $5 thousand dollar systems out there. Combine this 12-inch sub with those $79 dollar Classic wood series and you will own the best sound for the dollar. You just can't go wrong with Dayton or Parts Express. ... show more
