  • My one week review of this 8" beast.
This is one solid sub! No inflated specs here. The cabinet is rock solid and looks nice too. I only have the volume about a third of the way up and you can tell your getting what you paid for, as this is rated at 150 watts. My room is about 12 x 20 feet with two doorway openings and one of the openings is quite large (double size). I'm stated this so you may compare your air space to what I'm experiencing before purchase. This little 8" sub does a very nice job of pounding out some bass. So much so that I had to reinforce my TV cabinet (more screws for the back thinner panel) from rattling and put sticky felt pieces behind my pictures and clock in the room. I used the LFE input for a few days then switched over to the L/R inputs in order to use the crossover. Both inputs sound and work just fine. No difference unless you have no way to adjust a crossover before the signal hits the LFE input. Be sure to order the correct cable for your needs and your amp/receiver specs or capabilities. I did not use the speaker inputs as my receiver has a sub out. The subwoofer produces clean and tight bass while providing bass pressure in the air. Subwoofer placement is critical and you may need to find the right spot in your room. Placing the sub facing the same direction as your main speakers is usually best but if not, don't forget to change the phase to 180, if needed. Hands down the best BANG for your buck. I personally never used Dayton before but have heard of them. So glad I gave this sub a shot. This sub blows my previous two subs out of the water and one of them was a 12". Oh and they offer a 5 year warranty. Who does that? Apparently Dayton does. The order came from Parts Express instead of Amazon. To my surprised it was delivered the day after ordered even though I think the original time frame was about a week. So that was pretty cool and unexpected. Anyway, I would highly recommend this sub. Specially at this price! ... show more

  • Excellent bass for small to medium systems needing those lowest frequencies enhanced
Exactly what I wanted. This is a perfect subwoofer for sub bass reinforcement in a small to medium sized system. It has all the needed functions for gain and crossover point, plus auto start and shut off with the main system is fired up. The bass is tight, clear and does exactly what I wanted. It was a gift for a disabled man who adores his 53 year old system but wanted a deeper bass response and boy did this do the trick. This is not for moving furniture or rattling glass, though it does put out a substantial amount of usable musical bass and will enhance your system whether 2 channel or surround system. No hum or noise at all. You won't know it's there until the music starts. An amazing value at this price point. Dayton has never let me down with their solid quality and affordability. Just a tip, be sure to learn about proper sub placement as it can vary wildly within the same room. ... show more

  • Good little sub for a good price Good little sub for a good price
Listen, is this 8” powered sub going to shatter any windows? No. But is it a great little speaker at an even better price? Yep ✅. I had some very specific space constraints, under a coffee table, see pic, and this guy fits perfectly. There were some positive reviews so figured I’d give it a shot. I have it hooked up with 2:1 RCA cable to an ~15 year old Yamaha receiver and it adds what my sound system has been missing, some low end. It sounds clear, I love the auto on feature, and I’m happy with my purchase. I was also delivered in 2 days. For $150 you get a great little sub that hits some lows for a cheap price. It feels and looks well made. ... show more

  • Good subwoofer - and an excellent value purchase
These are a fantastic value for the price point, very heavy and sturdily built. Packaging is adequate and professional. I bought two. They seem a little boom-y though I haven't yet ran them through my receiver's calibration procedure. The only issue I see with these, is the cloth used for the grill seems very flimsy - compared to typical subwoofer grill material. Solid 4 stars overall. ... show more

  • Best BOOM for your buck
This little subwoofer packs a big punch. I was on the quest for a small subwoofer that would cover as large of a chunk of the lower bass notes as possible, while also fit my unique spatial requirements. I was also looking at the Audioengine s8 and the Yamaha HS8S as these 8" subwoofers extend below 30Hz, with the s8 extending to 27Hz and the Yamaha extending to 22Hz. Those 2 were a little out of my current budget but I greatly needed something to add to my Alesis Elevate 5 and Elevate 3 studio monitor front stage to add the missing sub 60Hz frequencies. This subwoofer is being utilized on a design workstation for the editing of music videos and mixing for future animation animation projects. Even though these subs don't play as low as I would like (I really need a 15" driver for this, but don't have the space). I have zero complaints. My workstation is now flat down to near 35hz (this was checked with pink noise and the Dayton Audio IMM6 with a spectrum analyzer app). Research showed they weren't as 'clean" as the 2 other models I was looking at, but this thing sounds insanely accurate. Punchy when needed, boomy when needed. Movies have the full bottom end to bring their audio to life. Only a handful of songs is the lack of sub-30Hz noticeable (most mix and master cuts off frequencies below 30Hz aside from some hip-hop, R&B, and EDM) Overall, the best "BOOM" for yoru buck in an 8" sub. Edit: 2 months in only issue had is having to tighten all the screws up on the woofer and amp as they began vibrating lose. I'd thought maybe I had hurt the driver. After a half turn or so on each of the screws everything was tight and right and back sounding nice. ... show more

  • Deep, musical, high-value subwoofer Deep, musical, high-value subwoofer
Color: Wood Size: 12in
I am very happy with this sub. It sounds musical, with very deep tones down to 25hz, without any kind of unwanted boomy sound. It was very easy to configure; I'm currently using about an 80hz crossover. On power, the volume goes up much higher than I need. Functionally, the volume adjustment, crossover, and phase inversion are exactly what I needed. If the natural wood look is your preference over black, this one is a great choice as well. If I have any complaint on the look, the speaker does press out slightly on the fabric cover on the left of the unit, which doesn't bother me but can give the fabric a slightly dirty look. Keep in mind this physical depth of this unit is significant. I did purchase some vibration absorbing feet, a long shielded 1/8" to RCA cable, and a longer power cable to complete the setup for my particular configuration. Overall, I am highly stoked on the value for money this sub represents. I definitely feel like I made the right choice for my home office setup. ... show more

  • Hands down awesome.
Dayton is my new favorite brand! Made in the USA and with honest integrity in everything they sell. Is this Sub a "budget" option? Sure, but it outperforms anything else in its class. The sound is absolutely clear, zero distortion, and easy to adjust to exactly what you need. The style fits right in with my other equipment (the silver and wooden one is so cool too, I have both). It has the "power" to get louder than anyone ever needs in their house and with both high level and line level input, it can work with absolutely any setup! Like I said, I got 2 right off the bat and haven't regretted a single cent of that purchase. My little bedroom Dayton sounds like a multi-thousand dollar hifi system, and my 90s Marantz has never sounded better playing vinyls, CDs, and tapes. ... show more

  • Dayton CS 1200 Great subwoofer.
Color: Wood Size: 12in
I bought this as a second sub. My main sub is an SVS sb1000 pro. They blend together beautifully. I wasn't expecting such a great sounding sub for $239. It sounds good, looks good and seems well built. I listen mostly to Jazz music. It is a tight musical sounding sub. At $239 it's a no brainer. I recommend it. At $239, get two. Double your pleasure, double your fun. ... show more
